Coolest surf shop by far! The older gentlemen working the counter are soo incredibly kind and helpful. They constantly lay surfer wisdom on me. Bought a pair of surf boots here and they were soo reasonably priced and great quality. They also do rentals and that has proven to be so wonderful. I've rented some surfboards and wetsuits from here a few times - fast service and reasonable prices. Their boards are a bit on the heavily used end but they still get the job done. I've only seen soft top rentals. Their customer service is okay - the older gentlemen who work their are a lot more helpful! Although not advertised they do offer overnight rentals - they will work out the pricing with you based on hours. All reasonably priced. The store itself is packed with ample options of wetsuits, and kid sizing as well. read more

I came in to get a small wave board, and when I started describing the dimensions I was looking for, the young brown haired guy told me to forget about the volume of the board as if it didn't matter. First time surfing! My friend wanted to show me how to surf, so we chose to meet here to rent a board and wetsuit. The employers were all very rad during the rental process and everything was very organized but then again this was when they just opened their doors. It gets busy quick so I highly encourage you to get there early only because when we got back to return our boards around 1pm, there was a line going through the store. For someones first time surfing, you cannot beat their price for all day rental. The only cons for me were that they don't provide lockers nor booties to rent for the ice numbing waters. My feet were frozen for a good 10 minutes after getting into the ocean, but we got used to it. Thanks to my friend, I have a new hobby to learn. read more

I took a very large group of students to Nor-Cal Surf Shop for a lesson and the team was wonderful. Our group consisted of 7 UC Berkeley students most of whom were surfing for their first time. The team was very patient and all of the students had so much fun. I also felt like the value was excellent because we were also provided with suit and board rentals included with the cost of the lesson. The shop is conveniently located on Linda Mar beach and we all grabbed burgers and coffee next door afterward. Highly recommend!! read more

After living in pacifica basically my entire life, kind of ashamed I haven't been in here before UNTIL recently. Amazing surf shop with more than just surf boards. As a lady who doesn't surf, I was intimidated to come in, but glad I finally did because I found out they carry a ton of "surf brand" clothing, Mexican blankets, Sanuks, reusable water bottles...wow I wish I would of came in so much sooner. Seriously, come in and check it out, I could spend a ton in here. Can't wait till I need a new pair of sanuks because it'll give me a reason to buy another Mexican blanket (they have so many colors to choose from!!) Support local and browse around, buy some cool stuff. Maybe rent or even buy a surf board, who knows. read more

Was disappointed with the state that the wetsuits and boards are given to you in. One of my fins was broken and the sharp part since it was broke cut my finger. My wetsuit was also given to me completely wet, inside out, and totally full of sand. They really should clean their wet suits! I'm appreciative of this place being where it is though because it's nice and convenient and the prices are pretty low for full day rentals. Half day rentals don't start till after 1:30 though so if you rent before then you're forced to do full day. They also don't rent booties. They've got some changing rooms but I didn't use them. I would come back I just wish the wetsuits weren't so wet and sandy. read more

I had a great morning class with Rod and Nor Cal at the weekend! They were understanding when I turned up late and helped me find parking. I'm a beginner and this was only my third time out with a board, but Rod was very encouraging and I was pleased to paddle successfully into waves for the first time on my own. It was busy in the water for the long weekend but Rod kept us safe and out the way of other surfers. After the lesson we were allowed to stay out longer with the wetsuits and boards. On returning the stuff everyone at the shop was super friendly and helpful and I never felt rushed. Great job!! read more

Went to rent a board for my first time surfing. I walk in with the front doors propped wide open at 8:00AM as the website says that's when they open. I am greeted by the owner aggressively escorting me and my sister out of the store. Guy couldn't simply talk to me and just wanted to get us out of the store until 9:00AM, the "COVID hours." Really just a sour taste and poor experience. First impressions are everything and quite frankly I'm just going to go buy my own board and wetsuit so I don't have to deal with another sour attitude like this guy. To the owner, maybe I'll see ya on the water one day and you won't be in such poor spirits. read more

