A lovely place with lots of potential and beautiful teas, but unfortunately I think Mary is eating cake and that's why service took soooo long. We went last Saturday morning, wanting a cup of tea and piece of cake each. This is the place for that as they do not have coffee, but instead have a range of beautiful teas served in a pot with a complimentary second pour, and a variety of slices/cakes and scones. Not the cheapest tea you've had, but certainly lovely quality and worth the price. We ordered Brunswick Breakfast and one of the green teas and also ordered the scones and chocolate zucchini muffin (gf). Firstly it took quite a while (40 mins) for them to come and serve us even though they guided us where to sit (there was only one other table of patrons on our arrival) and then it took at least 30 mins to actually receive our order. We thought perhaps the scones were being baked and so would be worth the wait...but, no, they weren't even served warm. The waitress was lovely but perhaps very inexperienced as she brought the tea pots of tea, the muffin and plate for the scones but no cutlery, tea cups or the scones. She realised that she didn't have the scones but it took another almost 10 mins to receive the scones (not warmed up, remember!) and then we had to ask for tea cups. Oh my goodness, what an effort! For something that should have been so lovely, relaxing and easy...it was an epic adventure in poor service and mediocre scones. I will give this place another go just in case this particular day was a one-off but the new Mary Eats Cake disappointed me. The venue is clean and fresh with lots of natural light coming in and the choice of teas is excellent. Mary should stop eating cake and focus on doing a really great job here. Perhaps this is why it is regularly empty when I walk past. read more
