As of this writing, North Perk is without a doubt the best coffee in Petoskey, MI. The prices are quite low when compared to competitors, but the quality of their coffee and espresso-based drinks are superior. I got the caramel macchiato 3 days in a row, while also trying their muffins, and they were great each time. The baristas know what they're doing, and their customer service was pleasant. The only thing that prevents a 5 star rating is the medium-sized lines that formed each morning, including limited and somewhat crowded seating options, but that could also be due to the people coming up north for the July 4th holiday weekend. read more

Saw this place when I was in town Memorial Day week. Finally made it here when I was here in July. The place had a very steady stream of customers over the hour or so I was here. Granted, it was a chilly, cloudy summer day so not a lot of outdoor things going on. Lot of families in here. Not your sole coffee hipster crowd...several hot chocolate, tea and cider orders. There were three people behind the counter. I was there during the unfortunate time when the bathroom was out of order and someone had to fix the toilet. Neither girl seemed interested -- and can you blame them? The guy went and fixed it. This may be wrong but just like killing bugs, I can do it but I'd rather have a guy do it. But I digress. Good mocha. The asiago bagel toasted was yummy! I'd say 6 four tops, 3-4 two tops and a counter for 3-4. Great that it's right next to Pennsylvania Park so when the weather is better, sitting out there is an option. Big windows so very bright in here even on a cloudy day. Reminds me of House Hunters when the house hunters talk about all of the "natural light" otherwise known as "windows". I digress again. A lot of outlets for your electronics too! This coffee shop is strategically located downtown Petoskey, with plenty of space inside. The drink was decent as was the service. However the atmosphere wasn't to my liking. It has a very open concept layout and the music was pretty loud for a coffee shop. However those are personal preferences. It's still a decent shop that many visit daily. read more

This is one of the very few eateries I have ever frequented that does not allow patrons to add a gratuity onto their credit or debit card transaction. Given the frequency of credit and debit cards transactions and ease in which P.OS. machines allow gratuities to be added to their receipt, I would hope that management's decision not to support their employee's ability to increase their compensation might be reconsidered. Was craving a good cup of coffee. This place hit the spot! Very clean, and fresh. I got the medium roast coffee. It was very smooth and not bitter! Didn't try any of the food but it looks absolutely delicious. The staff is friendly and helpful and there is free wifi and seating outside. It's also super close to the bay. The baristas need a little more training under their belt. I had a simple order, and when it did not come out right, instead of asking what I would like different they saw it to themselves to completely change it. When I asked for half and half I was told they only have vitamin d milk, and then as another barista opened the fridge I saw they did indeed have half and half so they proceeded to pour it in themselves without asking - as now my drink already had vitamin d milk in it. All I asked for was a decaf americano with room for cream and sugar. Their first draft was a very watery americano with milk and then half and half poured in. They then made me a caffe au lait - a coffee with steamed skim milk on it - without asking if I wanted it. I did not want coffee and I don't drink milk. I saw it was a lost cause so I said thank you and threw my coffee out. If you want people with a little more expertise try Dripworks down the street. read more

To start, we are Coffee people. We study and brew coffee often and passionately-(Aeropress,Frenchpress currently) with beans from the best roasters around the country (Heart and Coava from Portland, Four Barrel from Cali, Radio from Texas, Onyx from Washington, Zeal and Lineage from Florida, and our favorite mitten bean?? Madcap from Grand Rapids). We hand grind. We weigh and measure. We love Chemex, V60, and especially Syphon methods. Our local favorites in Northern Mi are Dripworks, Roast n Toast, Blk Mrk (in TC). All of this is to preface my review of Northperk. We stopped in to their new location to finally try them out and see what they do well (hard to not take myself right to Dripworks for a Perfect shot or pourover) but we Love finding new shops and supporting them. The Good- The inside is Beautiful and clean. Nice seating options, good temperature, clean. Music played at nice level. The Bad- they appear to be roasting their own beans and only had one, Dark roasted blend for drip coffee. Im not a fan of burnt and bitter. Asked if they roast and or serve anything lighter and was given a non answer "sometimes, but not currently-depends on whats in the roaster" Ok, ill try a Tea (sense in my experience, if they cannot get black coffee correct without sweeteners then they wont have the SCA knowledge to pull a proper extracted shot). Tried to order 2 different teas off the menu at the register- and they were out of both. The young man at the register, while being polite was also completely uninterested in the conversation and it showed. Sadly, we decided to leave without actually trying anything. Hopefully we can try again some time soon with a bit more variety in their offered roast profiles and varieties of beans. read more

Cute place in downtown Petoskey. Super clean and the atmosphere was nice. However, powdered chai and hot chocolate is lazy and gross. I'm not sure why don't don't get some chocolate sauce and even chai concentrate if they don't want to brew their own. I've just never seen that at any coffee shop ever. It's super cheap of the owners since the chai and hot chocolates are $4-5. Probably would try somewhere else if I am back in town. read more

I always come here to get my coffee when I'm in downtown. It is usually busy during the season and there is sometimes nowhere to sit. Not as good as Starbucks, but not bad! Caramel Macchiato is good along with the cold brew read more

If you are ever in Petosky Michigan please visit this quaint coffee shop. Not only do they have a warm and cozy atmosphere and great coffee they have stellar staff. After driving a couple hundred miles away I realized I left my diamond rings in the rest room, I foolishly took them off to sample their sugar scrub (which is also awesome) and neglected to put them back on. Once I realized my mistake I emailed the shop and Brittany McNeill contacted me immediately.... she had my rings safe and sound, asked for my address (In Florida) and sent them straight back to me. I was so impressed with her urgency and no questions asked attitude......not to mention the fact that my rings were still there! The atmosphere here is just right. The music was great and the employees were pleasant. Our drinks were ok, nothing very special. I had an Americano and I didn't get the heavy hit of espresso flavor I was hoping for. The thing that bothers me about this place is their insistence upon using not one, but TWO paper cups *and* a sleeve for all hot drinks. And there isn't a real cup option. This place is definitely a good place to go to hang out. They have very friendly staff and we were waited on promptly after we stepped inside. The barista made our drinks fantastically and we were definitely pleased with what we got. They have free wifi. The password is posted so it's not a completely open connection. The only downside is that they close at 5. But it seems like the majority of things close a bit early in Petoskey in December. read more

Out of the three coffee shops in Petoskey I have to say that North Perk is my favorite. They have great coffee and espresso drinks, the customer service is excellent, they're quick, and the atmosphere is great to hang out in. Ordered an Iced Chi and it was very good, but the overall atmosphere left something to be desired. The WiFi went down ( I could have figured out the problem in 5 minutes), the bathroom had no lights and the place was REALLY noisy. Take my advice, get it to go. read more
