Multiple myeloma:…read more There are a lot of questions that need to be answered by the tests. But that will unfold smoothly. I am a very lucky man to be on this voyage to to be cured of blood cancer/Multiple myelom at San Diego Scripps Grreen hospital, the best hospital that I've ever been in, not that i've ever been in a "Four Seasons resort" Medicare Hospital Supplement. Reportedly, an 85% chance of full remission in the U.S. for Multiple myeloma. That includes everybody in the world no matter what condition they are or their age. I believe that percentage is likely higher because of this Green hospital, the top notch doctors & nurses who selectively work there, and my attitude to have fun while I succeed. Foremost, the "food is to order" and medical service by everyone is fantastic. I've been on "order first"/" sight-unseen" steroids aggressively fighting this for a number of days before I even check in. Oncologist Dr. Bryan Pham was the initial point Doctor for me and is one of the many All-Star gurus of the team. He sat down and hugged me. He knew exactly what to do from the beginning. I love him. On my very first visit to Dr. Pham, he did a bone marrow biopsy. It did not hurt too bad because everything was numbed before the procedure and until the first night. That night was the most painful night of my life once the numbness wore off. That's okay though because they have meds so you survive. I was never worried. Before he stuck the needle into me, he asked me what kind of music I wanted to hear ("Mr. Chin," by the beloved albino Jamaican legend Yellowman" who survived jaw bone cancer in the face) so the biopsy would be relaxing.. Dr. Pham thankfully fast-tracked everything. The wizard, the genius, head hancho Dr. Dimitrios Tzachanis, MD, PhD, magically runs things. "Dr. T" makes you feel you are so fortunate to be among such a mystic, amazing grasp of the overall medical effects and chronological steps. Dr. Michaela Miller "Doctor of the Month" is primarily among other Superwomen doctors who all work with each other and make sure that you get successful anytime treatment and any necessary appointment on the spot at the hospital as soon as possible; it doesn't matter what time of day or night. Noor Qaddour, DO, and Bijan Roshan, MD, carefully show up with hands on in places you nay not think, e.g. lab, kidneys. More necessary checks and balances! There are so many good doctors and nurses, I'm blown away. There are so many top notched medical specialists, I don't know where to stop. They know who they are. They work at Scripps. They are my heroes. Of course, I would have never got here without my wonderful wife or cat. My cat Butters saved my life. Over a week ago I was petting my cat. Then he decided to pick up the love by digging his claws into my wrist, which resulted in a blood poisonous bruise which was clearly infected ( visible to my wife), leading to an emergency room trip to a Motel Six style hospital / hotel. When we walked in, a man was yelling that a truck ran over his foot. I was messed up; I needed to switch hospitals. Everything was properly addressed at Scripps. I have been and will be continuously treated until cured. I have a very positive and fun attitude, a must. I have simply continued to do as told. I have Multiple myeloma (requiring apx. 7 radiation treatments) plus easy-to-do chemotherapy, treatment of cancer lesions in the back, possible bloodclots (which is why I wear compression socks and take a blood thinner, improved kidneys, and important procedures of anything needed on every level. We're winning. It's not gonna be easy or a quick fix. Good things in life take work and time. No pain no gain. The Doctors feel good about where we are now. I am extremely satisfied and feel blessed. I can't say enough. They really care about their 1st class "modern medicine" treatments. The doctor came in and thanked us for being good patients. The doctor always looks at my wonderful wife because he knows she is the one he can trust. She is spearheading this positive direction. I am trying to have fun. If I could just make one person laugh every day. I will.

Dr. Mundus amazing and some wonderful nursing staff…read more Some floor nurses and aids great- some not as good and some aides not as good. A Pre-op nurse horrible and hit an arterial radial artery and nerve instead of a vein for an IV start that caused a hand injury in dominant hand- not a great way to start any mobility post op when I could not use dominant hand for bed mobility or gait with walker or grab bar use- around toilet and all. Case Management team on the floor horrible and did not set up critical home health services as needed. I needed blood draws for follow up for low hemoglobin and such and case management team dismissive with very poor follow through or accountability! Took Home health over 4 days to set up a critical blood draw that lead me to have to go to urgent care after waiting 3 days instead. If Case Management not going to do their job- then do not have on patient floors! I have worked in patient care and this is worst case management I have ever witnessed! I still am waiting to see if their lack of follow thru has impacted my health along with injury caused by preop nurse.

He is just such a sweet guy too. Very humble and cordial. He is upfront, tells you what to expect upfront and actually see you himself for aftercare and check ups. His team is also fantastic. Caring and they keep everyone up to date on whats happening when your person gets out of surgery, what to expect and what to do. Just all around you feel that everyone is in the best hands. Hands down, I would recommend him every time and I actually do every time someone asks me about a surgeon here, as I also work in the Medical field.

Dr. Berenter is the best! How do I know? I had a bunionectomy 35 yrs ago when I was 35 years old…read more I was in pain for almost a year, and couldn't wear anything but tennis shoes ( I was an executive at the time, my boss thought I was milking it a bit) when the same foot, 30 plus years later started hurting again, I thought, oh my gosh, I can't go thru this again, the pain is too much at 67, I am very active however, walk 5 miles every day so I was referred to Dr. Berenter. My 1st question was "has this surgery changed in 30 plus years? AND told him my story", his reply was "no, but you will not be in that kind of pain, if much at all"! Max 2 weeks in a boot and then back into shoes. Well, I wanted to believe him but really didn't. I have had a number of surgeries in my 70 years, and this is the only one I remember like it was yesterday. I knew I had to proceed, low and behold I don't even think I took 1 pain pill. In a week I told him I was ready to get back to my life and he said, "not so fast, you need to wear the boot at least another week, so you don't mess up what I did". Oh darn! I did and have never had a problem since. He also saw my left foot, as it too had a big bunion, but said, "until you are in pain", let's leave it alone. 3 years later, I am now in pain (it's not a pain you forget). I went to see Dr. Berenter and said it's time. He x-rays my foot and says, let's book it. I am going in next week for my surgery and not concerned a bit because I know he is the best and have referred many people to him in my senior community. The only thing that would be better is if his office was up in our neck of the woods. LOL

I self diagnosed the problem and went to an oncologist who confirmed my suspicion and had radiation therapy. That solved the problem luckily. If I hadn't been proactive, he wouldn't have given me the proper care.
