Sorrento Cooking School - Homemade Neapolitan pizzette and some prosecco

I was getting discouraged after getting prices ranging from €150-250/person for cooking classes…read morenear Sorrento. I had almost given up until I stumbled onto the Sorrento Cooking School at Esperidi resort. For €60/person (cash only) my husband and I were able to enjoy a four hour cooking class in a beautiful and clean setting. The class was taught by an Italian chef that spoke only a few words of English so she had a British woman (who had been living for years in Italy) to translate for her. Very little was lost in translation. First we made pizza fritti (individually sized fried pizza dough topped with homemade marinara sauce, parmesan cheese, and basil). Afterwards we were treated to a glass of Prosecco and invited to enjoy our pizza outdoors on their beautiful patio complete with tall lemon trees. We also made cheese filled ravioli, white fish and potatoes, and tiramisu. At the end of the class we all sat at a communal table to enjoy the fruits of our labor with as much water and wine as our hearts desired! We were sent home with an apron and a copy of all the recipes we had just prepared. I highly recommend this class for anyone who would like to bring a taste of Italy back home.

Our teacher was a woman that reminded me of an Italian mother that always wants to feed you! She really knew her way around the kitchen and was a great teacher. Hubs even enjoyed the experience and he never cooks! We made Neapolitan Pizzette, ravioli, fish, and tiramisu! It was a fun menu and the best part was eating it afterwards. So rewarding to eat something you made. The food was excellent, the experience even better, we made memories and left so full! Now we will get to go home and try out our new recipes for our family. They even give you an apron, shopping bag and recipe card to take home to remember you day at sorrento cooking school! I would recommend to anyone in the area!!!

We had booked with another cooking school but was cancelled without notice. Terry accommodated us asap. I still remember her cooking, her advice and techniques. Terry's selection of wine paring alone was worth the price of admission. Terry left such an impression that my wife and I vowed to make Terry's recipe for sauce, meatballs and pasta for Christmas dinner with our daughters. I am so happy we took the class with Terry, her sister ( mia sorella) and even her brother at the end of the class. Terry and her family were lovely and made the experience so much fun and informative. We ranged from good cooks to no so much and we all had a great time. We made pasta, meatballs, tiramisu, and mozzarella wrapped in lemon leaves, and all of this was accompanied by delicious local wine Terry had selected. In addition Terry was a terrific source for local information and we had a great conversation with her about history, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Naples, and Paestum-all places we had or were planning on visiting. She was a wealth of information with her background as an archaeologist as well as delightful! Thoroughly enjoyed the evening and highly recommend it if you're in beautiful Sorrento!!!

We even had to shift back our class one hour due to our ship's port time changing and they were very nice and accommodating. Once we arrived, we were greeted by the owners Alberto and Maurizio. While we waited for the other students, we chit chatted and drank a fruity beverage. Everyone was just lovely and charming. The space was bright and inviting. Luigi taught our class - he was extremely knowledgeable and was able to teach those of us that didn't speak any Italian (with a little translation help from Maurizio). We made 3 kinds of pizzas, all using equipment we have in our homes for easy duplication of the recipes. I had to save my calzone for dinner as everything was so delicious and filling! Being in Italy, we of course had wine with our meal. If I ever return to Naples, I will definitely take another class. They teach so much more than just Italian food. I'd LOVE to take the pastry class!

When we arrived we were greeted by a hostess who gave us some history about the restaurant and gave us a tour around the newly renovated property, their extensive wine cellar, sitting room and cooking school kitchen. Our visit so happened to coincide with their grand re-opening after a year and half of renovations. They also have rooms you can rent and one villa as well as enroll in cooking classes. During our meal one of the owners Salvatore came to our table and greeted us, as did Chef himself! We felt special and appreciated and they were truly genuine and happy to have us. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, with intimate areas and quiet spaces as well as larger open spaces for larger groups. Service was above and beyond and the food out of this world. No wonder it's a two Michelin star restaurant. If you're a foody you must try one of their locations! I'll be trying the one in Toronto next time I'm there! Thank you again for a wonderful evening!
