Though Dr. Kane was nice enough the service after STINKS! I got a cortisone shot in my hand and they suggested a hand brace. I wanted it but insurance had to approve. It almost exactly a month later and there had been NO COMMUNICATION AT ALL! I had to end up driving to the office!!! Unreal... it took nine days to give it to the referral people and it was approved on the 7th and again I HEARD NOTHING. So now they gave me some address to go pick up. I called the company called HANGAR, and you don't pick it up. You have to make an appointment in order to pick up your brace. Mine is a simple hand brace that I could buy online. I've never had such ridiculousness in my life. So obviously, Dr. Kane's office doesn't even know what's going on at this Hangar place, but they refer people!! They said nothing about me needing an appointment. Done with this group. read more

The doctors in this office are good, the receptionists however and the referral process is the biggest nightmare. They are so quick to cancel and reschedule your appointments, and will take forever to make referrals out. I also have never received a call back when I have asked for telehealth appointments instead of an in person visit. I have been waiting for over 45 minutes and still haven't been called. (Update, waited for over an hour and decided to leave!) This office has definitely tested my patience and it's sad because the doctors are pretty good. Another thing, they are not accommodating to late appointment times. read more

I'm so sorry I ever went to this Doctor. He convinced me that I needed a knee replacement and I'm so sorry I trusted him and went through with the surgery. It will be two years this September, and all I have had is pain in the knee. I tried to book a appointment with him but he wanted to charge me $250.00 to talk to him about the botched up job he did on me. Don't trust this Doctor. All he cares about is making money. He has left me handicapped and in tremendous pain. read more

Dr. Kane is a good doctor, but his staff is the worst!!! Dr. Kane's staff never checked the companies they referred me to for home physical therapy and a CPM machine to make sure they were in-network, and it is two days before my surgery still not figured out. Also, two days before my surgery Dr. Kane's surgery scheduler called me to ask if my Cardiologist ever sent a letter to Dr. Kane authorizing the go ahead with my surgery because the surgery center needs that before surgery could take place. The surgery center just happened to call me to go over things and I sent the Cardiologist letter directly to them as I couldn't rely on Dr. Kane's staff to do that. Dr. Kane's surgery scheduler changed during all this, so the previous surgery scheduler never relayed any information to the person who took over for her. You really have to keep on top of things because Dr. Kane's staff doesn't do their job you have to, as they are always putting calls on hold in the office so they can look at their cell phones and get coffee. read more

I had total should replacement surgery done by Dr. Kane back in 2008 after a body surfing accident. My upper humerus was shattered as well part of the hollow bone structure. It never healed properly and I was in constant pain. At one point not longer after the surgery, he prescribed a high dose of Naproxen for pain which was a horrible thing to do since he knew I had serious kidney damage. Apparently he did not even think about my medical history because I ended up with kidney failure as the result of his mismanagement. Several years later, I developed an infection at the site where I had broken my shoulder. I had to have the entire thing taken down and had another shoulder repair done by Dr. Andrew Hartman who did a wonderful job. After this surgery, I no longer had pain in my shoulder. He did make a mistake when he put a drain in my shoulder after the surgery because when the nurse tried to pull it out (which should have been the case) she discovered it was sewn in and I had to go back for a short surgery to have the stitch removed!! Not great. read more

I've been seeing Dr Kane for a long time. Over 20 years. While it was fortuitous that I ran across him for knee assistance you don't want to go anywhere else. Just a quick story. I went into surgery expecting a minor knee replacement.....if there is such a thing. What the Doc found would have scared every other doctor I know to close me up in fear. Dr Kane not only fixed me but I went on to performing and playing as I had before. It isn't arrogance or a know it all attitude he possesses. It is his true caring for his patients. I'll not go anywhere else for my legs other than to Dr Kane. And all I can say to him is thanks. He expects no more. read more

