Norshore Cab is by far the WORST TAXI COMPANY EVER! Too many bad experiences. Anywhere from not showing up, being late, lying to their dispatch saying they were onsite but customer was no show, arriving and picking up someone else, even though the order was called in with my name. I live in Evanston and the list goes on and on. If I could give them a ZERO star, I would! My number one choice is American Taxi! read more

These are my go to cab people when I actually plan ahead and if you have a preferred route (like I do for just about everywhere) they are very amiable. They also have a great airport pick up for us Evanstonians, you get your bag, you call and they will be there by the time you get to the curb, even when your flight gets in late. read more

I think this site is too tough on NS. Yesterday my wife booked an early am ride to O'Hare from Evanston. Cab arrived on time and she had a very positive experience. This morning I reserved a cab, also to O'Hare. They immediately texted me a confirmation, also texted when the cab was on the way and when it arrived to my house. I once scheduled a taxi to take me from Edgewater to O'Hare for an international flight. There I was, all packed, and about 5 minutes before they were due, I called to confirm they were on their way. They had lost my order, and could not send a taxi anyway because they were "already an hour behind." I ended up running -- carrying a huge duffle bag-- the two blocks to where my car was parked, racing to O'Hare in traffic, and had a minor heart attack trying to find parking and getting to the terminal. I was literally the last passenger to board the plan, all the while yelling "Wait wait wait!" The thing is, even if they hadn't lost my order, they were still running an hour late, so I'd have been screwed. I was not impressed; they almost lost me a nonrefundable airfare. Why are the taxis always so dirty? I feel like I may catch tuberculosis every time I get in one of these. Be really direct on how you want to get to O'Hare. Somehow these guys always manage to make it a 45 minute trip taking one lane back roads. read more

Back up to three stars--last time coming back from O'Hare, the cab was on time, and the guy's Crown Vic was in good shape, clean and redolent of cherrywood. Plus it didn't have the vaguely insulting vomit warning. But I will say, that of cab companies I see trolling the area, they have some of the oldest, shakiest vehicles. Terrible cabs. They rip you off with very high prices. They will add money to your bill more than you tell them too. They don't like credit cards. They are rude to their customers. Really a horrible service. Avoid them as much as you can. Plus most are are old beat up random cars. read more

I am surprised at the low reviews here. I had my first experience with Norshore last night. The dispatcher was helpful. However, he told us the cab would arrive in 5-10 minutes and it was 20 minutes. The cab driver was super friendly and drove safely in a major thunderstorm. Although the car was not super clean or new, I appreciated the safe ride home. read more

I was quoted a flat rate to the train station and when I got in the cab, the driver immediately started running the meter. Then he drove slowly so the rate would be even higher. We were heading to Union Station but he had no idea that there was a marathon so after driving 20 minutes South, he had to turn around and drive back the other way since all of the exits were closed. He then insisted that I was going to pay the full rate since it wasn't his fault there was a marathon. I had to call the company while I was in the cab with him and he starts yelling at them that he is not driving me for the flat rate. They told him that he had to honor the flat rate. The company was on speaker phone, at which point I asked if I could pay him the flat rate as compensation and could they discuss it later, as my train was not leaving in 30 minutes. He then calls the owner of the company, all while driving me, to complain and the owner agreed to take care of him. He had no idea what streets are closed, however, by some miracle, he is able to drop me within a block from the train station, after over an hour of driving in circles. He dropped me 15 minutes before the train was scheduled to leave, a block away from the train station. And, since he didn't know what was closed off, I had to pass through the marathon runners to get to the station! I got on the train 5 minutes before it was scheduled to depart. I called to speak to a manager but was told that I could leave a message, because there were no managers on Sunday. Never use this company. I was a woman alone with my 2 children in this cab and the whole experience was terrifying. Moreover, when I arrived in Chicago a few days earlier, I took the Norshore cab to my hotel. Do not trust any answers given by this company as they have POLICIES and PROTOCOLS requiring their call answering staff to misrepresent the situation, jeopardizing your chances of planning the best transportation for yourself or your family. The added insensitivity of knowing the passenger is a minor and the family has just gone through a trauma adds to my disgust in my first and last interaction with this "neighborhood" company. After a harrowing car accident caused by an out of control driver on Hwy 94 yesterday, followed by a work day ending after midnight, I woke this morning to arrange a taxi for my child to get to high school. We live near Devon where cabs can sometimes be hailed in the early morning, but as it was raining I called Norshore Cab's Rogers Park number-a Chicago number-and was told someone would be here in 10-15 minutes. My daughter hurried to get ready....and then we waited. And waited. I called back and they said a car was "coming out now-sorry we have to say 10-15 minutes if it is on our screen even if no one is in your area." Hmmm. Not an estimate-that is a policy of dishonesty; even knowing the passenger is a minor in a situation beyond the family's control. And we waited. And waited. I called again, my daughter now very stressed about being late, and we are told there is no one in the area but they are waiting to find someone. I am transferred when I question their policy of misleading about time and ask for a REAL estimate so we can decide on an alternative way to get my child to school; a male voice then tells me there is definitely no one in the area because Norshore is only in the suburbs and we have police in our area so the driver dispatched has decided to not answer the call. What? What is the driver's issue with police-I hear and see nothing from our house. He claims the only number published is an 847 number so I should have known better-not true-look at the website which not only has a city 773 number, but is specifically Rogers Park, so a search for local cabs directs me to them! He claims the responder who claimed "someone is on the way", seconds before he is on the line telling me absolutely no one is even in the area, had not misrepresented the situation. Huh? We could have walked to Devon and taken our chances over a half an hour earlier at this point. Shame on you Norshore. You are untrustworthy and have business practices that knowingly setting expectations which put customers' needs at risk. read more

