I really like the Green library it's been a favorite study spot of mine for some time now. There's a starbucks on the first floor and a snack bar in case you're like me and prefer to read and chew. Pros: You don't need to be a student to actually access the books and materials and I believe FIU advertises it as an open public library. Hundreds of computers and laptops that you can easily access. Nice and quiet and they you can send text messages to call out loud and obnoxious people. Cons: It can get crowded pretty easily. Getting a private room can be a bit of a mission. It's in the middle of the campus so there is no quick parking option to reach it. read more

This is my ultimate favorite place to study especially in the quiet floor which is the 3rd floor. It's always kept clean and open until 1 AM everyday so it's very convenient for people to spend late nights studying there. Highly recommend! read more

I guess the challenge is to find parking at any given time of the day without having to be stuck in circles for an hours time. Once you've secured a spot, you're either around the corner or a long walk away-you'll never be able to fully gage it. It's a tranquil spot to gather your thoughts and work quietly in your assignments with no distractions or noise. It's very spacious and if you're working on a group project, there's many sections for people to gather which minimize the effect that you'll have on those nearby. Be sure to have your student ID ready in order to use most of the amenities offered to Students. FIU is known to be a school of many commuters but there's also a heavy out of state presence which really adds to the diversity found on campus. read more

This review is for Panthers that are looking for information about Green Library. Always remember to bring your Panther ID. Just like if you go to the dry cleaner and without your claim ticket- if you do not have your student ID- the librarians and/ or interns at the library will barely notice your existence. You cannot check out any books. You cannot check out a laptop. You cannot check into the computer lab. You cannot check into a private study room. (Obviously with the Panther ID, all of this is available to you. The library is your oyster.). When you arrive downstairs, the first floor is not the library. There are classrooms. There is a food stop. Starbucks is located there. Not the library. To get to the library you must go up the escalator. There is a hidden elevator, but unless you are handicapped, just go on the escalator. When you go up to the second floor, this is the library. To the right is the check-out desk. You can check-out books, a laptop, seek assistance... IF you have your Panther ID card. On this second floor there are some classrooms. There is open seating, there are many computers available. This is not a quiet area. This is the area that you and a group of people can go together and study. Group project, paper, study session... here is where the party is. If you are on one of the computers in the library or checked out a laptop you can print to one of the printers. Printing is not free. Before you even think about printing anything at all you need a copy card or your FIU one card and some cash. You will need to go to the machine that adds money onto your card (for the life of me I cannot remember what it is called at this moment). In order to actually retrieve what you wanted to print, you must first choose to print it on your screen. Then you are to create a user name and password for the item that you are printing. The upper floors are where the single seating and silence will be found. Don't be afraid to ask the librarians on the upper floors for assistance. They want to help you. The would love to help you do some research - especially if it is complicated research that requires you to look into holdings that you cannot check-out of the library. Make sure that if you are searching for books that you put that you are looking for books that are located in the GREEN library. If you see the BBC - then you are looking at books that are at the Biscayne Bay location. This library is far far far better than the Biscayne Bay FIU library. read more

Today was my first day as an FIU student going to the Green Library! I really enjoyed it! There was several levels of "Quiet" and "Non-Quiet". Today i chose to eat in one of the non-quiet levels so i can get to know some of my peers. Loved it. I am looking forward to checking out the other floors. One thing that i really liked was the security. You are required to be an FIU student to enter as well as leave, there are small scanners to prove you were in and out of the library that say. I did find many workers standing around just scoping out the area, I am assuming to check out & watch everyone. Since it is my first semester here, I will obviously be back! :) read more

I like studying here sometime. It's usually pretty clean. They have a starbuck on the first floor and a convenient stop there as well. The weekend is pretty decent to find a good study area. With that being said... Week days suck. It's pretty packed and it's hard to find a place to study that is close to an outlet. Study rooms get reserved pretty fast and there are always inconsiderate idiots that neeeeed to talk to their friends in the quiet section of the floor. Overall it's a good library to study at if it's the weekend, you'll find min problems. Weekdays is alittle challenging. Good if you don't need complete silence and if you don't need to use your computer. But if you need to focus and study go to the law library by the business building. Great atmosphere and very little issues ( they don't allow food and drinks, and YES they enforce it, I've seen someone literally get yelled at for having a water bottle. FYI she wasnt even drinking out of it. ) read more

