This is the second restaurant of this kind to open this month. They are almost identical, from the…read moremenus to the interior decor and even the friendliest of waitstaff. Based on what items my husband and I eat at these two restaurants the value is a little better here. Our choices costs $1.00 less and they come with soup and salad, whereas Yamato just offers the entree with no extras. http://www.yelp.com/biz/yamato-steak-house-of-japan-corinth One deciding factor as to which restaurant will be the most popular, in our opinion, will be their ability to maintain high quality. Of course, Tokyo will see a higher volume of traffic due to their location in a shopping center near the Walmart Supercenter and movie theater, but to me success means repeat customers. If the quality isn't there I do not go back at all, or I take a break from the place for a few months and let them have a chance to regroup. The main differences between these two, practically mirror image restaurants, are the number of dishes offered and the taste of the onion soup and the miso soup. Yamato only offers the two soups, whereas Tokyo offers seven flavors. The soup base at Yamato is the same so it doesn't matter which soup you order...both tastes the same. Beef lovers, such as my husband, will have much more to choose from here at Tokyo, with upward of 30 variations to pick from. You can eat here everyday for 2 1/2 weeks and have nothing but tempura options, with at least 14 of them being shrimp. The New China Buffet has been the place to go for sushi and stir-fry foods for the past decade, but with this new blood and competition they are adding a hibachi buffet area to their restaurant and it will be functioning within a week (end of Dec and there aren't any details yet as far as price and availability). http://www.yelp.com/biz/new-china-buffet-corinth The hibachi salmon entree was my first choice for the grand opening visit to Tokyo and was not disappointed in the least. It is served with fried rice, vegetables, soup and a salad. My husband chose to try the NY Strip hibachi entree served with the same options. I don't know what their secret is to obtaining such tender steak but it is better than most steak houses and definitely better than almost any steak sold in this town. Let's see if it is just as good tomorrow.

The total came out to nearly $60.00 and this is what we got.. the special rolls only have 8 per order same as the classic but double the price. They also only included 3 packets of soy sauce for all of the sushi. I won't be ordering from this place again I'll be sticking with Yomato

They always…read morehave great live music on the weekends and their typical crowd is ideal compared to some other local bars. Their food selection isn't huge, but that's okay because every single item is amazing. Whether you get their ramen, bao buns, eggrolls, po boys, or appetizers, I promise it will be delicious. My personal favorites are the eggrolls. They have a wide selection on the drink menu, but you can order any standard mixed drinks as well. I recommend trying at least one of their signature cocktails, though, because there are some really neat options! The only downside is the limited seating, which can be annoying if they are super busy. If you get a table or a seat at the bar, you'll have an amazing time. Otherwise, you might be standing along the wall waiting for a spot to open up. That's a risk that's probably worth taking, though, given how great the atmosphere will be while you're here!

Drinks are great; they don't have a good scotch selection…read morebut the Japanese whisky choices are excellent (basically Japanese scotch, and it's very good). Ambience is great. Food looks interesting, would definitely eat here. Karaoke was awful. Just awful. How awful? Well, awful enough that I decided to write a review. And its not about the singers. Lots of people aren't great singers...that's expected. The karaoke guy runs the worst karaoke show I've seen in a long time. Anywhere from 4 to 7 minutes of thumping bumper music to entertain himself between singers (nothing against the genre, but it was completely opposite of every song people were choosing...know your demographic), no concept at all of basic EQ (vocals buried under the booming and mushy bass) , filled the room with smoke so thick you could barely see the stage, and blows a super loud and annoying air-horn sound effect between every. single. freakin'. song. Again...food, drinks, ambience and service are great. But if you enjoy karaoke, avoid.

However, we were there for 2 1/2 hours due to the food not being ready on time. We ordered a decent amount of sushi, hibachi , an appetizer and dessert. We got our hibachi first before we even got our sushi or appetizer. The sushi came around the last 30 min mark which was very late, felt like we had to rush. T And they were out of a lot of stuff that we wanted to try. Couldn't even eat dessert. Also overheard a lot of convos with mad delivery drivers and customers about their pickup orders not being available.

We started with appetizers and some warm sake. We loved the sushi rolls and I ordered some drunken noodles. I loved my dish. One of the better drunken noodles I've had in Memphis. Everyone enjoyed their dishes as you can see the photos speak for themselves. I tried some of the lobster roll and it was delicious. We all can't wait to come back. Very clean place. Bathrooms are clean. It's a cool concept. They turned a home into a restaurant. Kura House is the perfect name. Be sure to check them out.
