The leisure centre has been refurbished , the gym and swimming pool and health suite all have been redone . They have a good selection classes in the timetable , and it is worth paying monthly as can be costly . I love the CXWORX & Body Balance class & i have just tried Body Pump a bit hard but will try again ! LOCAL!! Him Indoors and I went for a wee swim this afternoon and it was VERY pleasant!! I'm glad the pool is open and functional again (there was a period where the pool was closed for maintenance-seemed like it was closed FOREVER!!!) The leisure centre is clean and all the staff is friendly...they never complain when ones asks for floaties when in the pool!! ;-) There are loads of classes offered here too, as well as the pool...I'd recommend getting the unlimited monthly plan if you're gonna be going to classes etc too, it'll be the cheapest way!! And that way you won't have to pay the EXTRA (!!!!) for the steam room and sauna..!! The only reason this is not a full five stars is because the spa hasn't been open the last few times I've been (apparently they're waiting for a part...) and that they close at four at weekends!! read more

Although a little bit difficult to find (it's bang smack in the middle of a housing estate) don't let this put you off. It's actually a really nice swimming pool - with a great traditional feel to it. If you have a Glasgow Leisure card it will cost you next-to-nothing for a swim session, and with leisure centres like this, it's a great alternative to a gym membership. Of course, as with all leisure centres, you're going to have the problem of screaming children getting in the way of your relaxing swim. However, it's open till 9pm, so if you head in later you should be able to avoid them. They also have specific adult only swim times- so be sure to check out details on their website. The girls behind the desk always seem to be friendly and helpful - and will definitely be able to give you directions to get back out once you've made it there! The changing rooms aren't great - they're arranged on a mezzanine floor around the pool (which is a little confusing it has to be said - especially for my boyfriend who's pretty darn blind without his glasses on). Everything is nice and clean, though, and I really enjoyed my swim in the pool. read more

I used to use this Leisure Centre a lot for the pool until it closed a few years ago for roof repairs and they found some pretty serious structural damage which delayed its reopening. I was worried it might never reopen but fortunately I turned out to be wrong and I've finally had the chance to go back. In terms of how the pool itself looks very little has changed and that is a good thing. It still has its stone pillars and lion sculptures. The glass roof lets in lots of lovely natural light. Its lot none of its Victorian charm (the pool originally opened in 1882) and feels like a really special place to swim, I've certainly never been in a pool quite like this one before. It has character that no where else can really compare to. The showers are new, as are the steam room and the sauna. They run some classes and events but most of the time the majority of the pool is available for general swimming. At £3.20 a session for a pool as wonderful as this one it's a shame to not use it. The only thing that prevents me giving a fifth star is that during my most recent visit the pool wasn't the cleanest I've seen it. However, there were signs up saying that the spa pool was closed for cleaning, so perhaps I caught the main pool right before it was cleaned too. It wasn't gross or anything, just in need of a little maintenance which I'm sure must have been planned for very soon. read more

Hidden within a housing estate just off St George's Road, this council run leisure centre is actually pretty damn good and more importantly pretty damn handy. With a real dearth of public pools in the any (where are the closest ones?? Scotstoun?, Govan?) this place gives us wannabe fishes the chance to splash, frolic, pet, dive bomb, run about...oh wait that's all the stuff you ain't allowed to do....booo!!! OK, the beef, its a pretty small pool and for those wishing to get a few proper laps in its a bit bloody annoying to be honest. Not sure if the pool was always a funny shape or if its been since the fairly recent (within the last 10 years) revamp, but its got these weird semi circular lane ends that make it a bit awkward when try to push off, most of the time catapulting you into a old grannies bosom or some guys arse. A moan...yes it is. The pool is used by all different types of groups and demographics at different times of the day, so i would double check on the website or give them a call to make sure you don't turn up trunks in hand to be met with Woodside senior ladies water aerobics club... Also on offer is the use of the steam room and sauna, which you have to pay extra for....explained to me as i was ushered out by a mean attendant. For you land lubbers you can take advantage of a number of dry activities ran by the council with exhausting titles like Body pump, Boot Camp and Leave me alone i don't want to gyrate to the sounds of Abba/trance music while you shout mean things at me, oh OK i suppose i should do something now that my jeans don't fit anymore and i've had to book myself in for a bra fitting at La Senza next week hmmmm...ok so i made up that last one but you get the idea. Oh and you can also use the various gym equipment if you are so inclined, me? i just swim, dry, leave, chippy and home. read more

Sort of hidden away, this is one of the few Glasgow City Council run leisure centres that remotely falls under the 'City centre' bracket. Decent sized pool is the big selling point of this joint, which also has a sauna and steam room. The pool isn't open to all very often so make sure you check ahead. There's also a few womens only slots so chaps, don't be surprised if you're knocked back (from a swimming pool!? I know!). Aqua Zumba in here too, if you dig? Gym area is modest and humble, akin to Kelvinhall in size and appearance. There's a small hall where classes are run, with a small cafe area too. Friendly staff are one of the major pluses for this place, where points are deducted for me with the surrounding area which always makes me feel quite uncomfortable. You basically need to walk into a wee housing estate to get here, which is overlooked by those foreboding tower blocks that hang over you like a creepy uncle at Christmas. Due for a major refurbishment late 2011 for a few months. Wonder if the 20p locker deposit (surely a relic of the 80's or thereabouts) will be replaced by £1 coins? read more

