Wow! We had multiple quotes and were not sure which company to go with. Dan's bid came in competitively, and we are absolutely 110% satisfied. Our historic home in east side of Providence provided a few challenges with regards to access, but this crew did a fantastic job. They went above and beyond, and we are very pleased. The crew worked very hard, sweating it out under the hot /muggy conditions. We had a cherry, maple, elm all removed in tight quarters done with remarkable precision, in addition to some over arching elm's that were climbed and pruned. Clean up was great, and they completed the job all in one day. Dan even helped us find a way to save some money - as we were able to independently get rid of the wood, saving us the additional day of clean up. I hate to leave bad reviews, especially during COVID, but I am so dissatisfied! In Nov 2019 I realized a tree in the front had branches growing quite close to the electric wires connecting my house to the pole. I called for a quote to have the branches trimmed away from the wires. Matt came out 11/12/19 and met with me. I expressed my concerns and he gave an estimate. I understood they'd come out in a few weeks but months passed. My husband called and they returned 2/13/20 and trimmed the tree. I returned to find it trimmed but not away from the wires. I called - time and again - to see if it could be resolved - to no avail. The office said they would leave Matt a message each time but we never spoke again. I was billed 3/2/20 and continue to receive monthly statements showing a balance due. Honestly, I believe it was a communication error because so much time elapsed between the estimate and the actual trimming (when I went back and looked at the estimate it said 'shape one cherry tree in front') but my repeated calls were just ignored! Even if there had been an additional fee it was just never ever discussed. I finally hired Martorelli's Property Service to do the work (same day service and cost less). I will pay the bill to protect my credit but don't ever plan to call Northeastern Tree again. read more

North-Eastern Tree was good a few years ago, not so much now. Always, always late even when you are the first scheduled job. Crew never seems to know what to do even though they have a written work order from the front man who comes over to see what needs to be done and prepare an estimate. Also, an employee in a white truck parked smack dab in front of my mailbox. Not doing work at my location. Asked him to move as mail does not get delivered if mailbox is blocked. Our neighbor hired this company to remove a tree of his that fell in our yard. They came two days after they said they were going to. They came and did a good job but left about 15 big logs on our front lawn that they said they would come back in a day or two to pick up. Now it is day 3 and I called them up to see when they were coming to pick them up because they are going to ruin our lawn. They said not until Tuesday, when I said it was unacceptable, Dave more or less said, "that's when they're coming ." Our neighbor paid up front, big mistake! North Eastern Tree come to our home to clean up the yard after a macro burst came through our area and caused an enormous limb (30ft) to break off the giant double Oaks we have in the yard. There were also a few other limbs that broke but never made it to the ground and were stuck in the tree. North Eastern went up into the tree and pulled down all the "hangers" and completely cleaned up the yard. I was quite impressed with their professionalism. Nice job guys! read more

My neighbor used this outfit. They used my front yard to toss branches. Could not walk on my walkway to the street. They did not ask to use the yard. I called to complain. After a half hour one of the crew told me they were cleaning up like they were doing me a favor. They broke my wall during the process. They may be good to their customer but not the neighbors. Paperwork signed on 8/26 to remove 4 trees and grind stumps on 9/16. Called on 9/16 because nobody showed up and we were told were are not in the system. Reminded sales rep of conversation and he said oh yeah well we will be there tomorrow. They cut the trees on 9/17, the day my landscaper comes, but my landscaper skipped my service that day because yard was full of tree limbs being dragged out. So I spent 2 hours cutting my grass on 9/18. They were supposed to come back on 9/20 or 9/21 to grind the stumps and removed all the logs (very large logs) they left behind. Nobody showed up. We called the sales rep and he said they would be there on 9/23. They showed up to grind the stumps but said "someone took their barrels" so they left large piles of ground stump, and the logs from the 9/17 visit because they are "too large". Then they called asking to be paid by credit card. We told them you're not done and we spoke to the sales rep about it again today. The billing person said, "oh, there's no notes in the system about it, we'll mail you the invoice". They were supposed to show up 10/1 to wrap it up at 8:30am per the sales rep. They never showed. We called the rep at 11am he said "they are on their way". It's after 5pm and they never showed up. Meanwhile two of my neighbors used Warwick Tree and both of their jobs were finished same day. I've had a very negative experience with North Eastern Tree service and I wanted others to know. 2 years ago I used them to remove a tree that had fallen during a snowstorm. The tree was close to the septic tank and they were told of this. They drove their machinery on the lawn and over the septic tank and broke ground and into the tank.... This necessitated having to get an immediate tank replacement. They offered to pay for the replacement as well as for the damage to the ground. But while it took 5 days to get a new tank installed it took 1 year to get the money back from the company to pay for the tank and the damage. We received 1 bill from the company for the tree removal which they never completed and did not pay. We talked with the company many times over the year and they agreed we did not have to pay. Now 2 years later they now have taken us to collections and they will not return calls or work with us despite us trying to work with the. read more

