Lots of mixed feelings about this place…read more Plenty of computers and floor space but oddly not enough tables and chairs. The study rooms are like freezers but midday on the second floor is an oven. Plenty of printers but the wifi is spotty. Recently the management changed study room policy greatly limiting the flexibility of group work- resulting in mostly empty rooms as opposed to the constant battle for them. The stacks are quiet but have terrible ambience and even more terrible internet connectivity. It can get a bit creepy at night as desperate study spot vultures circle the shelves behind you. Accidentally taking the elevator down to the M level is also reminiscent of a potential horror movie scenario with its locked cage gates and dimly lit narrow aisles. Nonetheless, the place is open 24/7 during finals and is a reliable place to surround yourself with people doing mildly academic things. You'll at least feel a little less guilty about not studying after sitting here for half the day. Try the music library or the law library for a better library experience. If you're just here to get books, Richter is just as good as any other. At the end of the day, Richter is a University Library which could be a lot worse and has a fair number of amenities, and at least- does it's job passably. More like a 3.5 but I'll round to 4 for effort!

Worthy of a visit if you are in the area. The building was built from native keystone, quarried in the Florida Keys, Honduran Mahogany doors, Spanish clay floor tiles, and wrought iron fixtures. The building's Spanish influence is apparent, conforming to Coral Gables' guidelines for the Mediterranean Revival style. The main reading room has 15-foot high ceilings with exposed wood beams. It was designed by Edward T. Rempe, AIA, and his associate, Wray G. Succop, AIA. The library's interior is a blend of Spanish and contemporary influence.

I was exploring and discovered Andy Warhol and Picasso originals on the walls which is awesome. The Special collection non-circulating books were on point including Vegetable Butcher aka plant based foodie guide for those getting handy in the kitchen. The book detailed various produce, pairings with it, heaps of details, seasonal, and knife skills and selection of produce. Very smart book. I loved the Keith Haring Coffee Table book. I have seen his originals in NYC and right in SF in a church and downtown. He is very dear to my heart. I also loved the smart selection of Art from Indian and Nepal over the centuries. So many cool things on the shelves. Friendly staff and again any library that has originals by some of my favorite artists is 5 stars in my book.

There are plenty of tables and computers, and just a few weeks ago the first and second floors got a facelift. The first floor alone has literally over 100 large screen desktops and comfy chairs. If you ever get tired or need a change of scenery there's a bustling Starbucks right by the entrance, in the same building. If I'm lacking motivation all I need to do is take a quick glance at the focused students and doctors around me and I'm set for 3 more hours.... and that is the best part of studying here!

Today i chose to eat in one of the non-quiet levels so i can get to know some of my peers. Loved it. I am looking forward to checking out the other floors. One thing that i really liked was the security. You are required to be an FIU student to enter as well as leave, there are small scanners to prove you were in and out of the library that say. I did find many workers standing around just scoping out the area, I am assuming to check out & watch everyone. Since it is my first semester here, I will obviously be back! :)