Called ahead to see if visitors were allowed to read material in the library. I was told I was allowed to read in the library, but couldn't check it out. Just until about a month ago I considered this library as my home, literally. Endless hours of studying and sleepless nights.. oh how I miss you Green Library. This is what I call a true love hate relationship. I hated the fact that I basically had to live here in order to get straight A's but I loved the fact that I could actually study for hours in peace. Yes, I admit it I couldn't live without you! Green library is by far my favorite library. It has seven floors, yes, SEVEN floors! I know, awesome right? As you go up in floors the quieter it gets. Try to open a bag of Doritos on the 6th or 7th floor; everyone will hear you! Starbucks is conveniently located on the first floor, which is perfect for helping students survive an entire day of studying or perhaps pulling an all nighter. My favorite thing about this library is the fact that you could rent out group study rooms which is what I call HEAVEN especially when you want some peace and quiet. This is ideal for group meetings, projects, studying or if you simply want privacy. They have group rooms for two, six, or eight people. The majority of the rooms have a gorgeous view, a dry erase board and sometimes even a huge flat screen. Forgot your laptop at home? iPad? That's no problem! If you have your panther ID you could rent a laptop for three hours or an iPad for up to 24 hours. If you're an FIU student with a panther ID you could seriously live at the library. Food and coffee (1st floor,) Electronics (2nd floor and scattered around,) bathroom (every floor.) Just be sure to walk to the gym to shower and bring an extra pair of clothes and a pillow. Now you know why I and many other FIU students considered this library our home away from home. read more

A nice work space. Parking is definitely not the best so and if you don't know your way around pin it so you can find it later! Bathrooms are a tad ick. Love that you can get 1 day-3 month access pass. The campus is beautiful so there are great views. If you want to see the view I don't advise you to go to the 7th floor, there at only cubicles and no long tables. If you plan on being there all day check the times for the various restaurants, I didn't and ended up missing out on good/close eats! read more

This library has been my home during my undergrad years when finals week came around. Make sure to bring a sweater/jacket- it gets cold! This library is usually packed as those who are regulars know where the good spots are. It holds a tutoring center, Starbucks, a department that knows all about computer and computer repairs, laptop rentals, printing center, quiet floors (though there's always a group that manages to talk and by talk I mean Cuban-loud talk), rooms to rent for group study..well, it has got it all! Love this library and they have guest access to the Internet if you are not an FIU student but are in dire need of Internet access- there is a two hour limit on this access; only students can receive access to hours of internet. read more

GL is very close to getting a 5 star rating, but I think there's always room for improvement. All the other reviews are pretty spot on. As Katrina G. said the higher you go the quieter it gets! :) IMO the lower levels are for hanging out. Upstairs don't you dare make a sound because you're liable to get a few evil eyes. You can easily spend hours in GL and get some quality studying done. And more importantly wall to wall resources. Using their online database is very easy and it creates a map to help you find whatever book you're looking for. Good memories I have of GL, beautiful views from the upper levels over looking Miami and staying there all night studying, Only distraction I ever had at GL were the good looking women!! :) But that can be said about all of FIU... better yet Miami!! read more

I always enjoy studying at the Green Library - especially on the 6th and 7th floors. People are generally respectful and quiet. The selection of resources including books, laptops,and study rooms make this library extremely accommodating to student needs. The only problem I encounter is struggling to find a seat near an outlet when I am using my laptop. Other than that I am satisfied! read more

I came here last Sunday to do a research paper, and the help desk was really friendly. They showed me how to find books and look for journals. However, when I went to print out some journals. I asked the circulation desk some questions, and they were not that helpful. They answered my questions, but I think they were BS-ing me! This library is good for research. Lots of books, but the workers could be better informed. There are also lots of open space to use for studying! read more

The collection is amazing. Plenty of space to study, whether in groups of independently. There's a bit of an ant problem on the sixth floor due to all the food that students bring. But every time I have to do research here, it gets done. Staff is helpful. read more

I love using this library to study and get work done. It is quiet and has plenty of places to sit and workspaces. They have free WiFi available which is great because I can stream my music on Pandora and keep up with my Facebook news feeds without tapping into my cell phone data plan. There is a Starbucks in the lobby which is awesome because I can stay caffeinated the entire time I am working and grab a snack to keep me going. There are also vending machines near by if I am in the mood for different snacks. Too many people try to make a fashion statement out of being at the library to study. I was visiting for the school of computer sciences' 25th anniversary and happened to stroll through the library for old times sake when I spotted groups of kids congregated around laptops dressed as if they where going clubbing. It's surprising that I can always find a computer to use, since we have thousands of students so I give them props for that, they have a wide variety and plenty of computers for everyone to use. Love the large amount of space. When looking for a book you will be on your own because help is not easily found; not even from the help desk. They do have quiet areas floor 3, 6 and 7 what it means is that people are not allowed to be noisy in theses floors. Conversations in the mentioned floors have to take place in the stairs or leave the library. The second floor is very noisy during regular semesters. Food is not allowed and drinks better be in a bottle. Lol I saw and read a sign. read more

Depending on the time, it might be hard for you to find a spot, especially if you are with a group of people. Take advantage of the option of renting a room for study groups.