I've used Northshore Cab at least two dozen times during the last 4 years, mostly from Evanston to O'hare. They have always been punctual, and always give me a call when the cab arrives. I typically call 10 minutes before I leave and have never booked a cab in advance. Good cab service to the airport. Not so good is that the driver sometimes ask for a few dollars more than the flat rate told by the operator when I called for a cab, that's before adding the tip. The cars are not as clean as I wish. read more

I wil never, ever take a Norshore Cab anywhere after my latest experience. I don't care if it's pouring down rain or if I have to walk for miles to catch another cab. The thought of giving this company my money makes me sick. Last night my roommate and I picked up a Norshore Cab on Davis Street in Evanston and had the driver take us to our apartment in Chicago. The driver told us he would take Western Avenue. As we were driving through Evanston my roommate casually asked the driver where we were and our driver went CRAZY. He accused us of "questioning the driver" and told us we "weren't being very friendly." He then kept asking us if we were going to pay him. We both felt extremely uncomfortable and would have asked him to pull over and let us out-- but we had no idea where we were and it was 10:00 at night. I asked the driver for his name and he refused to give it to me. Today I called the complaint number on their website and spoke with Mike, who was also rude to me. Quite frankly I'm shocked this is still an operating business. read more

If there were no stars i would give them none. I used them back in late Feb. to go from Midway to Evanston. About half way there my taxi driver got rear ended on the highway. He was driving aggressively and zipping in and out of traffic. He cut the car off behind us and thus, the car could not stop. He didn't even aske me how i was until he exchanged information with the driver. When we arrived at my hotel, i refused to pay thinking he would just say, yeah i'm sorry about the ride and leave it at that. Dirver said I have to get permission for that and the cab company said no way, i had to pay. The driver held my luggage captive in the trunk and the police were called. In the end, i did have to pay beause the cop said it was an issue with the company not the driver. The hotel staff at the Orrington were livid at how i was treated on a day that was below 10 degees and I had been involved in an accident. It took forever to collect from the cab company and they said the only reason they were refunding my money was the driver was found to be at fault. The company itself was awful to deal with and could care less if i was injured. All i wanted was my 55 dollars back purely on principal, i was not suing them. Please do not support this cab company. I have been told from my friends in Evanston that this is nothing new and the company is terrible. There are plenty of alternatives out there for safe transportation. read more

Do not EVER use Norshore to pick you up at an airport! EVER! If you give them your time and flight information, they won't use it. They have twice left me waiting at the airport for nearly an HOUR after I landed. What is the point of a reservation if they wait until AFTER you land to bother dispatching a cab?! Seinfeld anyone?! When I call them up to complain, their dispatchers try to give me some BS explanation about "this is how it works." Meanwhile everyone else nearby gets picked up and I am left in the cold thinking "Norshore is the worst." Do yourself the favor, don't ever use these guys. read more

