It all worked out great in the end! We ordered the three-fish-fillet plate, the breaded sea plaice plate, a salad of mixed vegetables and a dessert of sea buckthorn creme brulee. Everything was incredibly delicious, well plated and well executed! Lots of the ingredients were fairly unique and not stuff that one would commonly see in the US. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for good seafood in Dresden. In particular, they offer a number of high quality freshwater fish which are difficult to find in other places, like zander. Definitely do keep in mind that this place serves rather large portions (it's a good thing!) -- we finished everything but I was definitely really stuffed by the end. The restaurant is easily reachable by tram and one good idea is to first take a walk around the Grand Garden in Dresden and then head to dinner at Schwindts. We stayed even a little after closing (it took quite a bit of time to read and figure out the menu) and not once were they pushy about trying to get us to leave.

Cooks are desperately trying to come up with innovative dishes. A variation of seafood products of which only the tuna sashimi is good. And for good reason, it requires no preparation. The baby calamari are centuries old and rubbery, the scallop gratin is bathed in the water rendered by the cheese, etc. The beef tartare is super-fat and original with mustard ice cream. The lightly filo breaded prawns are quite good. Don't order the cheese plate : it looks like under blister cooked cheese of low class supermarket. Crêpes Suzette are tasty and prepared on an old kitchen stove of a military cart. Professional service, probably the best of this pretentious fable.

I was greeted by a nice older gentleman who I think is the manager or the owner. He kindly ushered me in and greeted me with "Merry Christmas." I felt like I wanted to splurge so I asked for some dessert. The waiter recommended me his favorite. From what I could figure out, it was an ice cream ball with a layer of chocolate gelato and vanilla center covered in cocoa powder. When it came out, it was pretty much what I expected with some additional whipped cream and caramel sauce. Not too heavy, just sweet enough, and a great way to end the meal. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal. Oh, and to top it off, the price was extremely reasonable for the quality of food, service, and live music!
