There were only two waitresses for the entire restaurant and they had to walk up the flight of stairs to drinks us drinks and food. I started off with the loaded potato soup which was tasty with bacon. Then I had the shrimp Po boy with local shrimp. The shrimp were good however the bread wasn't. It felt like it was day old not a fresh from the oven. I heard issues with all of the bread at the table which was unfortunate as the inside treats were tasty. Including the soft shell crabs which we were informed had been caught by the owner. The shrimp and scallop soup also had good flavor but the pear and cheese appetizer was lacking flavor and the dough was too thick. I did hear that the restaurant was somewhat new so they have a few things to work out.

Our party of 6 split up to avoid having to wait 45 minutes for a single table to sit us all. We were a party of 4 and another table of 2. We had different waitress and the one table was almost finished their meal before the other table was served even though we sat down at the same time. I was informed the scallops were chewy due to being over cooked and the soft shell crab was fishy tasty like they were not fresh and they cut a small one into two not coming close to filling the taco shell. The peel your own shrimp were also over cooked making it difficult to get the shell off. I will however say the clam chowder was delicious, the she crab soup was a little too rich for me to finish my bowl but was very tasty. The blackened tuna bites were amazing. However despite my meal being good the over consensus was not good.

First night- take out. Food was spectacular. I cannot believe how well the seafood lasagna packaged and tasted even after getting it home. Would do that again. The lady at the front wasn't necessarily the warmest person I've ever met. But she did make an effort as we stood there longer to help out. Second night- sit down on the roof. It was the only spot they allowed dogs, which was fine. We were the only people up there which was odd. Our waiter was an absolute champ going up and down those stairs all day. Deserved a large tip. The food was solid but holy smokes were the drinks bad. Like some of the worst mixed drinks I've ever had. If I went again I'd stick to the food. Or just a simple beer.

My friend went to the bar, got two drinks, and simply walked them five feet back over to me. When my friend later went back to the bar to grab napkins and straws, the blonde bartender started berating her and screaming, "I TOLD YOU NOT TO DO THAT!" She even grabbed my friend by the wrist to get her point across. Completely unacceptable. I went over calmly to try to smooth things over and asked her to clarify the rule. Instead, she erupted in my face and put her hand in my face. We were genuinely trying to understand because we were visiting and had never heard of this "2 drink rule." There was absolutely no reason for this level of hostility. Rules can be explained. Customers can be corrected. You do not scream in someone's face or put your hands on them. When we left, I told the guy at the front who collects money and stamps hands what had happened. His response was basically, "Oh yeah, the girl (bartender)? Yeah, sorry." Apparently, this behavior wasn't exactly a surprise. A simple explanation would have been enough. Instead, this bartender completely ruined the vibe and made us feel incredibly unwelcome. Disgusting, hostile, and profoundly unprofessional behavior.

We have had mixed experience's at others in the chain, but we like Shipwrecks and Sand Trap well enough we decided to give this one a try. Ms T ordered the Classic Burger with their Cottage Fries. Since we are rarely in KDH when Sooey's is actually open, I wanted to try their barbecue in sandwich form. I had slaw on the side. The burger was 1/2 lb and was done to her taste. It was fine but was virtually unseasoned. We were looking for a good crust with some salt and pepper grilled in. The patty was not a pre-formed, dense hockey puck. The Cottage fries are very good. They are slices of potatoes, nicely cooked with a lot of surface area to get them done and were perfectly salted. I think Sooey's can produce better barbecue than I had. Perhaps it has to do with being there off-season. It was not stale, but it was dry. I liked the flavor but had to douse it with Texas Pete to moisten it. I suggest it is worth another try. The serving is very large and not over-priced. I took the big half of my sandwich home as Ms T did with her burger. The "southern style" slaw was not good. As far as I could tell about all it had on it was sour cream. It had no vinegar backbone, not a hint of sweetness to balance it out. The cabbage was stale and soggy. We liked that 1903 participates in AAdvantage dining so added to our mileage balance on this day. Will we go back? Probably. We judge it to be OK and on a par with its predecessor, Two Roads. They have a decent burger that could be better if seasoned and a decent barbecue that could be better. However, there are much better places to go for either one. They offer taco flights that appear to be an attempt to be authentic but they are pricey. I should bite the bullet and see if they know what they are doing with birria or carnitas.

I've been here with a party of 12 before, and we definitely waited a while, but I was impressed that they were able to accommodate a group that size. This time, I was with a party of two and we were seated pretty quickly. My one complaint about the wait system is that they announce when your table is ready, but if you're out of earshot, you'll miss it. It would be nice if they used a text, call, or buzzer system so you could walk down to the beach while you wait. Part of the pier seating is covered, but the farther you go out, the more exposed you are. We were seated near the end, so it was hot in the direct sun and very windy. But that comes with the territory, and the views make it worth it. There are also plenty of birds hoping you'll share your fries with them, which is both expected and pretty funny. We each ordered a Pain Killer. It was good at first, but it quickly became watered down, and I didn't think it was worth $10. We also got the nachos, but the price adds up quickly once you start adding toppings. Most of the menu is very à la carte. The prices seem reasonable at first, but sides and toppings can add up fast. The burgers don't come with fries, for example. We both got the West Coast Burger. It was good, but nothing particularly memorable. Service was attentive and generally friendly. Overall, Fish Heads is one of the better dining options in the area. The pier setting and views really make the experience unique. I enjoy coming here and will likely be back.