First, I have to say that Joe S. is pathetic: calling 2 cab companies? WTF? He didn't mention paying both of them, so that's being a real punk to one of them. My review: I used Norshore twice in mid-January, and both times the driver was early, both times they got me where I needed to go (downtown Chicago and ORD) faster than I expected, which was very much appreciated, since I had serious deadlines for a meeting and a flight. The cabs were clean, the drivers were friendly and knowledgeable about Chicago, Evanston, Skokie, and gave good recommendations. I really wish that more cab companies hired or cultivated drivers like Norshore's. I realize it's hard to get and retain amiable drivers, but Norshore hit 2 homeruns. read more

When I schedule a cab, I expect the cab to arrive promptly at the appointed time and place. For example, if I'm flying out of O'Hare, the cab will be scheduled to pull into my driveway at a specific time beforehand. Based on my experience yesterday, this is a foreign concept to NorShore Cab. Eight hours in advance, I knew that I'd need a cab at the N. Glenview Metra station at a specific time. The dispatcher said they serve Glenview, but I couldn't schedule a cab that far in advance. I should call again after boarding my train. Hours later, I called from that train, but was told I couldn't schedule a cab at all. Instead I needed to call back when I arrived in Glenview -- the dispatcher explained that cabs arrive swiftly and can't be expected to sit around and wait. I protested, saying that my train would arrive in just 20 minutes, and surely a little advance notice for the driver wouldn't hurt -- but the dispatcher said no. So, when I arrived in Glenview I called for a third time. The dispatcher took my info, and announced that the cab would arrive in about -- 20 MINUTES! Mentally, I asked - You imbeciles have known for 8 hours exactly where and when I needed a cab, so why are you making me wait? Don't you know that people schedule cabs to avoid waiting and uncertainty? Why should I pound sand for 20 minutes if I could nearly walk home in that time? But I didn't say any of that. I just said no thanks and walked home, lesson learned. read more

Called about 2:30 pm today for a taxi from Evanston to the Drake Hotel in Chicago. Instead of stopping in front of my house, where there was plenty of room, he stopped half a block down. I am handicapped. He did not understand English very well. He stopped on GREEN at Sheridan and Devon, waited for the light to turn RED. He did not know where Hollywood av. was. He would not unlock my window switch, so alternately I got rained on, froze, or it was too muggy, as he kept adjusting the windows. He did not know how to get to the Drake. He did not know where Chicago av. was in Chicago, which is a major street. He was a terrible driver. read more

First of all, cab driver 159 was incapable of navigating to my end destination resulting in my friend having to stay on the phone for the entire cab ride in order to direct the driver. When I was exiting the cab I didn't get my phone back from the driver who had been using it. I immediately contacted the company the next day yet they were unable to even get in contact with the driver, despite the fact that he drove for them. After a week I finally got the company to suspend the driver which is when I finally got in contact with the driver. The driver blamed the loss of the phone on the fact that another customer must have picked it up even though he was the last one to have the phone in his possession. This company is disreputable, unreliable and downright shady. I would chose any other company or uber before EVER thinking of trusting them with my business again. read more

I've used Northshore Cab about 6 times so far, always going to or from the airport. Four of the six times there were no problems - the cabs showed up early and got to the airport in good time. They're not the cleanest cabs, and most smell of stale smoke and cheap air fresheners, but that describes 90% of the taxis I've been in no matter what cab company or city - and I understand they have to keep costs down somewhere (taxi drivers get paid too little as it is) - so I can't hold it against them. But then there are the other two times I used Northshore. One time I scheduled a pickup from the airport, and when my flight landed and I called them they told me they didn't have any record of a reservation for me. They said they'd send a cab to get me as soon as they could, which meant I had to stand around for 40 minutes waiting for them to show up. Annoying, but I figured mistakes happen and I was in no rush, so it was no problem. Recently my finacée's parents were in town and needed a cab to get them to the airport. We ordered a taxi for 7:00am and when nobody showed up by 7:05, we called them. Northshore told us that yes, they knew we had asked for a cab for 7:00, but they hadn't been able to get a car for us yet and would let us know when they could. Seriously Northshore? You think people who are heading to the airport have all morning to stand around waiting? Miraculously, just as my finacée hung up (after cancelling the order with far more politeness and grace than I would have in this situation) a guy in the building next door who drives a cab was just leaving to start his shift and we flagged him down. So I give Northshore 2 stars because they haven't failed me quite every time I've used them, but I'll certainly never trust them to get me (or anybody staying with me) to the airport again. read more

