North Anclote SandBar, also known as North Key Sand Bar, is a tiny sand bar and party island just north of Anclote Key Island only accessible by boat. Because there is no bird sanctuary on this island, overnight camping and alcohol is permitted. North Key Sand Bar is probably the best party island in the Tarpon Springs area because Anclote, 3 Rooker, and Caladesi island all officially don't allow alcohol on the beach but North Anclote Sandbar does. Island Paradise Charters does a 3-6 hour adventure cruise out to North Key Anclote Sand Bar for $25, an island cookout cruise for $40, a short sunset cruise for $10, and even island wedding cruises out to the island. SaveOurSandBar.org was founded in 2002 to protect the rights of boaters that use the North Anclote sandbar, remains ever vigilant, and throws awareness parties on the island ever so often. The sandbar's land use was initially changed with no input from local residents who had been utilizing this land for 18 year. Save Our Sandbar successfully blocked a management plan to protect seagrass by not allowing boats to anchor at the sandbar and now it's still okay to anchor less than 50 yards offshore. read more
