I use Uber a lot! But not always out of town over a long duration. However in Chicago I did use ride share exclusively for a week. Note I also used Lyft and would compare prices. Not one or the other was always more reasonable. However once the price was $12 difference when heading to the airport. In my option ride share is the way to go if in the city of Chicago. There are too many issues with parking and the high price that makes it counterproductive to rent. The app functioned well, better in my opinion than Lyft. I utilized Uber around 10-12 times and found on average the rides arrived in under 10 minutes. Some were within a few, but others were longer. The drivers were almost all foreign, but spoke English. They were professional and mostly knew their way around. Few instances of problems that brings the review down a star and a half I would recommend Uber. 3.5 rounding up. I tried to rent a car through uber, they do third-party reservations for car rental businesses. Paid in advance. When I went to pick up the vehicle, turns out the business doesnt rent to locals. So I could not rent the car. I asked them for my money back and they said I needed to go through the third party I used to make the reservation, which would be Uber. Uber is refusing to refund the money. They kept repeating that the rental company doesn't rent to locals. Ok, fine, I know that now. However, I DID NOT TAKE POSSESSION OF THE CAR OR USE IT. Therefore I am owed my money back for a car I did not pick up or use. There is nothing in the terms and services that stated the money is non refundable. It's a simple concept: I paid for a service that was not rendered therefore I get my money back. Uber did nothing but just tell me "their T&C says they do not rent to locals" and then tell me to have a nice day. I'm not trying to argue to use the car. I'm arguing that Uber doesn't get to keep my money for something that wasn't used. They've been ignoring me since their last "have a nice day" on the 18th. I've been sending emails almost every day since then and all of them have been ignored. They keep your money when they should refund it, and then they think ignoring you will make you drop it. So these bastards signed me up for an Uber One account without my permission. Here's what happened: I was trying to place an early morning coffee order with GrubHub. My browser suggested Uber, and I was half-awake and uncaffeinated, so I clicked through to Uber and started to enter my GrubHub login info. By the time I realized my mistake, Uber had my email. But I hadn't given them my credit card. Which raises a troubling question: If they really erased my data -- as they said they did when I deleted my account earlier -- how were they able to sign me up for Uber One and start billing me? When I read the email congratulating me on my Uber One membership, I was livid. Had to spend the next half hour trying to cancel, because of course, you can't talk to an agent. I'll double down on what I said earlier. This is a shady company. They're too cheap to invest in customer service, and they operate right on the borderline between crooked and legal. This review covers only driver side. The driving experience its self is good. There's nothing inherently wrong with the drive it's self. Yes, a few glitches in the GPS and App but easily resolved in a few minutes time. The HR management and staff handling? This is where they bombed it so bad I'm returning my Uber rental and charging off the card involved in the rental. Since the expense was classified as "experimental rehabilitation - physical rehab driving" it is legally medical rehabilitative in nature thereby authorizing me to engage a hostile default against the creditor. I didn't lose any money Uber. You guys did though. You guys 'lost' $500 because the card is smoked and you still owe me $119 So you lost $619 as a company and blew out a credit trade line. All because you guys can't follow the EFTA and notify people prior to the day of payout. If you people sent a text or email yesterday I'd have halted the payment to the dead account that I have no idea how many banks ago it was. Honestly think that was from when I had banking at Citi. Nah. Instead you just send money to dead accounts and expect it to come back and then expect people to have no remote telematics over their funds. You guys use far more telematics on me driving than you do on the MONEY coming. If you can track a single drink being delivered from point A to point B but you can't trace $119 and halt it being possibly stolen then you deserve me 'stealing' from every credit card I have. The Uber app crashed while I was getting a ride, and I couldn't cancel it. I sent the email below to their investor address because it is the only contact info on their web site. This was their reply: "Thank you for your email. Investor@uber.com will only respond to investor inquiries. All support inquiries should be directed to in-app support. Uber Investor Relations Team" I have contacted them about problems in the past. I found the archived messages on their site. But now they don't allow customers to contact them. Going forward, Lyft will be my go-to and Uber is last resort. Almost 2 hours later, their app is still not working. --------------------------------- Uber no longer provides a way for its customers to contact them, so I'm writing to you. Please be so kind as to forward this on to the appropriate people. Earlier today, Sunday, November 16, I needed a ride home from the grocery store. I called an Uber. Then I got a different ride, so I wanted to cancel the Uber. The app wouldn't let me. It stayed frozen