The trails of Centennial Park from the parking lot make their way away from the street and I found…read morethe noise from the cars died off as I made my way into the park today, Thursday 27 April 2023. As I explored the trails, I found a few stream crossings, different bird species, a baby snake, and a variety of flowers in bloom. The park was quiet and I did not encounter too many people as I explored. Across the stream(s), I found the trails could get a bit muddy and overlain with blackberry branches. I was wearing running shoes with thinner soles and decided not to go the way of the blackberry bushes as the thorns might have put holes in them, something to explore with thicker-soled shoes. The birds were singing all throughout my visit, which was soothing. Closer to the parking lot is a viewing area overlooking an expanse with longer grass, a covered picnic area with a grill, and an old schoolhouse that can be reserved for different uses. Fun park to stop and enjoy the wildlife, trees, and flowers.

I rode for about 6 miles in the direction of Redmond and then turned around and rode back. It's a nice paved trail that runs along the Sammamish River. I passed a couple nice family parks along the way. It was pretty busy, since it was a Sunday. There were cyclists, runners, walkers (some with dogs), and skate boarders and roller bladers that I saw. Some cyclists were going pretty fast, which can be a recipe for disaster, especially on blind curves. So beware of that possibility. Better safe than sorry.

The water is crystal clear and only accessible through the boat launch. This makes it practically necessary to have a boat, so shore fishing is not recommended. There is a large amount of bass, with some up to the 8.5 pound range. Expect to catch many dinks and a couple big ones. Also not a bad trout and bluegill fishery. If you see fish heads in the water it is usually because trout fisherman clean and fillet their fish by the launch and put the guts and head in the water. The locals around the lake are friendly from experience. This is a great neighborhood lake for swimming too, and surprisingly clean and well-maintained for a lake next to aurora. At night the lake turns purple from the sky, and nature really shines. Tons of rabbits, ducks, herons, mice, ospreys, bald eagles and even turtles and frogs! We love this lake.

The wetland boardwalk is one of my favorites, and a bit nostalgic as I grew up in the south surrounded by marshes. The wooden walkway on the wetlands is what makes this park unique. In a couple spots, the boardwalk does sway a bit and has small slopes that end in little puddles of water on the path (which I thought was awesome but I can see some people not liking this), but for the most part it's dry, flat, and stable for pedestrians on foot. It's not a huge park, but I think we spent at least 45 minutes exploring it. When we got to the end of the boardwalk, it turned into a gravel road that seemed to lead up to a small farm or something and a road... so we had to turn around to get back to where we started. It is not a loop. That's my only complaint. It's a simple walk with maybe not the most spectacular, but still pleasant views. The tall grass in the fields remind me of the Midwest (where I'm originally from), so it captures my heart.
