One of my many board purchases at Sonlight.
Thomas A.

Sonlight has been instrumental in my surfing journey! After taking some lessons on Oahu, I came back to CA both excited and scared to get into surfing full-time. My first experience in the shop was coming in with my girlfriend to try on wetsuits. It being our first time getting into wetsuits, it could have been terribly awkward, but Indigo was awesome and helped us through the process, answering all the questions we had. Even as complete newbies, we were made to feel welcome. After that, it was easy to make the decision that Sonlight would be my go-to for all things surfing. Jeremiah and Dana are also both amazing and incredibly helpful. I've learned so much about surfing and the local beach (Linda Mar) through my visits to the shop. They are always happy to give insights to help you progress your surfing, understand the conditions, and stay safe. They truly know their customers and are able to deftly cater their advice to suit each person's style and needs. Jeremiah, in particular, has helped introduce me to several boards that have been perfect fits for me and where I'm at in my surfing progression. In addition to that, he's been invaluable counsel during several custom board orders. Without his advice and guidance, there's no way I'd be having as much fun as I am right now. I could go on forever about how great Sonlight is, but you should go and see for yourself. As a total beginner, they welcomed me in and they continue to help me learn and grow as a surfer, and for that I'm tremendously thankful.

Our first time to this shop and it was a great experience! We love going to Pacifica beach to surf and water just checking out the local shops before we left. We were greeted right away and asked if we needed any help finding anything... very welcoming! They are very knowledgeable and good prices and deals! I ended up buying a surf board while we were there and I can't wait to try it out!! Definitely will be back!

The best family friendly and helpful Surfshop on this side of Pacifica. I've bought both my wetsuit and board from them and each time I've even just bought wax or got a great rental wetsuit from them they've always been really helpful and understanding of my situations or needs. 5 stars .

Asked for a fin box repair and color match and this is what I got!? Super bummed!!!! The repaired fin sits 1/4" higher than the other fin. Also there's repair resin finger prints all over the tail of the board. Take you board else where!!!

You never know who you're going to meet some days, and that was my case when I worked in a small coffee shop that is now closed in Pacifica. Lots of times Jeremiah who is the owner of sunlight would come in and get a chai and we would say hi and what's up to each other. I later saw him at a buddies church and then we chatted more. I finally made my way over to his shop in June 2020 and tried on a couple suits, and left with a brand new rip curl wetsuit, experience was perfect. Even during a pandemic Jeremiah was easy-going, courteous, willing to let me try a new suits, and made my purchase a breeze because I was new to the wetsuit game. His staff was also rad. Support local, Their business was started by Jeremiahs wife's family back in the day and they put their heart and soul into it. You need to shop local because Jeremiah and his family live, teach, And breathe surfing! They put their heart and soil in this business, it's transparent and clean. You won't find that anywhere else or amazon! Much love to y'all and thank you again! And YES they rent boards and suits! :-p

I am soooo very proud of my cousin, Danny Moreno and his wife, Robin maintaining this great, convenient surfshop all these years! Danny's surfshop has been at the same exact location way many years before NorCal located in the Linda Mar District opened its doors. Comparatively, Danny's surfshop is a TRUE surfshop whereas NorCal . . . well-nevermind . . . you go check out the differences yourselves and you will discover you will be a Sonlight surf shopping addict! O=;-) Capische? Oh, by the way . . . Danny is selling his Indie DVD at his store . . . go buy one and you will surely appreciate the Man as I do as Danny is my cousin!

We are extemely pleased with the service and expertise we received at Sonlight. We decided to purchase our board there after my son rented a board there and was treated with great kindness. The shop was fairly busy when we went, yet Jeremiah was able to provide great customer service including installing the leash, fins, and patiently observing my son waxing the new board as the shop was past closing time. Prices are competitive so supporting a local, small business near one of the best places to surf made this purchase feel great, as demonstrated by my smile.

Getting my 4th board from sonlight.

This shop and the nearby popular beach with which it shares a name and is known for their huge wave surfing is a must-see if you're in the area. We weren't in the market for any surf gear, but they have everything you need here if you are. We enjoyed perusing their store and I ended up purchasing a t-shirt and hat. The other stores in the area were closed for renovation, but if you end up here, eat at nearby Sam's and make an afternoon of it. That's what we did. Enjoy!

The National Marine Sanctuaries states, "Due to the steep topography of the bedrock reef at Mavericks, the wave energy rapidly converges and the wave height rapidly increases, creating a huge wave compared to the adjacent areas." I had to see this surf shop and it is an incredible place. The staff is very friendly and they assist you in whatever you are looking for. They have a great selection of footwear for both men and women as well as eye glasses. The sorts were really great with selections for men that are with a collar and lots os T's and sweat shirts. The prices are really good and they do have sales racks in the front on clothing that is in some cases 50% off. You have a great view of the Harbor and Mavericks and the customer service is fantastic. By the way, I purchased a T-Shirt there with their brand and I am wearing it right now as I type this review. I highly recommend this shop.

