This company discriminates against disabled customers. Checker is one cab company that claims to accept the TAP card for handicapped customers however their dispatchers and certain Cab drivers( Cab#225) will cancel rides last minute and have customers waiting hours even if the customer orders the Cab 4-5 hours early. This company needs to be sued or taken off the TAP program immediately!! read more

He apologized and promised to go over protocol with the driver and said this would be noted in his file. I don't want to hold the whole company accountable for the totally basic violation of common courtesy committed by one driver, so just know that the driver of #1662 is either a total novice or an actual jerk. Contacted Checker Cab on Nov 27, 2021 to schedule a car for the next day. However, changes to my trip required I modify the schedule and get a car earlier than planned. Dispatcher was competent and professional. The car arrived within 3 minutes of my call. (Forgot the number of the car, but the driver was friendly and respectful). LITERALLY THE RUDEST CAB DRIVER I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED! If you use this company, do not get into cab # 5270. A friend and I decided to split a cab home and pick up her boyfriend along the way (literally on the way). We asked the cab to stop for not even two minutes so he could get in the cab and continue to our destinations. We all work in the service industry so we expressed to the cab driver we would tip him graciously for waiting. He told us that it was a busy night and time is money so he simply didn't have time to wait the two minutes to pick someone up. We were completely stunned, asked him how he wasn't making money when he was going to make three different stops, the meter was still running, and he would get tipped much more than average. When he informed us it still wasn't worth his time, I told him that for being so rude I could very well report him to 311. Verbatim he replied " Excuse me? Get the fuck out of my cab you stupid fucking bitch. It's $8 get the fuck out now." I did exactly as I said and promptly called and reported him to 311 as this is the absolute worst I have EVER been treated. If I could rate this company lower than 1 star, I absolutely would. I made the mistake of booking Checker Cab to the airport. Here's what happened: 1. I made the reservation on Sunday night for 7:30 AM the next morning to O'hare. They knew my destination was the airport. 2. At 7:20 I received a message saying my taxi had been dispatched. 3. At 7:35 I received a call saying the taxi was 20 minutes away. I said that this would not be acceptable because it would risk missing my flight. The dispatcher said he would see if he could get something earlier, but at the latest it would be 20 minutes. 4. At 7:36 I immediately called Yellow Cab for a back-up and walked to the corner where I might hail a cab, with my apartment still in sight. 5. At 7:55 I called back wondering where my cab was. They said 15 more minutes. 6. At 8:25 I successfully hailed a cab. 7. At 8:30 both Check and Yellow Cab called saying they had arrived. I missed my 9:05 AM flight and can't get on another flight until 7:30 PM. I'm still sitting at the airport now attempting to get some work done. Had Checker given me accurate information during any step in the process I could have changed plans, taking the Blue Line or driving my own car. Since they lied to me during each call, I'm stuck at the airport for 12 hours and missing a day in the office. read more

I can't remember when I've gotten worse service!!! I called to prebook cab service for a party of 12 a month before an event. I called a week before and a day before to reconfirm. The day of the event only one of two vans showed. I had to flag cabs for the rest of the group. I called the cab company and all I got were vague excuses. An hour before we were to leave our destination to return to the hotel, I called to reconfirm the vans. At the time of our pick up - no vans. I called several times over AN HOUR and got no commitment on when a cab would arrive. Unfortunately, we were in a suburban area where there was no cab traffic for me to flag down cabs. I use Taxi Magic when I know I'm going to need a cab. Don't bother with these guys - I can tell you what will happen. Every time I've called, they tell me the cab will show up in 6-10 minutes. 20-25 minutes later, I inevitably have to call back wondering where the cab is. The dispatcher tries to track down the cab driver and can't find him. We're 30 minutes late for wherever we need to go, and then decide to just cancel the order, and walk out to a busy street to find a cab. Save yourself the trouble. Hot day, husband and i hopped on the cab at o'hare, and the driver had his windows down. The temperature was fine as long as the car was moving. Then half way we encountered the traffic, so we requested the a/c to be turned on. The driver goes "you really the a/c to be turned on?!" My husband and I were driving down Michigan Ave. when we got stuck behind a stopped bus. My husband changed lanes (after checking his mirrors) and pulled in front of a speeding Checker cab. The cab driver was so angry that he not only drove around us to cut us off, but he slammed on his brakes, then pulled into the other lane while we were at a stop light and threw a rock at our car! All the while he's yelling stuff out of his window. It's a good thing our car windows were up and no-one got hurt (we had 2 small children in the backseat). SEAN who answers the phone spoke VERY aggressively me and I am a woman. I am NEVER trying to order a taxi from Checker Cab again as you employ CRIMINALS. The cab driver we had the last time was very courteous & very caring. Seems like a lot of times that's not so with a few other ones.

