I chose to load my two U-Pack Cubes at the ABF facility (Oakland, CA) rather deal with having the Cubes on the street in SF. Same with unloading at this ABF facility near Pittsburgh, PA. Good choice at both ends, cheaper too! I packed it all myself, with some tie-down straps/ropes, and was pleased during unload that the shift in cargo during the cross country trip was not that much. This was the absolute worst experience I have ever had with a move. I wanted to make my move from…read morePittsburgh to Alabama as painless as possible, so I figured hiring full service movers to pack and unpack would be nice. I was quoted $10,000 for my 3 bedroom home to be transported. Other companies quoted me from $5,000-$7,500, but David (the estimator) was very nice and convincing that everything would go smoothly, so we splurged. 1. When the packers were packing my house up into boxes, the assistant packer spilled a whole bag of lentils in my basement. He never bothered to tell me and never bothered to clean it up. They also left empty tape rolls and box tops all over my house. They did not clean up after themselves. 2. The movers arrived the next day to load the van. There were four of them, two of them stood around and talked the whole time and barely moved anything. When they felt they had loaded everything, they hurried up and closed the van and didnt even bother to do a walk through to make sure everything was taken. They left two closets fully stocked and we had to throw away an ironing board, shoe racks, and figure out how to transport two bags of the clothing. 3. They advised me of a delivery window of 5 days that my stuff would be delivered and I would know the exact day about 3 days prior. They said the night before my delivery, my driver would contact me to let me know an estimated arrival time. We tried to reach the driver multiple times the entire day before up until 11 pm. I was told he would call by 9 pm. The coordinator tried to reach him multiple times and he wasn't responding to her as well. The next morning at 7 am, the driver texts me to tell me he will be there by 8 am. How unprofessional! He uses having a flat tire as an excuse to not responding the entire day prior. Communication is essential in this business. 4. We had paid for unpacking as well. They said they don't unpack and just put things out of the box and onto a countertop. No thanks! That's not unpacking. 5. Carol, the coordinator for the move, sent me a final price. Then she goes back and changes it to $1,000 more and charges my credit card. When I asked for a detailed invoice, she had to go to the billing department because there wasn't one made. Three days later and two followup emails requesting a detailed invoice later, she calls and asks if the movers unpacked my goods. When I said they didn't, she says invoice should be ready later that day. They sent the invoice the next day and just basically tweaked numbers to justify the amount they arbitrarily charged my credit card without running actual numbers. I sent an email to Carol after the initial packing disaster and she said she would send this to people help resolve the matter, never heard from anyone. I went with this company because of the positive reviews, but I urge others to go with small moving companies that actually care about the clients and not big corporations that don't quality control. I used Moto Movers the year prior from akron to Pittsburgh, and he was amazing, personable, and good. He was willing to do this move, but I thought let me try a bigger company. Learnt my lesson! Most traumatic move of my life, and we move every couple years for my husbands job.

It was easy to book through their website, and $80/hr for 2 people seemed pretty much on par or cheaper than the other options. They were also willing to work just 1 hour, which many other bigger moving companies were not willing to do. On the day of the move, the captain of the move team called me to confirm the time, and they actually were a bit early! The two movers were college football players, and they moved all my things up so quickly. Everything was done professionally, and I was extremely pleased with the move. Of note, you do have to provide the moving van and moving equipment (bellhop, wheels, etc.) since the Home Team only providers the manpower/womanpower. So why the 4 stars, you ask? Well, it was a bureaucracy issue, as always. The movers helped me for 1.25 hours, but I was charged 2 hours. The owner kept saying that the minimum was 2 hours, even though I pre-confirmed that he said 1 hour was the minimum. Fortunately, I booked online so I just took all the screenshots and sent them back to the owner. I also contacted my movers, and they confirmed that they were only paid for 1.25 hours. Then it took 2 weeks for them to say that they charged me in error. Eventually I just filed a dispute with my credit card and was finally refunded. It took THREE WEEKS to refund the difference, and I had to contact someone almost every other day. Given how prompt, courteous, and hard working their movers were, it's incredible how unorganized and honestly corrupt their office was.

Which would mean not only illegal but also driving under the influence. I wish that was the worst that happened.... I called over 15 times to see where our movers were an not one call was answered. Voicemail every time. They finally show up after we have done most of the work already. (What I'm paying them for). They manage to break a concrete coffee table from crate and barrel. Which Is now ruined. Over a 900 dollar coffee table ruined. Which this company is telling me that they'll give me $100 dollars as a refund. LOL a wow!!!! I was originally quoted for 242 for the entire job which was a 3 hour window. I was charged after this entire ordeal $349. More than my quote!!! I will be taking this issue to the BBB as I am at a loss for words with this experience.

They also lectured me that I would overpay if I used a different moving company, instead of rescheduling with them. I scheduled with another company and got great service and great communication. There are a lot of arrangements that a person must prepare on a "move day", and PPM had no regard for any of this. They did promise to refund my deposit, but they NEVER DID RETURN MY MONEY. Thankful that my possessions never entered their moving truck.

To make things worse, we got text massage the next day from Pittsburg Pristine complaining our inflexibility, and, we have still not received the $50 deposit fund back up to today! We decided to write this review to 1) let their management understand what was really going on; 2) let their future customers know before they are committed to a contract. One thing we wanted to make clear, we have dealt with their local manager for our moving possibilities; although we didn't pick Pittsburg Pristine for our cross country moving, we must say the manager was very professional in handling walk-through and price quoting part of business. We just hope we didn't have these unpleasant experiences during that extreme stressful time!