on the promo screen and would not do anything. The menu buttons at the bottom weren't there. The Where To? at the top was not there. Only the promos. It stayed like that for my entire ride with the other service, even though I tried several times to access it. I was receiving the notifications from Uber but when I tapped on them, it went back to the promo screen. It is still doing that now, more than an hour later. So the driver wasted his time coming to pick me up, waiting for me and then canceling because Uber's app did not work. I've spent my entire lunchtime on the Uber site, trying to find a way to message them. I have been able to message Uber about problems in the past. I found the archived messages in my file. But Uber no longer allows customers to contact them. At one point while trying to find a way, I marked that the driver didn't have a face mask. I don't actually know what the driver did or wore. I never saw him. Please take that off his record. I am fortunate to have a good job so I don't mind paying the cancellation fee. I do mind very much a company that does not allow its customers to contact them with problems. Going forward, Lyft will be my go-to and Uber will be last resort. I used Uber 100% of the time for business/personal trips. I recently used their "wait and save" feature for a trip to Ohare for a cost of approx $36. Initially the wait was estimated to be approx 15 min. It ended up being 25 min, which was unexpected, but isn't the real issue with writing this review. The driver shows up, I go to get in the car, only for him to tell me Uber is only paying him $10 for the ride. He then proceeds to tell me he's cancelling my ride and speeds off. Of course I'm livid at this moment because now I'm scrambling to get a ride to the airport to catch my flight. My only option for a quick pickup was now a premium car through Lyft that cost me $70. As I'm on the way to the airport in my $70 ride, I'm on the Uber app trying to find any sort of customer support, only to have to chat with an AI bot. Then, I get a notification my initial ride was assigned to another driver (after the first driver cancelled it) and the new driver has arrived to pick me up. This is literally 15-20 min later. I obviously have to cancel the ride, which then cost me a $6 cancellation fee. My head was honestly about ready to explode. I finally start chatting with what I think was a real person, only to have them say, ooops, sorry about your bad experience and here's your $6 cancellation refund. Like WTF! Why have a "wait and save" feature on your app if this is the outcome. What was supposed to have been a $36 trip to the airport ended up costing close to $85 with tip. This was the WORST customer experience I've had in a very long time. Needless to say, I completely cancelled my Uber account and will start using Lyft and local taxi/car service going forward. A few nights ago, I ordered an Uber from my office to meet a friend at Salt Shed for dinner and then a concert. My driver was late arriving and the trip took a little longer because there was a ton of traffic, but she dropped me off at Salt Shed and the ride was fine. At some point in the middle of the concert, I received two missed calls from ADT Security Systems. I didn't know about these calls until after the show, and I received a text from Uber wondering if I was in distress. I didn't think anything of it at the time and thought this had to be a mistake. The next day I find out Uber is charging me $194.62 for a 3 hour trip I never took. I tried getting in touch with them immediately. I wanted to give the driver the benefit of the doubt that maybe she just forgot to turn the ride off, but you never actually get to speak to someone, this is all done through chat bots and for reason unbeknownst to me they decided the trip was valid. So somehow my 20 min ride turned into a 3 hour trip and I am being over charged by $180. I googled the supposed drop address and its just a random overpass inn the middle of a street. I can't believe this company and this driver are going to get away with stealing money from me!! What's also weird is the app claims I rated this driver 5 stars and I never typed a review. This driver is a thief and this company is allowing it happen. I have been a customer for over 10 years and I have never experienced any issues until now. We used both Lyft and Uber to get around Chicago. This is about our experience with the Uber Pick up zone at the United Center. It seems like a great idea in theory. There is a huge tent set up with seating. You come inside and order your Uber and proceed to meet your driver in an assigned spot in the lot. The problem, drivers didn't want to pull into the lot. We're not from Chicago. Our driver is telling us where to meet him on the street and we can't find him. It took us about 10 minutes of walking around to find him. Also the surge pricing is crazy! Every time I reserve a ride, I'm indicated the price I'm supposed to pay, and every time I end to pay an extra $20+ afterward!! I then have to dispute the charge within the 30 days limit to get refunded. Had a family member that uses Uber regularly for rides home from work after midnight. The driver failed to end the trip, the driver went all over the city and back to the burbs. He got a bill over $300 where normally $25, he had to dispute it, which caused more issues by being locked out to book rides. He illegally turned into me cutting me off from a forward traveling lane, while I was in the righthand only turning lane. We were both at a stop light, when the light turned green he decided that he want to turn right