As a Black woman, I felt deeply let down and mistreated by this practice. After my daughter had a breast reduction here (with mixed results, it went well, but her breast was not the B cup she requested), I decided to undergo a breast reduction with nipple graft myself, emphasizing to Dr. Stevenson right before my $20,000 surgery that symmetry and size (A cup) were my top priorities. What followed was a nightmare! Despite diligently following all post-operative instructions, I experienced severe bleeding and delayed wound healing. The nipple graft was an absolute catastrophe. I was left with severely scarred, unevenly sized, and horrifically discolored breasts. What was briefly mentioned as a potential for hyperpigmentation turned into a disfiguring reality. When the discoloration failed to resolve after several months, I contacted Dr. Stevenson's office. This is where the unprofessionalism truly began. I was subjected to at least THREE separate, billable VIRTUAL appointments to address concerns that should have been handled without additional fees. During an in-office consultation, Dr. Stevenson led me to believe that insurance approval for a revision surgery was a sure thing, promising a correction of the damage and a boost to my self-esteem. This turned out to be a cruel charade. After initial confusion and misinformation from her (now former) administrative assistant, it became clear that Tricare had denied the request, initially approving only injections that should have been administered immediately after the initial surgery. Another billable virtual appointment with Dr. Stevenson led to a plan to resubmit the request after a 90-day waiting period. When I asked about alternative options, she suggested plastic surgery to "fill in the discolored areas" or a procedure to "cut out the discolored areas" in her office, and then had the audacity to charge me for the latter, claiming it wasn't "minor." Skeptical that Tricare would approve a second breast reduction so soon after the first, I reluctantly waited. Her office failed to follow up, forcing me to initiate contact in early May. After further delays and lack of communication from her staff, a new administrative assistant submitted the request, which was ultimately denied by Tricare. On June 10th, I received a call informing me of the denial (days after I received a letter from Tricare). I requested a self-pay quote for the revision surgery, and as of today, June 18th, I am still waiting. From my perspective, Dr. Stevenson and her staff displayed a shocking lack of care and professionalism. Once they had my/insurance company $20,000, I felt completely devalued as a patient. This experience has been deeply traumatic, and I cannot stress enough how strongly I recommend seeking plastic surgery care elsewhere. Do not trust Dr. Julia Stevenson/Cardinal Plastic Surgery with your health or your money.

Dr. Alspaugh and his staff have been great with getting my surgery date setup expeditiously and have tolerated all of my questions, concerns and provided great advise on what to expect from pre-op, surgery, post op and through recovery. Personally, Dr. Alspaugh himself is the king of trivia & I think he was a comedian in his past life LOL! He's very experienced and knowledgeable. He and two other board certified plastic surgeons work at Associates in Plastic Surgery. They have a beautiful office in Virginia Beach where the front desk ladies provide great customer service, and drs staff was very generous with providing suggestions and recovery material to make sure I was comfortable. Since I was requesting my insurance company cover the surgery, my only drawback was pushing the office to get my medical records obtained, reviewed and submitted to the insurance company from their office. My dermatologist sent me to Virginia Plastic Surgery for emergency reconstruction of my nose. Dr. Morbia was able to take me the same day. My nose is very sensitive, but he numbed it enough that I only felt some odd tugging, as he used existing loose skin in the area to rebuild my nose. By the time I drove home, across the bay, I felt an ache starting, and needed a couple ibuprofen and an ice pack to control pain and swelling. It is an amazing work. I am immensely grateful for Dr. Morbia's amazing skill and ability to help me on short notice.

Time for yet another update…read more Brief background - I've been coming here on and off since 2014 for laser hair removal, mole removals, laser skin treatments, and facials. Dr. Lopes removed some moles for me a few years ago and my results were amazing. No scars and I had one on my chin that you would literally never know was there! It was expensive - something like $100 a mole and I had 9 removed - insurance will not pay for anything here bc it's all cosmetic. I've heard all good things about her and her skills in plastic surgery. I don't know that I'll ever go there, but, good to know she's here if I do want to. I had laser hair removal here years ago with Maggie and, bc of my sensitive skin and some scars on my legs, I had to do lower power on the laser and more treatments. I paid over $4000 for the treatments and Maggie modified it for me as needed to suit my skin. I appreciated this and never forgot it. I was initially given a quote good for 6 months when discussing the laser hair removal so I could leave and think on the investment. Now, when I went back to see Rachel last year - no quotes, just her assessment in the exam room quickly, and it felt like she was just making it up off the top of her head. I didn't think that was as professional as the process in the past. I want to be given an exam and a quote sheet I can take with me so we're all on the same page. I spent about $1000-1200 on some touch-ups and some vascular issues and had an issue with a "follow-up" that I was charged for when I was under the impression it was included in my price since I was being brought in to review the results. No quotes given either - you have to remember and hope she remembered what she said it would be. What? After Maggie retired they did bring in another esthetician for a while also but she's no longer there and my future appointments were cancelled. I believe they have not replaced her and no longer offer facials bc no one has ever called to reschedule and this was over 6 months ago. She was also shady about prices and there were no prices listed the first few times I went and she kept "offering" other things to do or recommended I "needed" but you had no idea what it would cost and some of those things were $90-150 each! If I had said yes to everything - I'd have easily spent $450. Shady. Rain, the office manager, is kind and worked with me to resolve the issue I had with the follow-up mentioned above. The front desk staff are sweet. I just don't appreciate when we're talking about this kind of money, feeling like the prices aren't set - they're made up on the spot. Something about that rubs me entirely the wrong way and makes me pause on coming here for anymore laser follow-up and treatments.