We had a consult with Matt to have trees trimmed. He was knowledgeable and professional. He was very polite and easy to talk to. He said it would be 3-4 weeks. It was 5 weeks but turned out to be good timing for us. The day of when the crew were supposed to come at 8:00 am didn't happen. My husband called and in 1 hours time the crew was at our house. I wish I could review this company's work, but it didn't happen. This is a report of deplorable customer service. The company was quick to send an arborist to give an estimate on August 22nd. He quoted a price that I agreed with and told me they were running six to eight weeks behind. He said he'd call late September to let me know when they'd be there to do the work. Fast forward 7 1/2 weeks and I called the company to see where I was in the queue. There was no return call. I called again the following week on a Monday, giving the same message, inquiring where I was on the list. Again, no return call from the arborist. That Friday, I called and asked for the arborist's supervisor, making my displeasure known and requested that he call me. Once again, there was no return call. Can it possibly be company policy to ignore customers who are willing to give them over one thousand dollars worth of business? Seven days after, I called the company again. This is a real shame. Five years ago, they trimmed out trees and did a wonderful job at a very reasonable price. Unfortunately, it seems like things have really gone downhill with this company. We called them again this spring, and needed them rather urgently. I made an appointment for an estimate. They told me that they could come by in ten days. I know that this is a busy time of year, so I figured that was reasonable. Then they called the day of the appointment and told me that they would need to reschedule. Fine. We set up another appointment for next week. I got home, and there was no paperwork. I called the company the next day, and they told me that the manager had it on his truck with him, and he would call "right away." He never called. I called back that afternoon, and the manager made a sarcastic comment and told me that he actually hadn't come by, but he would put me on the schedule for the next day. He didn't show up that day either. I called back the day after that, and they told me that the manager had gotten called away for an emergency, but he would be at our house within the hour. That was yesterday. I didn't find any paperwork when I got home, and they didn't contact me today to reschedule. By my count, this is four missed appointments, an un-returned phone call, at least one false statement, and a sarcastic comment. I guess I'll look for a different company. read more

We had them remove a tree and trim what was a tall beautiful cedar in our yard. They butchered this century-plus old tree. They removed far more limbs than requested leaving it with an inadequate canopy to remain viable, and destroying the appearance of a beloved tree. They did not show up when scheduled. Destroyed the garden around the tree. Left a mess in the yard and their answer was that the garden would "grow back." read more

A fine company. Lost several large limbs from an old, established pine in the back yahd. Matt was knowledgeable and professional. Guys showed up as promised and completed the take-down in about 2 hours. Cleaned up all branches and limbs, left the huge logs for another truck to take away using a front loader. That truck arrived 5 minutes after the first crew left and the logs were gone in 30 minutes. They checked in with me for my approval prior to their departure. I recently had three trees taken down. I have used them in the past and they have always been great. The tree crew and safety officer was first rate. I contacted the their office several times regarding scheduling and the lady who answered for was friendly and helpful. The only problem I had if u agree to do a job Monday ....don't come Friday Bc when a customer takes a day off then finds out u did the job already and I took the day for nothing ..,,makes for a great customer to pissed off one...overall great company !! read more