so he sped up in an attempt to dart in front of me. I was pulling a trailer and made an attempt to swerve to avoid him, so in the process my trailer was damaged. For years I had been using American Taxi just based on habit. And sometimes they've been cheaper than let's say Uber or Lyft. But the only problem is, the last couple of times, when trying to get an American Taxi cab from O'hare, I'd get the message that they're booked to capacity. So that's made me turn to Uber, of course, you do have to grab your luggage and go back to the upper level and walk to terminal 2. The pick-up corrals are divided by color - Orange, Green, Black, etc., so be mindful of the corral and you'll be fine. That's the only drawback at the airport. Otherwise, Uber is always on time and I've had very few issues. In fact, heading to O'hare this time, the driver beat me to the pick up spot. They're really quick and these friendly drivers, they have really clean cars. I like striking up a conversation because they're regular people - working hard, many will share their own travel plans and experiences. read more

The driver who showed up was driving an OLD piece of crap Toyota Prius. The car was filthy and nowhere near what I would expect from selecting a "comfort" ride. Uber obviously does not qualify their drivers or their vehicles anymore. It's all about volume and revenue for them, and not the customer service experience to the customer. Yesterday I made an appointment at Uber's Greenlight office. After waiting 2 hours I was finally served by a Mexician female fat employee with long hair. Although she was supposed to serve me she was texting someone on her computer and not paying attention to my problem. She was not only not interested in solving my problem at all she also talking about things that would not work and texting someone too. I was disappointed to meet such a heartless employee. So I went to the door to get another appointment and asked for someone else to serve me. But that woman stood up told him security guard and threw us out of the office. This is the only place where you can find a place where you can rudely throw a customer out of the office without realizing your responsibilities at work. If I had a chance I would have sent their rudeness to the central office where I could have recorded it on my phone. But their rude security guard even kicked me out of the office. I was very upset by their rudeness. If you go to the place, it will be a waste of your time. I gave this place the worst of rating I can think of. I also hope that the manager who runs this place if he has any management will pay attention to the responsibilities of her incompetent rude employees. read more

Just because something in the stupid system told him that's where I wanted to go, I wanted to be at 87th street near my school not near a hospital. He drove all the way from a 103rd up to 55th Garfield and back down to 63rd street it's breed rather than just going straight to 87th because of your ignorant system No one has ever called me or tried to explain this nightmare. IT WAS DIFFICULT TO KNOW EXACTLY WHAT WAS GOING ON TOO BECAUSE HE EITHER HAD HIS GIRLFRIEND OR ANOTHER PASSENGER IN THE BACKSEAT WITH ME. THE SYSTEM DOESN'T SHOW ME WHERE EVERYONE IS GOING. ADDITIONALLY,, UNTIL THIS JERK, FORCED ME OUT OF THE CAR, TO "PICK UP ANOTHER FARE." MY PHONE WAS SHOWING MY CORRECT DESTINATION! And now your stupid app is only giving me this comment that it's beyond 30 days I don't care if it's beyond 300 days you people at Uber deserve the kind of wrath that I'm gonna guarantee you receive because this information is now going on Google Yelp and every other place I can figure out where to put it until I get all my money refunded from this stupid 9.99 charge and that fee that you charge me for that ignorant ride. Luckily I was on 63rd street 3rd street and I could walk over to the red line, but I should never have had to. Let me tell you my story with Uber & how much I dislike one of their drivers & how TICKED off I am at JOSH. This took place Tuesday, January, 21, 2025 I was on my two week vacation to see 2 of my great grandchildren in Illinois. My Granddaughter's family lives 2 1/2 hours away from the airport. Well, things didn't work out right for a relative to take me back to the airport it was my granddaughter's first day of Nursing School. So my daughter bought an Uber for me one week in advance to take me to the airport. She checked at 7:30 that morning it said driver Josh was to pick me up at 8 o'clock. At 7:55am Uber status said "No Driver Available". and I had a 2 1/2 hour ride to Chicago airport to catch a plane back to Utah. Well my damn luck it was -10 degrees below zero & it was too cold for Josh to go to work, I guess. Well, I didn't want to go outside either at -10 below either but, Josh that was your job that you committed to one week ago. I was planning on you to get me there. How dare you cancel 5 minute prior to pickup & leave me in a lurch & no ride to the Chicago airport. Well my luck turned and Illinois Central College cancelled classes due to -10 below zero leaving my Granddaughter & 2 Great Grandchildren able to drive me up to the airport. I am a 70 year old disabled woman who lives in a senior building at 1440 South Indiana. The first driver refused to come in front of my building. I use a walker. He canceled I called again and had to walk a half block with my walker to get a high priced cab ride!!! What happened to servicing and being aware of the American With Disabilities Act. This was a horrifying experience. No man or woman should be mistreated because they are disabled!