Loved Dr Kane His office was well staffed with covid protection, masks etc. I have seen another ortho prior. Dr. Kane was an expert on knee, foot and leg issues. He demonstrated everything that was going on and the remedies he could offer. He was honest and forthright, answered every question offered some things that would help without trying to push me non insurance approved "PRP "treatments that many orthopedics push! Expensive and not medically proven significant that I researched. He is ordering MRI, loved that he had an Xray machine conveniently in his office! Great doc and would highly recommend him. He gave me the choices and asked what I would like to do . Also helped my fiancee that had a rotator cuff tear . He is starting with conservative care so not thrown into surgery unless highly needed at some point. Most surgeons push surgery or expensive PRP blood spin I liked that he started slowly and not about just $$$$. He knows his stuff! 5 star or more Joy read more

I had an ACL reconstruction surgery with Dr Kane. He was very reassuring before the surgery and told me I would be able to walk within a week of the surgery. I struggled for a bit after the surgery but listened to his advice and followed the post-op instructions. Sure enough within a week I was pretty much walking again, with the help of crutches now and then. Dr Kane knows what he's talking about and I'm glad I went to see him for my knee problems. read more

Outstanding doctor, didn't keep me waiting any more than 5 min. - diagnosed me quickly and on my way to a speedy recovery. Oh, and really nice! read more

After being mis-diagnosed by Dr Kane who seemingly lost interest in my wife's injuries, she required serious surgery to reattach form severed tendons in her left hand. Thank you for the additional pain and angst that may not have occurred if she was taken care of appropriately when she first sought treatment from Dr. Kane. Stay away. read more

Dr. Kane replaced my knee. At the time he agreed to do so my knee was inflamed, red, extremely sore and hot to the touch. My white cell count was 10 times normal. These are all indications of infection. Yet he did not do the standard "c reactive protein" test which would have confirmed the infection. Instead he went ahead with the surgery, my knee was infected, and I had to have two more complete knee replacements. Run, don't walk, away from this guy. read more

UPDATED: Lots of experience. This doctor took the time to explain the intricacies of the knee with a model and even showed me an instrument that he was going to use to trim the meniscus. His diagnosis was that I had bucket handle torn meniscus and a completely torn ACL. UPDATE PART- A completely torn ACL is major surgery. I went to another doctor for a second opinion. The second doctor told me the same thing about the meniscus, BUT told me my ACL was loose and it looks like I need a surgery to replace it while Kane told me that I no longer had one at all because it was completely torn and that the ligament dissolved. After getting two different diagnoses, I went to a THIRD doctor. The third doctor told me the same thing about my meniscus and that my ACL was a little loose and there was a ten percent chance that I had to have my ACL replaced. I ended up going with the third doctor. He took care of my meniscus and after the surgery told me that my ACL did not have to be touched and that he would hope that a replacement ACL would be as tight as my own ACL though my ACL was a little loose. I am glad I came across this third doctor. Otherwise, I would still be going through therapy and not be able to do sports yet. An ACL surgery would be hell and I walked out of the surgery for my meniscus. Its been five months since the surgery and the knee is ok and I have been playing sports! Lesson - always get a copy of your MRI report and read it. always get a second opinion. read more

Came into the office by the suggestion of my insurance and I'm glad I did! Went in with shoulder pain from an injury and wanting relief and a solution and that's what I got! The ladies at the front were so nice and helpful and Dr. Norman Kane and his assistants were thorough. Needed an MRI before we could find a better solution, but he gave me a cortisone shot to relieve the pain. So happy I chose this office! read more

The office is located in the middle of the hospital which is kind of hard to find & you have to pay $4 for parking!! But other then that i thought Dr Kane was great doctor. I was seeing him for a second opinion for a knee injury and he gave me 3 more options then my original doctor. He seemed very experienced, educated with a great personality. read more

I called this doctor's office at 8 this morning August 3rd and could not have been more pleasantly satisfied with how my situation was handled. They got me in immediately for tendonitis in my right hand. I was in excruciating pain. I got a cortisone injection which was painless by dr. Kane and I was out of the office in less than an hour from start to finish. I've never encountered being a new patient somewhere so seamlessly. I would highly rate the office, staff, facility , and most of all doctor Norman Kane, everyone was on their A-game !!!!! Thank you read more