Do not use this cab company---avoid at all costs. My boyfriend and I took a Norshore cab on saturday night from the Davis purple line stop to a Devon cross street around 2:30am. It was no longer than a 10 minute cab ride. When we got in the cab, the driver told us that his computer system was broken so he couldn't take credit cards. Then he asked how much cash we had and we told him $20. He said "ah, yeah that will be perfect." Then when we proceeded to drive, he left his meter off. I even asked him "why isn't your meter on?" in which he answered with his false reply of "computer is not working." When we reached our destination, he took our entire $20 and left. When we got inside we asked our friends (who came from the exact same place) how much their cab rides cost and they said $10. So, our driver lied and double charged us. I called the Evanston number today to speak to a customer service rep and I kid you not she said the following: "For all we know you could be lying and just saying that to get your money back. There's no way to prove that that actually happened." Uhhh--- no sh**. That's because your driver tricked us into paying cash, which obviously cannot be traced. I do not know if this is just how they operate their business or if their customer service dept. has not been properly trained with the principle that the customer is always right. Either way, I will never be taking this cab company again. Horrible service all around. read more

I know the winter months can be tough getting a cab,but i've called northshore cab three times this month for service three times there's been a complication getting the cab.Today marks the fourth incident. I've lost hundreds of dollars because of this. When i do get the cab i've paid with credit card and could'nt get a receipt because the paper feeder did'nt have enough paper or the device was'nt working properly. I 've arrived at my destination,but i'm sitting waiting for credit card device to work properly 5 minutes......I've already paid the fare,but the cab driver is on the phone with the office about a transaction that has already gone through. On occassion they've sat in front of the wrong address, Cab companies in Evanston are unreliable.Call two hours in advance, You might get lucky and get cab. read more

If I could give them 0 stars, I absolutely would. I used them for 2 years before finally giving up and accepting defeat- that no Northshore cab was ever going to get my reservation correctly. In my history of attempts, on 4 separate occasions, my cab has not shown up, no matter what preventative measures I take, no matter how early in advance I call, and despite my follow-up calls to make sure the cab is coming, at which time the dispatcher always assures me the cab is on the way... American Taxi isn't much better either, but something has to be better than these people. read more

I'll give no star if I can. My husband used this cab company often until he noticed that the meter jumped crazily after the driver touched it. I saw that myself one day when we were in a hurry and that was the only cab on the road. Worse, he brought us to the wrong place! What prompted this review - my first on yelp! - was what happened this morning. I felt dizzy suddenly and asked my husband to pick me up from Orrington Elementary School where I was volunteering. He quickly took one of these cabs from downtown Evanston, asked the driver to wait less than five minutes outside the school, and we headed back home. The one-way ride is usually $6-$7. But guess what, he charged us $21!!! It was then that I realised that he didn't use the meter at all. In fact, my husband said he didn't know how to get to the school! We just wanted to get me home so we didn't argue with him but I thought everyone should know that this isn't the most trustworthy cab company. Sure, it may be a few black sheep but why risk it when there are better ones around? read more

Can I give less than one star? This company is a joke, and the way they conduct their business is completely reprehensible. On two separate occasions I have scheduled a ride to the airport a day ahead of time, and two times I have had to call the company to actually send a cab when those scheduled ones do not show up. The day before Thanksgiving this happened again. I was up at 5am waiting for my 6am cab to O'Hare and....nothing. I called them to actually send a god damn cab, and when the driver shower up 15 minutes later (630 by now on the busiest airport day of the year), he said "they told me you woke up late". So basically it's a bunch of incompetent idiots running the company, with no way of ordering a guaranteed ride. I'm never using this company again. read more

NO STARS. The WORST service. Don't even consider calling them to make a reservation for O'Hare. I made a reservation 3 days in advance. First thing in the morning, I called to confirm. Then, I called them every 5 minutes after the taxi was supposed to be there. I was told things like: it's on the way, he's almost there, two more minutes, he stopped for gas. Everything they said was a lie. (Maybe they just like to amuse themselves like this.) Finally, concerned I would miss my flight, I drove to the airport and parked at a hotel lot. Norshore has deteriorated to the point that after 20 years as a customer I now refuse to use them. There are long waits if you call and the recording keeps telling you to use the app, but the app just doesn't work. You will sit there forever waiting for a cab to be assigned, and their drivers accept assignments while they are still driving a prior customer, making the estimated wait time highly understated. The wait at Ohare can be 45 minutes or more. Most of their cabs are dirty and smelly. American Taxi is a good alternative to Norshore and at least their app works. Evanston should really revoke Norshore's franchise and give it to another company. read more

