The atmosphere of Lava Room might be the best in Florence, this place is really cool! They always have great live music on the weekends and their typical crowd is ideal compared to some other local bars. Their food selection isn't huge, but that's okay because every single item is amazing. Whether you get their ramen, bao buns, eggrolls, po boys, or appetizers, I promise it will be delicious. My personal favorites are the eggrolls. They have a wide selection on the drink menu, but you can order any standard mixed drinks as well. I recommend trying at least one of their signature cocktails, though, because there are some really neat options! The only downside is the limited seating, which can be annoying if they are super busy. If you get a table or a seat at the bar, you'll have an amazing time. Otherwise, you might be standing along the wall waiting for a spot to open up. That's a risk that's probably worth taking, though, given how great the atmosphere will be while you're here! read more

Came in for a few drinks and karaoke. Drinks are great; they don't have a good scotch selection but the Japanese whisky choices are excellent (basically Japanese scotch, and it's very good). Ambience is great. Food looks interesting, would definitely eat here. Karaoke was awful. Just awful. How awful? Well, awful enough that I decided to write a review. And its not about the singers. Lots of people aren't great singers...that's expected. The karaoke guy runs the worst karaoke show I've seen in a long time. Anywhere from 4 to 7 minutes of thumping bumper music to entertain himself between singers (nothing against the genre, but it was completely opposite of every song people were choosing...know your demographic), no concept at all of basic EQ (vocals buried under the booming and mushy bass) , filled the room with smoke so thick you could barely see the stage, and blows a super loud and annoying air-horn sound effect between every. single. freakin'. song. Again...food, drinks, ambience and service are great. But if you enjoy karaoke, avoid. read more

We basically tried at least one of everything on the menu! Our favorite was the wonton nachos, hands-down! So yummy! We also had traditional Bao buns and dumplings. The Ramen was good, but I liked the Miso chicken best. The tables are really tall and made it hard for my youngest daughter to sit and enjoy her food. The seating could've been more comfortable for sure. It was also kind of awkward that you ordered and paid at the counter for your food but then you could order a drink at the table and pay at the end. So we paid two different times. Since moving to middle south Tennessee from Portland, Oregon a couple of years ago, my husband and I have really missed the Portland food scene. So Lava Room is a happy find for us! We so enjoyed everything we tried! My husband had the Pork Tonkatsu ramen and traditional eggroll. The portobello mushrooms and soy egg in the ramen are just. so. good!!! Y'all, when I tell you he drank the broth with a straw! I had the elotè eggroll and Cuban bao buns and we shared the gyoza dumplings and Yaki Onigiri apps. OMG! I could live on that onigiri!!! I have to say, though, the cocktails topped it all! Only tried the Big Bubble in Little China and the Pea-chy Foam Home but was really impressed with the balance and complexity of both! The service was quick and friendly and the vibe is great! I definitely agree with a previous reviewer, Florence is lucky to have Lava Room! The ambiance of the restaurant was very cool and the staff were absolutely amazing. Food itself was not too impressive especially after reading the good reviews via Yelp. I personally do not understand the "unique" ordering system considering I wanted a non alcoholic beverage, but we had to order drinks at the bar. That means two separate transactions. My boyfriend ordered the shishito peppers as an appetizer. I personally thought they were okay but it came out cold. I ordered the sampler platter. The bao buns were incredibly greasy, egg rolls were decent. My boyfriend had the Pork Tonkotsu as his meal. We waited about half an hour for his ramen after I had received my meal. Loved the swanky interior decor, but that was the best part. We had the wonton nachos which had cold toppings and the meat was fatty and chewy. Also had the traditional egg roll which was cold and dry. The miso chicken bowl was just okay and did not have much flavor. Staff nice and place was clean. Drinks at the bar were good. I didn't enjoy the counter ordering and then trying to find a table or that you couldn't order any drinks at the counter, and had to go to the bar even for nonalcoholic beverages. read more