Checker cab seem to hire a lot of foreigners mostly Indian or Nigerian drivers rarely do you get the eastern European drivers. These drivers are enough to make you want to wear adult diapers because you would pee on yourself from sheer nerves. I found myself having to file a complaint against yet another cab company for reckless driving. It seems as if these cab drivers are not ones to adhere to American law when it comes to driving and that we have no problem taking away privileges...the keyword is PRIVILEGES since driving is not a right. I was driving northbound on Canal Street crossing Van Buren and nearly a half block from Jackson Street when this idiot who was on the far right hand side of the street decides to merge out in traffic shooting across 3 lanes of traffic to go southbound on Canal Street nearly getting t-boned by my car and 3 other cars that were riding in the other lanes plus coming inches from getting t-boned and causing a rear-end collision by a car coming southbound on Canal and barely missing a car coming out of a parking structure who slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting the cab. It was a checker cab that was one of those goofy Scion box type cars. I didnt get a full look at the driver's face, but I got a seconds fast glance and the driver was either Indian or Nigerian. It's amazing how foreigners drive the way they do and not be banned from driving cabs in the city of Chicago. It's important that if you're seeing a cab driving reckless whether you're a pedestrian, driver in another car, or passenger in a cab report their actions to the city and the cab affiliation themselves. This is something that shouldnt be tolerated because it's a safety issue when cab drivers are totally oblivious to other cars and even people on the street. read more

Absolutely terrible. They charge you for every 1/10th of a mile at 25 cents. If you drive 2 miles you will pay 10 dollars. 4 dollars default plus a 2 dollar fee for every passenger and a lot more for every mile. Never use this nervous. Walk home. It is worth it over this service. read more

On Monday May 18th, 2015 - my friends and I (professional 40+ year olds) waved down Checker Cab number 3579 at 160 N. Franklin in front of Tradition. The time was around 7:15 PM. Once we entered the cab, and informed the driver that we had three local stops (all heading north, the farthest being Irving Park Road off the lake front). The driver informed us that he would have to restart the meter for each leg of the trip in order to obtain the additional surcharge. If I could give half a star I would. I ordered a cab for a guest in my home. It was ordered at 11.45 pm Fri.,06 for a 4:30 am pick up to Chicago O'Hare. At 4:15 we received a call, automated, that there were no cabs available. Were we interested in waiting for the next car in an hour? Hardly. Luckily we punted & made new arrangements. i will start by saying wednesday, 11/25/2015, at 830a will be the LAST time i use checker cab; i've used them in the past and never had a problem with them; i called them wednesday to take me a short distance from a rental company on wabash to a car repair facility still on wabash; the dispatch worked fine; the problem started when they sent the most rude, vile, disrespectful, unappreciative, unprofessional cab driver i have ever encountered in my whole life; he spoke to me terribly and refused to let me enter a cab with a purse, a computer bag, a sweater and an 11 lb terrier; i cannot impress upon anyone the rudeness and unprofessionalism of this driver; while this cab driver was yelling at me i called his dispatch back and they informed me that i neglected to tell them i had a dog with me and they would send him a message to let me in the cab with the dog sitting in my lap; at this point, i would not risk my life with this angry, aggressive driver; no telling what would have happened to me if i actually got in the cab; they dispatcher sent that driver away and informed me they would send another one but that driver took too long so i walked to the repair facility; my family and friends had just recommended that i try uber but i tried to go the conventional route; needless to say, i will be using other means of transportation and NEVER checker cab again read more

I needed a cab when i arrived at Midway Airport Tuesday morning. A CHECKER CAB was flagged down for me . I told the driver that I was going to the westside of town . He could have taken Cicero ,or jumped on 55 South . OH NO !! He got on at 55N going toward downtown. I told him -- You are going the wrong way , where are you going. He said " he was taking 55N to the Eisenhower because it was faster . So taking me out of the way would have been faster? I asked him to turn around ,he said he would turn off the meter & i just pay the flat rate of $35.00 . Now it only cost me $22.00 to get to Midway . After he turned around and i finally got home it costed me $29.25 , which was still to much money .I told him I didn't think Ishould pay that much because he took me out of the way ,and gave him $25.00 and told him I was going to report him .
