When the 1st floor gets too noisy and the 2nd floor is packed head up to the stacks tower. Stacks is quiet and has room for individual study. Their CHC (Cuban Heritage Collection) is filled with valuable research material from the island of Cuba. The University Archives on the 8th floor has cool UM memorabilia. The Digital Collection has a lot of materials as well. Items from the library's archival departments are usually always on display. Private library, however $5 gets you in as a guest. Worthy of a visit if you are in the area. The building was built from native keystone, quarried in the Florida Keys, Honduran Mahogany doors, Spanish clay floor tiles, and wrought iron fixtures. The building's Spanish influence is apparent, conforming to Coral Gables' guidelines for the Mediterranean Revival style. The main reading room has 15-foot high ceilings with exposed wood beams. It was designed by Edward T. Rempe, AIA, and his associate, Wray G. Succop, AIA. The library's interior is a blend of Spanish and contemporary influence.

I was exploring and discovered Andy Warhol and Picasso originals on the walls which is awesome. The Special collection non-circulating books were on point including Vegetable Butcher aka plant based foodie guide for those getting handy in the kitchen. The book detailed various produce, pairings with it, heaps of details, seasonal, and knife skills and selection of produce. Very smart book. I loved the Keith Haring Coffee Table book. I have seen his originals in NYC and right in SF in a church and downtown. He is very dear to my heart. I also loved the smart selection of Art from Indian and Nepal over the centuries. So many cool things on the shelves. Friendly staff and again any library that has originals by some of my favorite artists is 5 stars in my book.

There are computers with standard Windows programs. There is a row of Macintosh computers for those interested in bigger screens and fewer mouse buttons. There's a giant fishbowl room that's under appreciated : you can talk in here and do group projects. There are also two televisions that you can use to present things. Next to the fishbowl there is a lounge with comfortable chairs and a TV where you can relax in between studying. The basement: the dungeon. There are two windowless large group study rooms here that are also underused. If you study here, time will slow and you will lose track of reality. This is where I go to study when it's super crunch time. Second floor: there is a circle of computers surrounding an open atrium. There is a computer lab. There are two private study rooms in the corner. There are also a row of cubicles. And THERE is a NAP ROOM!!! It has comfortable chairs, massage chairs, and complete darkness. Third floor: there is a silent medical history room where you can have silent group study in a rustic atmosphere. There are also a few more giant tables here. Best part of the library: the librarians. They obviously really care about the library and are always so willing to help. Anything you need, they will try their best to assist you. Today i chose to eat in one of the non-quiet levels so i can get to know some of my peers. Loved it. I am looking forward to checking out the other floors. One thing that i really liked was the security. You are required to be an FIU student to enter as well as leave, there are small scanners to prove you were in and out of the library that say. I did find many workers standing around just scoping out the area, I am assuming to check out & watch everyone. Since it is my first semester here, I will obviously be back! :)
