Worthless for accessible rides. Waited 20 minutes to get a wheelchair van- no response. I'm going g to quit them

I am a 70 year old disabled woman who lives in a senior building at 1440 South Indiana. The first driver refused to come in front of my building. I use a walker. He canceled I called again and had to walk a half block with my walker to get a high priced cab ride!!! What happened to servicing and being aware of the American With Disabilities Act. This was a horrifying experience. No man or woman should be mistreated because they are disabled! I'm going to be sure to write to the appropriate government agency and make them aware that Uber does not recognize the Americans With Disabilities Act in Chicago! read more

This morning I woke up to find A 9.99 charge in charge on my bank account only 18 months from my last Uber ride. I have no idea how long this has been going on wing on I know for at least 3 months when I looked into my bank. On top of it all this started when some ignorant driver named Islam decided he was going to drop me off 20 blocks from my intended destination on 87th street. Just because something in the stupid system told him that's where I wanted to go, I wanted to be at 87th street near my school not near a hospital. He drove all the way from a 103rd up to 55th Garfield and back down to 63rd street it's breed rather than just going straight to 87th because of your ignorant system No one has ever called me or tried to explain this nightmare. IT WAS DIFFICULT TO KNOW EXACTLY WHAT WAS GOING ON TOO BECAUSE HE EITHER HAD HIS GIRLFRIEND OR ANOTHER PASSENGER IN THE BACKSEAT WITH ME. THE SYSTEM DOESN'T SHOW ME WHERE EVERYONE IS GOING. ADDITIONALLY,, UNTIL THIS JERK, FORCED ME OUT OF THE CAR, TO "PICK UP ANOTHER FARE." MY PHONE WAS SHOWING MY CORRECT DESTINATION! And now your stupid app is only giving me this comment that it's beyond 30 days I don't care if it's beyond 300 days you people at Uber deserve the kind of wrath that I'm gonna guarantee you receive because this information is now going on Google Yelp and every other place I can figure out where to put it until I get all my money refunded from this stupid 9.99 charge and that fee that you charge me for that ignorant ride. Luckily I was on 63rd street 3rd street and I could walk over to the red line, but I should never have had to. On top of that, this rude Islam driver of yours had the goal to tell me to get out of his car because he had to go pick up another passenger rather than even have the decency to drive me back to the red line when he didn't even follow the proper route to where I was heading. And there was another passenger in the car. Since that date on January 30th or 31st of 2020 I have never and will never use your service. As of this morning, my wife and I have both removed all payment cards and Uber has no authorization to charge anything to any of our accounts, none whatsoever! I vacationed in Chicago in September. I continually had problems with my Uber requests. On this request, the driver got lost and told me to cancel the request. I canceled the request. Uber billed me for three drivers. In addition to that, after waiting for the first driver, the street I was on was closed because of an Hispanic Heritage event going on; therefore, no subsequent drivers could have arrived to pick me up. Finally, he pulled up, stayed in dead centre middle of cross street intersection with his car parked sideways so nobody could get past him, locked his doors, pointed to my service dog and shook his finger to motion "no". Ordered an Uber. Driver was late and sent a message saying he couldn't find my location (they've picked me up countless times at same address!). I received a 2nd message that another driver was coming 10 min. after pick-up, at which point the 2nd driver cancelled on me. I got charged 25.00 for 'cancelling,' despite not cancelling. When I called the phone number for customer service, it was a recorded message indicating to go to the on-line help site. They don't have a live person responding on-line. It's all automated. Meh!? Gah! I used Uber to get around Chicago a bunch. It's not as easy as they make it out to be in the app. Especially if you get the cheap-o way to get around. Jeesh- it was like last call at the bars, we get an uber to get to the other side of the Loop, and we get driven past the same street corner two other times as we made other rides, turning a 20 minute ride into an hour long chore. Uber just recently added an option to book a taxi and the rate usually cheaper than the regular price. Every time I attempted to book it, it was unavailable due to a "busy time". Everytime ia a busy time. What is the point? It only wastes my time waiting for a taxi for 10+ minutes to end up booking regular Uber fair anyway. Uber