Dr. Kane is my Hero!!!! I was crippled in my left leg for 5 years! I went to surgeon after surgeon all refusing to do my surgery because of the extent of damage!! Dr. Kane was my last Hope I was ready to throw the towel in! Dr Kane accepted me as his patient and in no time I was on the operating table.. I was released from the hospital a day and a half later and I was walking with crutches. Two days later I was walking with none! The surgery was so successful !! Dr. Kane did a marvelous job on my leg. He performed a total knee replacement and I have to say this Doctor gave me my life back!!! In my eyes Dr. Kane is a miracle worker!!! It has been 6 weeks almost to the day and I had a minor complication w swelling but he got me into his office for 4 days straight to monitor my minor issue!! He is a wonderful caring man besides a fantastic surgeon.. I give kudos to Dr. Kane and his staff along with the staff at Scripps Hospital in Encinitas.. I wasn't a very good patient in the hospital because of the frustration of getting to this point w other doctors and the Staff was wonderful to me at Scripps. And together they gave me my life back! Thank you all for your excellent care. Kathleen Kittle P.S..... my dog survived!!!! Lol read more

Two terrible things about this guy, equally as bad. 1) He gave me less than two minutes of his time and wouldn't listen to me. He rushed me out of his office and told me I needed an MRI without listening to any of my explanations or symptoms (it was so fast I was under the 15 minute free parking limit). 2) After being told both on the phone and in person that he took my insurance I got a bill for $500 because they lied and do not take my insurance. I will never go to him again. Didn't care to listen to me and ripped me off. First bad review I have ever given on Yelp. read more

Dr. Kane did a debridement and decompression in my right shoulder due to severe pain. His procedure did nothing for my problem. He said that my tendon was torn worse than expected and did not repair it because it went beyond the scope of the agreed procedure. After consulting with another surgeon, it was determined that I had a full rotator cuff tendon tear. The second surgeon took nearly 2 hours to repair it. I have fully recovered. I would recommend against seeing Dr. Kane. read more

After my husband has had two epic failed surgeries with Dr Kane, I can honestly say do not trust this Doctor. Please, get a second opinion! My husband shattered his radius bone and went to Dr Kane for the surgery. In his own words he told us that he was going to stick the bone back together with "putty" and attach a metal plate to the bone to hold it together. The bone never healed and the plate ended up snapping inside his arm. We went to numerous other Doctors and surgeons who took x rays and were appalled at what they saw, as were we. Dr Kane had not even put the bone back in place but had left it as a large mass of fragments that he seemed to just glue together. 2 different doctors told us that the metal plate had snapped as it was for a hip joint and the wrong plate to use for the arm. We found a highly recommended and highly regarded surgeon who specialized in the arm and hand. He was also appalled with what had been done and very carefully explained that as they had to re open the scar tissue in such a fragile place, so close to the nerve, that my husband could loose the use of his hand. Thankfully, he had the surgery and regained almost all of his movement. The new x rays were not a pile of shattered bone fragments in a ball, but rather the whole bone had been placed back together piece by piece and finally looked like a normal bone again. All in all, my husband lost a year and a half of work (as he is in construction) and it cost us a lot more money that it ever should have. Not to mention the ACL and meniscus surgery he performed on my husband when he was 19 that also never healed. I do not want to write this to complain but really to warn others. I wish that I had read a review like this and that we had researched a better surgeon in the first place. One that specializes in a specific area of the body. Then we wouldn't have lost so much time and money. Please take this review into account. We learned a very important lesson and i hope I can help someone from making the same mistake. read more

Dr Kane was my second opinion doctor. the first one told me i didnt need surgery at all and that i should just do physical therapy and i should heal fine. After some MRIs Dr kane notified me that i had completely destroyed my ACL and LCL, which is probably why i couldnt walk. My injury was sever and i needed surgery right away. Dr Kane performed the surgery and here i am 5 months later and back to work. I am a firefighter for the city of Oceanside. although i am still on light duty i have no pain I have full range of motion abndd getting stronger everyday. I am athletic and am also a crossfit trainer. After my surgery I am still able to work out and expected to have no lasting deficits from my injury which is all i really care about. Sure, time with the doc is short, but he has a lot of patients. i make sure to be ready with questions before i see him and i have yet to be dissapointed. great doctor great surgeon great outcome. couldnt be happier. read more