We have done many jobs - on Aquidneck Island, in Providence, Barrington and Tiverton - over the past few years with Northeastern Tree and have found the company to be excellent. Our contact, Adam, is fair, knowledgable, professional and highly responsive. We can't say enough good things about him. Adam has always shown up promptly, has bid our jobs fairly and thoroughly, and generally has a work crew show up to do the job within a few days of the quote. In my search for quotes on taking down a large oak in my yard, North-Eastern Tree was by far the lowest in cost, the biggest company, and seemed a safe enough bet with its large infrastructure to handle large jobs quickly and concisely. I had a gigantic tree that needed to come down and told the arborist who gave me a quote that I could keep the wood. I only needed it cut and needed the stump ground up after the takedown. This was the first of at least five times I asked to have the wood cut into manageable sizes. You know the phrase "they could mess up a one-car funeral?" Well, North-Eastern Tree crashed the hearse on this job. We had agreed that they would come out to do the job, first thing in the morning, on May 13, 2017. I was up at six in the morning ready to talk to the crew when they showed up. By 9:30, I called the company twice in order to be told that their foreman had pulled a no-call no-show and the guy I was talking to was meaning to call me about it. So, we pushed the date to May 20, first thing in the morning. The crew came, they worked hard, and they definitely earned their pay that day, but the job wasn't anywhere near finished on May 20. I wouldn't see hide nor hair of this company until June 7, despite calling over and over. Matt, the ever useless leader of this parade of mental anguish gave me endless assurances that the stump would be ground, the wood would be cut, and that they would come out "sometime" or "by the end of this week". Finally, after three weeks of this, and cutting plenty of wood myself, I heard the sound of a single truck in the street. One man had come to grind the stump, leaving a three foot high mound of wood chips where there was once a four foot high mound of stump with two extra feet of tree on it. This one day job had already turned into a four week ordeal with my yard looking a mess, with large pieces of wood piled on top of smaller ones, and with a tree trunk about twelve feet long and six feet wide capping off this chaos. I called up the company again about cutting this absurd amount of wood. Even after getting rid of three truck loads and after giving out whatever I could to the neighbors, there were massive pieces that no one could deal with. Right now I'm looking out my window on June 14, 2017 and there are still massive pieces, but these are "cut to size". The next date scheduled to finish the job was for Monday, June 12. I discussed this with the foreman on Friday, June 9 and told him that Saturday, June 10 would not work because a parade was happening in town and the streets would be clogged up. The morning of June 10 I awoke to a symphony of chainsaws, trucks, and a bobcat. They showed up on the wrong day. I was not happy and told that to the foreman, after he tried dodging my call three times. He said that he didn't know that a parade was happening in the area, pretended as though we had never talked on the phone the day before, and tried to blame me for their mistakes. He literally said, "it would have been easier if you just let us take the wood" throwing shade at me as though his willfully deaf and inept company was even a stone's throw from my house during the three weeks of one-sided communiques. The kicker to this chapter is that North-Eastern Tree Service had a shining truck in the parade. It was pulling the H.M.S. Gaspee, the titular vessel of the 1772 affair that the entire weekend's events are based around. Finally, on the right day, they showed up to "finish" the job on June 12. There are still giant chunks of wood but I'll find some way to manage them. The only department in this company that is actually on the ball is the billing department, which seems to have no ability to communicate with the guys on the ground, leading to mix-ups that add more insult to an already noxious situation. I first received a bill on Wednesday, May 24 after the company failed to finish the job. I was not going to pay for work that was not done, so I waited on the bill since there was still plenty to get finished. Ten days later, Saturday, June 3 I received a another bill stating that I was ten days past due. How can I be past due by ten days on paying for work that was not done, work that I had been waiting nearly a month to complete? I sat on that bill too. Finally, when the wood had been cut up, I sent the check in. The day after the wood was cut, about two hours after dropping the check off in the mail, I got a call from their office asking why I hadn't paid them yet. It was an absolute insult. The people working under Matt are hard workers with a terrible boss. North-Eastern Tree Service is an egregious affront to the notion of a well-managed outfit. Steer very clear of this company. The "guy in a truck" company will drop a tree on your house and North-Eastern Tree will leave you out in the woods with its hand out for an unearned payment. I should have known when they messed up the proposal, now I know never to hire this company again. read more