This Glasgow Life gym is only wee, which I love; it's nice to see familiar faces during the week -- at least this way I'm not inflicting my red-faced, sweat-drenched post-workout self on any more humans than necessary. The pool at North Woodside is really lovely, 'fully restored Victorian baths' according to the website, but I have never used it - mostly because I've never quite mastered swimming in a straight line and also, the times I'm there, it's usually heaving with school-aged kids. The gym area - cardio and weights machines - is fairly compact but in the late afternoons (4 / 5pm) it's not usually any trouble to get the machine you want. Occasionally the weights area gets clogged up with guys who more or less just stand around and take up space but normally it's fine. I'm on a 12-month plan and have taken advantage of the monthly consult with a gym specialist to develop a programme. It has given a lot of structure to my gym-ing and is a big help for the exercise illiterate. The closest I ever came to sports as a child was dance class because I loved the outfits, so having someone talk you through 'real exercise' and give you goals makes a big difference. I even use the chest press and do lat pull downs. Boom :p I'm basically Arnold Schwarzenegger, or at least that's how I feel on my first 10 reps....... If you're looking for a nice quiet gym (except for the pool when it's full of children) or a weekly class for cardio or strength building designed for just an average bear, North Woodside is a good fit. Though the occasional olympiad wanders in and beasts it on the treadmill or weights and calls it 'training', for the most part my fellow North Woodsiders are normal people who want to get or stay a normal amount of fit. The staff are always friendly and helpful, the facilities are always clean and in working conditions. No complaints, except for maybe the sore arms and abs .... cheap brag, I know ...;) read more

Nicely renovated swimming pool. The pool is located on walking distance from many hotels in the city center (Holiday Inn, Mariot, Ibis, Novotel, etc,...) When I arrived today at 6pm there were only 4 people in the pool. At 6:30 a aquagym started so only two lanes were left. North Woodside on my approach had me hoping that my bike wouldn't get stolen while I was in. I came here as I was thinking about getting a Glasgow leisure pass, that for your information will give you access to the many leisure centres run by Glasgow city. This happens to be the closest to me so I was hoping that it would be good. The membership cam in at £15 a month for me for the gym, the pool and the classes, with access to all the leisure clubs, I am not sure if this was the regular price or because I am a student it was this price. But anyway, it was great. The swimming pool was pretty big although there were some elderly ladies in there when I went doing some sort of bobbing exercise. Funny but they did take up a good section on the pool. Now, the gym is an ok size, similar to amny other expensive gyms, the only thing was the weights section was pretty disappointng, it just isn't big enough at all. read more

This is a lovely old Victorian (??) public baths, which has been revamped in the last 10ish years. There are no signs pointing its way & for a while at least, the council website gave the wrong postcode! North Woodside Pool is situated in a square surrounded by a housing estate, just off St. Georges Road. There's plenty of parking space for cars, but only 4 spaces for bikes! The pool area in on 2 levels, the changing rooms are on the second level, overlooking the pool. The pool is about 25 yards/metres long, it's warm & is very heavily chlorinated!! The staff are very much council employees, so there is no incentive to make things better. The swimming times are restrictive, so check before you go. It doesn't open until 10am most days and is only open for 6 hours on Saturday & Sunday each! There's a very small jacuzzi by the pool, but it's so heavily chlorinated, it's like jumping into a vat of bleach! Avoid. I don't know how much extra the sauna is, but I wouldn't risk it on hygiene grounds. Most regulars favor flipflops! The changing area, stairs, pool side & communal showers are filthy. In 5 years of going there, I've never seen anyone attempting to clean it. The drains are all blocked with hair & grime is evident everywhere. There is no cleaning or planned preventative maintenance schedule, so it North Woodside Pool, despite it's huge catchment are, will not last another 10 years. It should be a fantastic pool, but poor Glasgow council management, make it one reason why Virgin Active & Greens have been successful. read more

This is a lovely little leisure centre tucked away just a 5 minute walk from Charing Cross. The swimming pool is a restored Victorian bathing house, which is still evident from the style and design. It's a lovely place to swim and feels like you've gone back in time. The whole place has a cosy, community feel to it, and is very different from the some of the larger, anonymous, sterile, blank gyms and fitness suites. Staff are friendly and you really feel it is a place where people come together to meet, not to exercise independently. I tried one of fitness classes and the regulars were more than happy to help me get the correct equipment and to help me settle in. Fantastic, old-fashioned Victorian pool which is immaculately clean and lovely and warm. The water in the pool has a current through it (not an electric one!!) and gives you some resistance when swimming against it. The building also houses a jacuzzi, sauna, fitness suite and offers many different fitness classes, including body pump, aquafit, and body combat. read more