Do not take Norshore. They scam you and are absolutely horrible! I went to O'hare airport last week, and had a $35 flat rate from Rogers Park. The cab then tells me that it is $41 because he had to go back a half block, so I could grab my wallet. It was cab 118 and he said that it is $5 for another stop, and $1 for the meter, even though I had a flat rate. I called Mike Decker, the person in charge of complaints, and he said that there are no extra charges for stops and it should have been a flat rate of $35. But, he never called me back to fix the problem at all! He did nothing to resolve the situation or give me a credit/money back, etc.. I ended up taking yellow cab on the way back home from O'hare and it was a meter rate of only $32!!!! I do not recommend Norshore, and I am extremely upset with the service and the bogus rates. read more

I wish there was a zero star option. I had a pre-arranged cab for an international flight arriving into Ohare. I called once I had cleared customs, and they told me my cab number and where to wait. I waited and waited and waited in 90+ degree heat after having been awake for 36+ hours. Cab never showed. I waited so long to get through to dispatch about the missing cab that I got in a metered cab knowing it would cost me $80. Eventually the dispatch answered and said my original cab had broken down so they'd sent another. But they never gave me the new cab number, never called, and I don't believe them. Oscar, the supposed owner, said he'd call me the next day to reimburse me for my troubles, but never did. They are THE WORST. Don't trust them, don't use them. read more

I would try American Taxi over Norshore. Norshore insisted on charging $33 per person for two students for a total of $66 going from O'Hare to Northwestern University and the dispatcher was rude. American Taxi charges $30 for the first passenger and $2 extra for a total of $32 for two for exactly the same ride. read more

Neither the cab nor the office staff are trustworthy.Picked up a Norshore cab from the Orrington to go to O'Hare. There is a flat fare. He put on the meter and took his sweet time getting to the airport. I called the office number on the window of the cab to complain just as they state, and gave him all the information he requested. Instead of being reimbursed as promised, the staff merely belittles you. Take the bus. It's just as fast, nicer to deal with, and MUCH cleaner than the grungy cab we had. read more

I've relied on Norshore Cab for over 30 years for transportation to/from O'Hare. Have noticed a gradual deterioration in both equipment and drivers over the past several years. The final incident was a major screw up by the dispatchers -- I called at 3:00 pm for a cab to pick me up at 4:30 going from Rogers Park to O'Hare. The dispatcher said fine. At 4:27 the phone rang, but it wasn't a driver saying he was outside, it was the dispatcher saying he didn't have any cabs available and he didn't know when he would have one -- did I want to wait?? Well, with a non-refundable ticket for a plane that wouldn't wait, I said no. Had to drive so as not to miss the flight, and incurred over $100 in parking costs... read more

Very unreliable service. You can call hours in advance and the cab will not show up. You won't be notified though - you will have to call yourself to find out where your cab is. I signed up for text updates via webhail but they don't use those either. When I called to complain, the supervisor said "we are not guaranteed " and refused to take any responsibility. Try 303 cab. Upon my many travels I look toward my return to my domestic life the most. The livery buggy that returns me to my stoop from the port I arrive in is of the utmost importance as it is the first taste of my local. As of late the livery services of Northshore shall no longer be requested. In fact I wish a pox upon the owners of this flaccid enterprise. I do not expect scholars to work at this establishment but I surely do not expect simpletons with a brutish demeanor to act as clerics responsible for harkening the livery men to my pick up destination. When last I requested the service of Northshore I was greeted by such a type of person that would make my lobotomy patients wince in dismay. As per my usual I asked to be pick up from my port of arrival upon which the Northshore mongoloid asked me what the exact terminal number was. I informed him of the company name that operated my craft was knowing full well that he could deduce the exact terminal better than I as I was still retrieving my baggage. Upon making this argument the barbarian dared to tell me that he hadn't the ability to extrapolate the number of my terminal and that I would need to contact him once I was already out of the port at the terminal, only then would he be able to send the carriage for me. Needless to say I grew weary of his simple thought process and called a carriage company that operated at levels of professionalism and normalcy that I have come to expect. read more
