Despite my initial enthusiasm for the service, I encountered several issues that diminished my satisfaction. Like many other Handy-person companies have begun doing in the last five years or so, they impose a minimum time limit to ensure a minimum service fee. I required several basic repairs around my residence, which necessitated the use of a ladder, screws, and a screw anchor. One repair was time-sensitive, and the company initially offered immediate repairs but suggested returning a few weeks later due to them being booked up. This approach was reasonable and appreciated. However, after further communication with the company, I discovered for the time sensitive repair, they required a $250 deposit prior to any work starting, and would charge their minimum two-hour fee of $300. The job involved simply reattaching one side of an outdoor sun shade, resulting in an estimated total of $820.85 for all of the repairs. As a homeowner I've had several estimates and repairs completed by Handy-person services over the last few decades, but this one has to be the most unreasonable. In contrast, I contacted another Handy-person service company today that arrived at my residence within 30 minutes of my initial contact.They provided an on-site estimate and completed all the necessary repairs in a single hour. The total cost was $110.50, which included tax. This experience met my expectations. The service was reasonably priced, and the handyman was professional and skilled. I now have established a go-to handyman who I can build a lengthy business relationship, year after year. It is unacceptable to ask customers to pay for labor before the work is completed. Materials may be charged, but labor should not be. So glad I found this new Handyman service company. I will definitely be leaving a positive review for them. read more

Our washing machine sits on an uneven floor and likes to go walkabout during the spin cycle. I'd it wasn't leashed by its hoses it would have eloped by now. The imbalance also leads to aborted spin cycles and wet loads. I'd seen on YouTube handy people fixing the problem but I don't have the time or even the basic skills to do that. Fortunately, these guys do! Took maybe four hours. They built a sturdy level platform for the washer and dryer and now we have dry laundry and a washing machine that sits still. We choose North Seattle Handyman to do our bathroom remodel last Spring and we couldn't be more happy with their craftsmanship. Before the remodel we had problems with the drain from our tub stopping up on a regular basis and also problems with dry rot in the floor around the shower. We had our cabinet above the refrigerator pull off the wall after 10 years with nothing done to it at the time to cause the failure. Dan came out and gave us two options; fix the current one with inside bracing and better support or, for more than the quoted price, take it down and rebuild the whole thing. We opted for the less expensive option and he did an excellent job. Couldn't be happier with his work, his pleasant demeanor and explanations. The only reason I'm giving it a four stars instead of five is that the company charged us for materials PLUS a 25% markup. We felt the markup was a bit steep. It wasn't a lot of money but just the principle of the thing. Of course we would expect to pay for materials, but not 25% more. Bottom line though is that, if you need a handyman, these guys are great...at least Dan was and we WILL use them again. Be also advised that they charge 3% extra if you pay by credit card, which is something a lot of companies are doing. No big deal but nice to know. read more

Our small kitchen remodel was the second project we had North Seattle Handyman do in our home. The kitchen space is in the oldest part of the house which began its life in the 1920s as a Summer getaway cabin for Seattle residents. So we had to do a complete remodel down to the walls including removing the old drafty windows and installing a new one. It was a difficult remodel because, as carpenters did in the day; (although they had plenty of wood and used it profusely), they didn't construct anything on the square. That's what NSH had to work with and they did a splendid job removing the old cabinets and shelves, hanging and texturing new drywall, installing the new cabinets, putting in a new floor, tiling the walls between the wall cabinets and counter, installing and venting the range hood to the outside, the plumbing, painting, insulation and because I was a licensed electrical contractor at one time, they accommodated me to do the electrical. And they worked with me on that part of the project. And in the end we have a beautiful new kitchen thanks to Caleb and his crew. Caleb's communication was excellent. They are friendly, courteous and great to work with. They are accommodating and they will not hesitate to make changes if something isn't quite right. They arrived on time when they said they would. And Caleb would call me before hand if there was a problem with arriving on time or other problems arose. We are very pleased with the great job they did and we will definitely have them back to do more remodel work that we plan to do. Also they are very reasonable in price given the area. read more

We worked with Dan and Gunnar to replace the siding and fix the gutters on our DADU. The job ended up being bigger than we thought (we found rot under the siding), but at every step of the way, the communication from North Seattle Handyman was exceptional. They never did anything without explaining to us exactly what they were doing, what materials they were using, and their thought process for solving the problem. They even sent it to us in writing so we would have a record of it. They did an excellent job replacing and painting the siding, and were incredibly thorough in their cleanup job. They talked to us about how to better maintain the gutter system, and lay gravel to prevent the siding from rotting again. Because part of the work impacted our neighbors property, they even took the time to speak to our neighbor, explain to her the work that was being done, and made sure she was satisfied with the cleanup. We also asked them if they could help replace a gate we had that was getting stuck shut, and sagging to the ground. Two other handymen had suggested we replace the gate, at a cost of $900. North Seattle Handyman looked at it and said we didn't need a replacement, we could fix the problem with a $37 wheel. Sure enough, they installed the wheel and our gate swings open and closed really easily now. They could have just done what I asked and charged us $900, but took the time to think of other, cheaper solutions. Would highly recommend working with them -- really detail oriented guys.
