We walked in for a late lunch at 2:30 pm. The staff was very welcoming. The restaurant is not big but it wasn't busy at the time. Prices were reasonable. We ordered the most popular poutine, the gaston medium size. It came with minced steak, onions, sausages, cheese curds, fries, and gravy. I had poutine before in Illinois and I thought it was mid, nothing worth going back for. The Canadian version is way better. The cheese curds taste different than the ones in Illinois and Wisconsin. It was soft and went well with the housemade gravy. The meat and onions were fresh. The fries were soft and not too soggy. The flavor of the whole thing was superb. It's weird that the American versions of other countries' food always taste subpar and off.

Have these people never had a burger before? There's nothing wrong with the burgers here, but there's also nothing right about them. They're burgers. Meat, bread, lettuce, sauces..yep. It's a burger. And it's okay. Bland and by-the-book to a fault. It tasted liked they perfected the art of having minimal flavors and ingredients, as if they were weighing the taste of each in a highly technical way. I forgot I even went here by the next day and was only reminded by pictures I took. It's basically the Quebecois version of whatever one step up from an Applebee's would be, but with a premium price tag and hype. Any other burger in town would probably be just as good if not better. Side was pretty bad. Basically burnt tofu. Service was lacking, but there. I was tended to in the most basic 'there's another table to get through' way possible. Check took a long time to get to me and I ended up just walking up to the counter. Not sure why. There weren't a lot of people there. Tons of seating and a pretty nice view, although that's hard to not have in Quebec City. Can't recommend it with so many other options and delicacies not all that far away. I was curious about the classic poutine but when I saw the Mexican poutine on the menu, I knew I had to try it. It was so incredibly delicious! We tried the India which was a butter chicken sauce with chicken and mushrooms. It was a fun dish with good flavor gravy. Odd choice to me to put mushrooms in it since I've never had butter chicken with mushrooms. The Chicken was thin sliced, I was expecting more like chunks. Regardless this was a solid 4 in my book. We also tried the Hat Trick which is basically a three meat poutine with bacon, ground beef and hot dogs. This was also solid, not as unique, but good. Probably a 3.75. we ordered the mega sized for both, which made the 2 dishes enough food for 3-4 people depending how hungry you are. We wanted the leftovers. The down side to this experience was the service. The place was nearly empty. The server passed us with a pitcher of water in have and didn't even fill the glasses. When we ordered a diet Pepsi instead of getting a fountain drink we got it in a can (both options were in the menu, fountain was cheaper), why not ask us if not sure what we want? At the end we waited a while to see the server and instead just ended up asking the hostess for our to-go containers. Nothing horrible, just meh. The takeaway, pretty good poutine with not so hot service.

I got a poutine with onions and the number of onions was absolutely overwhelming...like I ordered two onions with cheese, fries, and gravy. I couldn't believe how many onions were on it. My wife had a basic poutine and it was much better, just nothing super, super special. The interior decor is like stepping back into 80's, but is beat to hell. Gangsta rap pumping throughout isn't really my thing either, lol. Doubtful that I'd go back.

The veggies were fresh and the dressing was tasty. My favorite thing was the mocktails, I got the sunset and it was so good, perfect combo of sweet and tart from the grapefruit! This place is one of the reasons I like Québec so much!…read more Deep dish pizza omg so good. It's where they layer on the meat in thin slices so you can see it in a cross-section of each slice. Yeah, there's the tangy sauce at the bottom and no bare spots, No! it's a substantial amount so no unpleasant dryness ensues. Then there is a layer of meat, and I got a couple meats to make sure I got my protein in, one of which was Montreal smoked meat, oh boy it's so good! Then comes the melted cheese on top, and an overall garnishing of peppers or what-have-you veggie-wise on top of all that. I usually refer this style of pizza as Greek-style rather than Italian-style, which is what we usually get in Toronto. From what I've experienced, the Greek-style pizza is more popular across Canada compared to Toronto's own penchant for the Italian thin-crust style of 'za. The last time I went to Mélimélo, I was staying up the street at the cutest cheap motel ever! This time I was camping out nearby, but both times I indulged in one of these pies and enjoyed every bit of it. Check out my pics and see how it is over an inch thick. If you order one, keep that in mind as you don't need the usual large pizza for yourself, which is normally mostly crust. These pies are more like lasagna where there is depth rather than breadth to it, and each bite counts! Unbelievably good the next morning for breakfast, cold form the fridge with none of that dry burnt crustiness that makes half the pizza inedible. Enjoy the rest with a cold beer for lunch, and the fun never stops!
