My long overdue review for Class 3 Driver training and Air brakes at North Shore Driving School. Oh yes... this is super duper exciting I know :) But seriously, if you ever find yourself in need of a Class 3 license with Air this is your place. The trainers are seriously expert drivers with a no nonsense approach to our streets. If you mess up there is no hand holding here, just explain yourself and don't do it again. Straight to the point no BS. Tom and Bubba were great instructors with incredible knowledge of what to do on the road. And as good as we all think we are behind the wheel... we are not! Guaranteed fail rate if anyone (including myself) were thrown in a surprise ICBC road test right now. Sh#t... I would have failed on my first left turn. Yep. Our bad habits are not only dangerous but apparently quite illegal. Whooooops! The air brakes course was not an awesome way to spend a weekend by any stretch of the imagination. I'd rather attend a 2 day lecture on paint by numbers! But, they do a good job of teaching you how the system works. I'm not quite sure of their pass rate here, but I am guessing it is very high. I felt completely over prepared for the ICBC Air Brakes exam (100% ya bit*hes) and only slightly barf nervous for the ICBC Class 3 road test in the torential rain (only 20 demerits, damn left turns!). Oh... and North Shore Driving (trucking division) is located in Burnaby. Go figure! read more

*** WORST CLASS 1 DRIVING SCHOOL I COULD EVER IMAGINE *** *** SHOULD NOT BE IN BUSINESS AT ALL !!! This school took over $12,000 for my Long Haul Class 1 and they can not / will not supply my remaining pre-paid driving hours or a refund !! Since my lesson of October 12/21 and only after threatening to notify both the BBB (Better Business Bureau) and commence legal action for not allowing training of these prepaid hours I've again waited another 7.5 weeks only to receive 2 short lessons THIS IS NOT COMMERCIAL TRUCK TRAINING AT ALL I'm still owed around 60 hours, with them refusing any driving time or refund THIS IS NOT AT ALL WHAT I had PREPAID FOR, OR WAS PROMISED TO RECEIVE AS A STUDENT OF NORTH SHORE DRIVING SCHOOL !! Both instructors hate each other, bickering constantly and unprofessionally creating a lot of anxiety for students The only person that knows anything in that company is the driving instructor Jeremy He's great, but unfortunately you don't get to stay with him Judy the owner answers the phone putting on a good front, but really just doesn't care once you pay It seems to be a regular thing to have upset students, failing their road test or just walking off screaming about the lack of professional quality from their lessons in the parking lot Not only is the management neglectful and unwilling to resolve or accommodate student issues, but they just don't seem to care at all I've gotten emails from North Shore Driving Schools saying they are aware of the major staff concerns, disagreements and arguments but further stating they have no one to replace him with October 12, 2021 I was squished into a road test with very little training I showed up as scheduled, 2 hours prior to my test to do some hands on driving and pre-trip inspection Lorrie, the instructor I've complained numerous times about, refused to let me practice driving insisting that he will drive, ensuing a huge argument between us for 2 hours, just prior to my test This infuriated me, I was so mad and distracted from what I was there to do I failed my test, mainly because I never latched my back trailer door properly during my pre-trip. Then doing a break tug, examiner knew it wasn't latched properly, Dangerous move, automatic fail Because of this, I must now take the FULL MELT COURSE with zero hours credited elsewhere North Shore Driving Schools position is that you failed the driving test and we are not currently offering the MELT Program so there is nothing more we can do for you It's my position, they are the reason I failed in the first place by creating among other thing a hostile training environment. Secondly why can't I still train with my pre-paid driving hours or have them refunded ? A further $12,000 later, I've signing up for MELT at a different, much more organized MELT Driving School I will be starting in the New Year Truth be told they have no qualified instructors to work with them to let the crappy one of two go It's my opinion the trucks are both unsafe and in need of serious repair This is on top of all the other things I've mentioned going on at North Shore Driving Schools From what I understand they were again getting evicted from their parking lot and very close to bankruptcy NEEDLESS TO SAY THEY ARE FOR SALE Good luck with that !! I would NOT recommend this company at all !!! I will be filing with the BBB as well as a court action shortly for both a refund and damages against NORTH SHORE DRIVING SCHOOL LTD read more

I did the air brake course and decided to take my class 1 driving lessons somewhere else. The instructor frequently made violent jokes about killing women and sometimes children. He also refused to wear his mask in the truck when he was showing us the pre-trip inspection. He was an okay teacher but if I had not read the book very thoroughly, his instruction would not have been enough for me to pass the knowledge tests. The receptionist told me I would have to come in to work out a schedule. I did not think it was reasonable that I should have to take a day off of work to do something that could be done over the phone or email. She did not allow me to do either and insisted that I come in instead. Put me on hold too many times just to tell me that. Better to go to Valley or somewhere else. read more

The instructors were fantastic and helpful in everyway! But the logistical side and certain other staff were the complete opposite. Talking down to me, mis-quoting over the phone, 2 hour lessons where you spend an hour getting the truck ready to do a pre-trip (driving to a different location and hooking up before your pre-trip lesson) rather than having the truck ready to go, not taking your schedule into account when setting up times that you paid for. The best driving instructors I've ever been with are being hamstrung by the office staff (one person specifically, will not name names) Sadly both the best and worst driving school experience Ive had. read more

Thank you Sunny, Elena, and Neil! They are all excellent and take that extra step to help drivers around their schedules and needs. Sunny was the main instructor working with me and he is knowledgeable, helpful and approachable. The experience that this school offers is amazing and totally worth recommending for others. I liked how this school focuses on long term habits that make sure their drivers stay good drivers. I really appreciated that they would pick me up and drop me off where I needed to be. read more

I just completed my unrestricted class 1 with north shore and have to say the school was exceptional. They were able to cram 32 hours of driving and schooling into a schedule that worked for me surrounding working full time. It took me one month and one try at the DMV to get this licence. A full month sooner then all the other BC driving schools I checked in with. Its because of the experience and patience of my instructors that I was able to achieve this. Cant recommend them enough, if your looking to start driving professionally this is the place to learn how to do it. read more

Should be renamed North Shore Parking School - most of time spent in parking lot, not on road - less than 10% of 4-hour lesson actually driving. Poor time management by instructor or a ploy so you have to take more lessons?? read more

Eric is by far the best driving instructor. He was patient, knowledgable, extremely professional and because of this, my daughter received an almost perfect score. He gave her the confidence to drive and taught her "Good skill" not good luck is the way to succeed. North Shore Driving School staff is to be commended for their utmost professionalism and because of this, I would recommend them to everyone I know. read more