Many are sporting fashionable costumes & exuding great confidence. I think. There's also vendors selling food, T-shirts, giving away frisbees, hip packs, keychains, much etc. if you think your dog has what it takes, you must sign a waiver before hitting the waves. Not every dog takes to surf lessons, so what you see are exceptional athletes with good training. Each dog is guided to the crest of a wave, then holds on for the ride to shore. The couple thousand spectators cheer them on. For those not in the know, a Taco Bell sits on the beach itself, providing an awesome view of the activity from the deck. Heck yeah, sign me up! There were lots of dogs and their humans all over Pacifica State Beach this past Saturday, for the annual World Dog Surfing Championship. So many dogs doing their thing (ie. peeing in the sand in front of beachgoers, flicking dirt onto people as they dug holes in the sand... but surprisingly not a lot of barking), playing with other dogs, and getting spoiled by dog-lovers with so much attention, as well as toys and treats from vendor tents in the back. There were plenty of items for sale including cute T-shirts from California Canine, and plush squeak toys and travel accessories from P.L.A.Y. (Pet LIfestyles and You). But there was no food for humans for sale at any of the tents, which was odd for this type of event.. not even snacks or drinks. But I guess it's good that the event was located right next to the Taco Bell Cantina. And at least they had porta potties available at the beach near the parking lot. In order to view the actual dog surfing, you had to be in the water, some of us even knee deep. So it's good I wore shorts on this day cuz that made it super fun to get up close and personal with these awesome dogs, some even surfing right toward me as I took photos and cheered them on with the rest of the crowd. The big question we had before attending was, do the dogs really surf by themselves? And how? Well here's how it worked. The dogs were grouped into heats (small, medium, and large dogs... tandem, etc.) Then two or three boards went at a time, near the shoreline of the water. There would be a at least one human at each end (in the water, and near the shoreline) for each dog or pair of dogs. One human was further in the water and would wait for the waves then give the surfboard a push toward the shore once the dog was balanced on it (some dogs even sitting on the board instead of standing), the other human would catch the dog/board on the other end... that is if the dog(s) didn't fall off into the water, or jump off and start running into the crowd. Those that stayed on the surfboard while gliding on the water apparently got more points, since this was a contest and they were being judged. The same dog would have multiple turns over and over, it's like no limit to how many tries... but I think it was mostly to put on a good show for us viewers :D The speaker system wasn't that great, so it was kind of hard to hear the announcers and tell what was going on if you were just lying on the sand, stretched out on your beach blanket or mat, instead of joining the crowds in the water. It would have been better if they had music playing or something like that to make it a little more lively. But it was fun regardless, getting to just relax, lounge, enjoy a picnic and conversation with one of my favorite people. And entertaining enough to watch other people's dogs all throughout the area, and talk to their owners. They also had a fashion show, with dogs wearing fun costumes, some even matching their humans (ie. a couple and their two dogs all dressed like watermelon). Some aspects of this event made it seem somewhat chaotic at times. Parking wasn't too difficult to find in the nearby neighborhood, but traffic was a bit slow and confusing getting there. Also, volunteers/staff at the event often yelled to tell people to make space for the surf dogs on the sand, like they were walking the red carpet or somethin, and judges yelled to tell people in the water to move, if the dog ended up floating in your direction while "surfing".  There probably could have been a little bit better organization, but I actually liked the subtle chaos and unpredictability, I mean as long as the dogs were having fun, and they had safety measures in place for everyone (police, fire truck, first aid, medic truck), attendees, especially dog-lovers, had a lot to appreciate about this unique and free event on the beach! We certainly had a good time :)

The only barrier to me going more is that it is so expensive for one lesson (over $300). The instructor explained the super high cost of the foil itself, so I understand the need to increase the lesson price. I would love to do this more regularly, but cannot for this reason. I decided to splurge on the first lesson and was gifted the second lesson. We put in at Crane Cove Park. I have been there many times but never swam in the water. I was outfitted with a wetsuit, helmet, and booties. I never felt cold while in the water. During my first lesson, they connected this radio to the helmet so I could speak to the instructor while out. It was super helpful because he could give me real-time feedback. In my second lesson, they did not have radios, so it was harder to communicate during the lesson. It really is so fun to foil, and I highly recommend it to anyone who might want to give it a try. If you wanted to feel comfortable doing it, unless you regularly surge/skateboard, it would probably take 3-5 lessons before you are zooming around standing completely, so definitely factor that in when it comes to cost.
