If you want the central location of every U Miami's Med school student's existance, you want Calder. As you enter the first floor, you are immediately hit in jade green scrub clad, STarbucks coffee holding, crumpled white coats, piles of messy notes, and laptops opened up to either Panopto to watch lectures or feverish typing of papers. Everyone's intense about something whether that means intense about finishing those 50 emails you left to the end of the day to take care of, intense about napping 1 hour before the next thing you got, or intense about watching your lectures 2 times speed because you don't have enough hours in a day to watch them normal paced but at the same time your eyes don't dare blink or else you may miss that one crucial bit on your exam. Ah yes, this is Calder Memorial Library. A place where dreams are made and some dreams are broken, discoveries are made, and where greatness of some kind is born.
Towards the end of every block, get ready for a smell of body odor of too many all nighters, greasy pizza, and crumpled tissues as the immune system is overwhelmed by stress. Desertion of the library never exists, because someone is always studying for something.
On the other hand though, those nice large apple Macs are nice to get your hands on and do some serious work with such large screens. Med students are also afforded free texts to check out and access to online journals. The staff in the learning department are helpful. There is somehow always an available place to study even though Calder may appear small. read more