in Chicago has become much more expensive than regular taxis. An off hours trip from my house to my son's house cost 6 dollars and change two years ago, and that same trip has ranged from $24-$28 now. It's one mile! The pricing is absurd. I know that gas prices are up, and maybe that could add fifty cents to the cost of a 1 mile trip, and the city has added a small fee of about $1, but a 400% increase is beyond absurd. I rely on uber to get to and from work as I canntot drive due to a disability. This morning I was charged $33 (not including type) because Uber was busy. I should not have to pay that much to go four miles, when I am pretty sure that a majority of that money is NOT going to the driver. Also, when you try to get help on a ride, it is impossible to get ahold of a person, and they only want to hear feedback about the driver, not the company. The driver refused to take us all the way to our destination because "we were being rude". Wr were not talking and used no profanity nor did we raise our voice at any time. Due to an emergency, I had to ask the driver to take me back to the original pickup location after only riding for one block. The driver pretended to be nice and understanding. Next day I check my receipt and I was charged for the full 11 mile trip - EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T GO ON THE FULL TRIP. I tried every which way to get in contact with customer service to get this sorted out and it's been 3 days and I still can't get a hold of anyone AT ALL. Honestly, I preferred when taxis where the only option. These kinds of problems wouldn't happen with taxis. Just because you get picked up in a slightly cleaner car with no taxi markings doesn't mean the Uber driver is a better person or the experience will be better. Pre arranged and confirmed a 9:00a pickup from University Chicago to O'Hare. First a delay message AFTER the scheduled pickup time. Then a second, and then a third. Then a cancelation. Well, Uber used to be cheaper than cabs... then, they started charging more than cabs from the airport at certain times. The service is no better than a cab. In both cases, they want the fare to be done with so that they can take the next fare. And cabs have flat fares between cities and the airport. There is no meter. So when a flat fare is $45 for a cab, and $71 for Uber, you start wondering. But my complaint does not stop there. More and more Uber drivers have started asking about the destination right after accepting the request and before they start moving to pick you up. If they don't like the answer, they cancel. And you just wasted time. But that does not give them any money. It's just convenience. The next trick that is happening more and more: A driver accepts a fare, but does not go anywhere. If you cancel, you have to pay a fee, and then fight with Uber to get your money back. Or they accept the fare when they have not dropped off their current fare. Tons of time wasted. Uber does not protect the customers. They don't care about customers. In fact, when you go to their website, there is no way to contact them. They probably had a customer service line to contact them in the past, but considering the crappy service I've received not long ago, and how things are going south, I would probably remove that phone number too. I feel bad for the good drivers out there, those that are serious about giving a good service. But that is the difference about Uber and a cab: with Uber, every driver is on their own, not caring about the next. With cabs, they make sure that their business does not go under. They have no choice but to have a decent customer service, or they will lose their business. And if there is a bad apple in their midst, I don't think that driver will last very long. I travel for business a lot and need transportation all the time. I've stopped using Uber. I think I will try Lyft eventually, but then it will depend on the quality of their customer service. Worst customer service model I have seen in my 49 years on the planet. Called for a an Uber to take me to a dinner meeting this evening, he asked me to meet him at a Main Street. We agreed to meet at a specific intersection. He never showed up after telling me he was already there. I tried by text to get clarification as to where he actually was and he wouldn't respond. I called his cell twice and he wouldn't pick up. Then randomly canceled on me for no reason. No communication. Then, Uber has no customer service AT ALL. I had to go to Twitter to contact them. My husband and I had a package delivery. At the arrival time i waited out front as always. No driver. I start getting calls from but it was so garbled i couldnt hear word. I screamed into the phone that he was in the wrong place to no avail. I then tried calling him