Nor cal has you covered for all your surfing needs, the main shop is full of surf and skate brand name apparel and shoes. The upper section has a number of skateboard decks to choose from. They primarily carry the O'Neil and two other wetsuit brands, the names currently escape me. They do have some pretty sweet deals on a number of their clothing and shoes, and their prices are pretty fair to start. The staff here are young, and some of them are helpful, while others aren't quite as much. About 3 or 4 doors down they did open an additional wing which is made up of only their surfboards. They do have their share of rental equipment, soft top surf boards, short boards, long boards and paddle boards. Their prices are decent, still a bit on the high side still better then log shop which is down the street. It's worth a stop to check out, they do have a small consignment rack section as well. read more

Go to Sonlight instead! I took my surfboard in to Norcal for a repair and I got it back with a broken fin box, probably caused by stacking boards on top of each other. The store denied it and didn't admit to any mishandling or wrong doing. It was ridiculous. Trying to deal with their staff was like dealing with a bunch of kindergarteners. "Na ah, we didn't do it.. it was like that before we got here." I took it to Sonlight and they repaired it for 60 bucks. I always go to Sonlight now. In response to the Business Owner's comment, your staff did not take the fins off like you said they should on all repairs. I actually posted a picture on your Yelp page a long time ago with the fins on and the broken fin box exactly as it was returned to me. I've never surfed before and signed up for my first lesson last week. Rod was my instructor, and I am grateful for his teaching and guidance! I also appreciated the description of surfing etiquette and how to be a respectful, friendly surfer out on the water. The class was a mix of beachside tips and in the water practice. Personally I love learning by doing, and I was able to do so in the lesson. Rod was quick to point out where I should focus on improving and I appreciated getting those tips in the lesson so I could try them out. Being able to learn from an expert and their experiences was invaluable. I love being out in the ocean, and am grateful for an amazing first surfing experience. read more

Came here to rent a wetsuit and booties for a friend so they could join us surfing at LM. The cost was $17 + after tax and they don't rent booties. If you've ever surfed LM in the winter, you DEFINITELY want booties because the air & water temp are about the same...cold as hell! Left and went to the Log Shop a few blocks away. The Log Shop rented a wetsuit AND booties for $18 total. Better deal and more options at the Log Shop. I expected Nor-Cal to be the one with the better selection and they failed me. The staff is warm and helpful. The choices are nice and the prices are reasonable. They are located right next to the beach. This is the best surf shop I've found in Northern California. They rent wetsuits and boards offer lessons. They cater both to surfers and skaters (the top floor is a skate shop). They have custom boards and do ding repairs. Again the part that separates them from all other surfs shops is their staff. They truly are top notch. They welcome me,remember me and even hug me when I come in. Our experience at NorCal surf shop can be summed up in a word - easy. Walked in, picked up boards and wet suits, and within minutes we were down at the surf. Pluses: a) the guys weren't sticklers for time going back (we returned the boards/suits at 5:30ish); b) the prices were reasonable (half day surf at $30ish); and c) their location is minutes from the water. Minuses: a) they didn't have the right sized boards for everyone; b) some of the wetsuits had rips; and c) parking is difficult in this plaza on a busy day so you'll have to park miles away. Overall? A nice solid place and the minuses didn't stop me from having a good time. Check them out for your surfing needs! read more

Took a surfing lesson here on Saturday morning @ 10, water was a bit choppy but nevertheless the instructor Rod was super helpful and helped us (group of 3) feel comfortable and made sure we all caught a couple waves with his help. I found myself just doing my own thing towards the end of the session because he coached pretty good. Had a good conversation with him and the group of people taking the lesson. I will definitely return in a couple weeks but just do it on my own since I feel comfortable getting out on the water now :) read more

Whenever i take newbies out, this shop is usually one of the first stops for gear rental Also they tend to have good prices on mass manufactured Thailand made Waldens, one of which i currently own. Overall good location, good products, good customer service. Having said all that Linda Mar is already crowded so if you're not sure you want to surf - you probably dont :) (because its hard and cold) but definitely stop by Nor Cal and buy a sweatshirt. read more

This is an awesome surf/skate shop! Although it is very recognizable brand, it still feels like a shop that was opened solely because its owners have a passion for surfing. There are plenty of boards (surf and skate), wet suits, shirts/shorts, sandals and sunglasses. The staff is very friendly. We stopped by today and purchased a pair of inexpensive sunglasses (although they are a surprising quality pair for less than $20). Took part in a socially distanced surfing class of three, my 10 year old son included. Rod was our instructor and was really amazing! They were swells about 6-10 feet high this weekend, but he was still able to work with them and get all of us up and surfing. Would highly recommend NorCal!!! read more