Received a quote from Dan for $2500 to remove approx. 20 trees in my yard (full day charge). Quote was about the same as others but they offered to cut additional trees and trim while they were here. Waited three weeks for my appointment this morning and they were going to bring large trucks along my yard (all other companies indicated that they would have to put plywood down along my lawn so it did not get ruined). North-Eastern indicated that to do this and do the job right, it would cost me $4,000! Much better and more ethical companies out there to do business wiith than North-Eastern Tree. The man that came to do the job had more experience than Dan that quoted the job and he had a lot of reservations. Glad I was at home so they did not destroy my yard! Stay away! read more

Came home to a tree in my yard gone. No notification from anyone. Apparently town had it taken down using this company which would have been fine if my yard wasn't left damaged. Even the towns new curbing is damaged. Called this company twice. Secretary took all my info and said someone would call me back. No calls. Town says they told the company they need to fix my yard. Tree was taken down over 2 months ago. This company obviously doesn't care. I now have quotes from landscaping companies to fill/sod my yard. Poor business all around. read more

When our tree was damaged by lightning and needed quick removal to avoid any further damage to our home and property, we were so grateful when Northeastern Tree Service answered our call for help. That, however, is where our gratitude ends, unfortunately. Due to the circumstances, we were not able to shop around and read reviews or carefully select a tree service. We needed help quickly, and that is what they were able to provide. They were the only company that picked up the phone that day. The weather conditions made it necessary to remove the snow from our yard before any of the gear could be safely brought to the tree. Fine. But, no care was taken to avoid digging up the lawn, and we now have large bald patches where the grass was torn out during the plowing effort. The larger limbs needed to be dragged from where they landed to the chipper in the road. Fine. But in dragging the limbs and branches, the side was torn off of one of our raised garden beds. The bucket truck needed to be brought up on the lawn to right next to the tree that was being removed. Fine. But no care was taken (maybe some plywood to distribute the weight?) to avoid putting large ruts in the yard. We will need to hire a landscaping service to fix the yard and make it safe for kids to play in and people to walk in without twisting their ankles. It was necessary for a few branches to be removed from one of our other trees so that the truck could get into the yard. No problem. We knew about that ahead of time. What we didn't know was that those branches would be left in the yard where they fell when they were cut off. We were told that the trunk of the tree would be left in three to four foot sections (we were planning to keep it for firewood); we were left with HUGE sections that took over a day of work to cut down to manageable size. We were told that all of the brush would be removed from the yard. What was left behind was yet another day and a half of clearing work for us to do. In fact, when the crew left at the end of the first day, we assumed it was just that - the end of the first day. It was snowing pretty heavily, so we thought they'd be back when it cleared up. But no one ever came back. The next we heard from them was the bill. We emailed the address listed on our paperwork for questions and to voice our concerns and heard nothing. We received another copy of the bill. We sent in half our payment with a print out of our concerns; the check was cashed but no one reached out to address our questions. The next we heard from this company was just another bill for the remaining balance. We are as dissatisfied with the lack of courtesy and consideration as we are with the poor quality of work that was done. read more

I called North Eastern Tree Service for an estimate to prune a tree that straddles my, and my neighbors yards. Matt Cook came out right away and have me a what I think was a fair price. There were some communication problems to start with, and the crew came out on what was a wet, dreary day to do the work. They did the job, but did not complete it as I had requested. To their credit, they did send the crew back out and they did the job exactly how I wanted it from the beginning. They pruned the tree extremely well, and after clean-up you'd never know they were there. We will certainly use them again when the need arises. read more

I hired North-Eastern to prune my very healthy 100' Canadian Hemlock hedge and was told certified, skilled and experience in arborculture would be doing the job. The laborers they sent were not skilled or experienced for the task to be done. They hacked out large areas and left gaping holes that cannot be restored.