and got his voice mail. We spent all afternoon and evening tracking him down at which point he admitted he was in alley in the wrong place. Rather than deliver the next day he took it to Uber Lost and Found. We have had to send written descriptiobs of our package even tho the driver could have clearly tied it to us as the customer. Then they claim we are using the wrong email for the account which is untrue and we sent them written proof about that. It is now 4 days after the driver screwed up and Uber has gone silent with no mechanism online or by phone to reach anyone and it appears we may lose the 275$ item in our package. Terrible. My receipt from my Uber ride from O'Hare Airport to hotel 1-19-21 indicates the charge was $39.07. Yet my credit card statement (on line) indicates several additional Uber charges: $6.07 $5.00 $5.00 $3.00 $1.00 $5.86 Secondly: I was charged a $5 cancellation charge on 1-21-21. I placed the order for a 5:30 a.m. ride as I needed to be at O'Hare by 6:30 am. I could tell the request was "delivered" and "read" yet the driver never replied (didn't call me) nor let me know he was on the way. I could see on the Uber app that his car was NOT moving. I ABSOLUTELY HAD to make it to the airport on time to make my flight ($700 for 2 airline tickets). Cancelled the 1st request after almost a 45 minute wait and placed another Ride request which wasn't delivered nor was it read. By now I'm in panic mode. At 5:15 a.m. my daughter ordered for a ride using her phone. She was able to secure a ride for us (Uber) which arrived promptly and we made it to the airport on time. This is crap. I can't call Uber to file a complaint and unfortunately, I don't remember my username/PW. Uber wants me to subscribe to some service to talk to Uber on line live. BS!!! WTH? SERIOUSLLY? I have only used Uber twice, both in the Chicago area. My first was a very good ordeal and worked out well for me but this second was NOT. If this trip had been first, I would never use the service again. My first service was from Homewood, IL to Gary IN and it was very pleasant. The driver came in his very clean car, asked if he could play his native African music or if I wanted something else or quiet. I enjoyed listening to his music and having a little chit chat back and forth. I enjoyed it so much that I started talking to my colleagues about it and suggested they use it too. I even talked to my kids about using it at home if they needed a ride. So when I came back to O'hare and found that a driver had not been reserved for me through my vendor, it was very natural for me to try Uber again. I had already looked at the approx fee which stated it would be around $50 to $60. When I used my app, I was told to go up to the departures to meet the driver. Why would I go up to Departure, all the taxi's and pick ups are at the arrival level but to make things easy, I complied. As I get to where he told me to be, I don't see the car; so I call. He tells me he had to go around and would be back in a few minutes. 20 minutes later a taxi pulls up. I explain "are you my Uber driver?" When tells me that he is, I mention that I am surprised because Uber competes with taxi's. He said that they have a contract. The first thing I see is that he puts the meter on. I think, well I am not going to save money on this ride, he has the meter on. I could have stayed downstairs and used one of the many taxis in line. Imagine my shock when we pull up in front of the hotel and my driver pulls out a little booklet and tells me that I WILL BE PAYING 50% ABOVE THE METER RATE OF $69.85! WTF!!!! IF YOU ARE IN CHICAGO, DO NOT USE UBER FOR A TAXI!!!!. I ask him why he did not tell me this information until the end of the trip when I HAD asked before we took off. He said that there is a difference between Uber and I should have used UberX. Well I go back onto my app AND I DO NOT SEE ANYTHING FOR UBER. ONLY UBER X OR UBER SUV or Black car or something. I find the UberX app is difficult to use and believe it is somewhat done on purpose. For example, after I got billed I learned that the default tip rate is 20% but I could change it. WHY CAN WE NOT ADD IT AT THE TIME OF THE DRIVE? I use my Starbucks app to pay for my coffee and tip my barista. They are a coffee company; UBER IS A SOFTWARE COMPANY AND THEY CAN'T ADD A TIP AT THE END OF THE RIDE!!! Also, try to find out how to change the default tip amount on the app. I cant find it. IS THAT ACCEPTABLE FOR A SOFTWARE COMPANY? I had to log onto my laptop and even then it was difficult to do. No help on the Uber site, had to go to Google and ask the question. I don't know if I will use the app again. I like the thought of the program but I think Uber, for being a software company can do much better to be transparent on their app and website.
