What I saw when I ordered the large chef salad.

Pizza is good but salads not so much. Large chef salad with hardly any meat or cheese, no red onion, no croutons, no bread, wrong dressing. They blamed slice app. Regardless it was the worst interpretation of a chef salad itself have ever seen. $11 plus tax, tip, and service fee. Just don't order a salad if you are hungry. Pizza, on the other hand is very good. Great ingredients, grate taste. Tonight we tried the Hawaiian 2.0 very good taste. The jalapeño with the pineapple makes it have a nice sweet with a touch of heat taste. We have tried the suprema, and the salsiccia, both were great as well! Tried the arancini bolognese before as well, I loved it, my husband did not.

Beeman's Baked Goods

Beeman's Baked Goods

I went looking for peanut butter pie and somehow ended up rediscovering FRUITCAKE. On Halloween…read moreEve. Because apparently my food adventures have no rules anymore. I'd heard wonderful things about Beeman's Baked Goods in Carlisle, but their business-hour schedule had always made visiting a challenge. Then I got a craving. Not just any craving. A PEANUT BUTTER PIE craving. And considering approximately 63.8% of my personality is peanut butter, this situation required immediate attention! I rearranged my Friday afternoon and arrived around 3:15pm. Parking was plentiful, and I was the only customer when I walked inside. I immediately GASPED. HOMEMADE BAKED GOOD HEAVEN! Cakes, pies, whoopie pies, cookies and all kinds of delicious-looking treats! They also had milk, cheese, jams and other goodies. But I was a woman on a mission. PEANUT BUTTER PIE. I quickly found it in the refrigerator and was thrilled to discover they sold individual servings. And by "individual serving," I mean ONE QUARTER OF AN ENTIRE PIE. Bless these people! At $9.50, I had high expectations. I briefly considered buying an entire pie, but Responsible Adult Me prevailed. Quarter pie it was! With my precious peanut butter cargo secured, I wandered around contemplating a second treat. Chocolate cake with peanut butter icing? Chocolate peanut butter whoopie pie? And then something unexpected happened. FRUITCAKE. There it was, sitting near the window, practically GLISTENING in the afternoon sunshine. I hadn't eaten fruitcake in probably 20 years because nobody I know likes it. But I was spending Friday evening on my own, and suddenly I NEEDED fruitcake. FRUITCAKE?! Who even AM I?! Beeman's sells three sizes, so I grabbed the smallest for $5.50. Fifteen dollars later, I happily trotted out to my car with two desserts and absolutely no regrets. After dinner, it was time for the main event. THE PEANUT BUTTER PIE. I opened the container and immediately smelled peanut butter. STRONG peanut butter. Excellent sign! Then I took a bite. OH. MY. This may genuinely be one of the best peanut butter pies I've ever eaten. Rich, dense, perfectly sweet and absolutely PACKED with peanut butter flavor. None of that light, fluffy, vaguely peanut-butter-flavored nonsense. This was SERIOUS peanut butter pie! The crushed peanut butter cups on top were a fantastic finishing touch. Whatever brand they're using, I wholeheartedly approve. Remember those high expectations at $9.50? EXCEEDED. I'd have happily paid two or three times that amount. I've already decided I want one for my birthday in a few months. Future Birthday Me has officially made her dessert selection! Next came the fruitcake. I cautiously unwrapped my $5.50 impulse purchase, cut a test slice and took a bite. WELL, DANG! Apparently I've been depriving myself of fruitcake for TWENTY YEARS FOR NO GOOD REASON! Absolutely packed with walnuts and fruit, with just enough moist, flavorful cake to hold everything together. Less cake, more STUFF. Exactly how fruitcake should be! And who says fruitcake is just for Christmas? It was Halloween Eve, and I was living my best fruitcake life! I'm SO glad I finally made the trip. Their limited hours might prevent me from becoming a regular, but I'll absolutely be back for more peanut butter pie, fruitcake and eventually those tempting whoopie pies and cakes. PRO TIP: Check their hours before visiting! They're open Tuesday through Friday, 8am to 4pm, and Saturday, 8am to 2pm. And don't overlook those enormous individual pie servings! If you appreciate substantial, homemade baked goods, Beeman's is worth the trip. Nothing light or skimpy here. Just rich, dense, generously portioned deliciousness. As for me? I've found my birthday dessert AND rekindled a relationship with fruitcake.

Absolutely unacceptable. It's not what I remember. I was hoping to take the first bite and be brought back to the 90s, but it's not the same. This literally was a lemon meringue pie for $18. I will not buy anything else from this place again because it's not what I remember, it's not the same but it's the same culture of people so I don't know what happened but again I'm telling you if you're looking for something nostalgic, you're not gonna get it from here. I'm still on the search for that. Perfect lemon sponge pie.

I don't often come to The Butcher Shoppe in Chambersburg except to buy steaks, they are a butcher…read moreshop and their meats are amazing, at least that's been my experience. On Saturday, October 30th, 2026 I had a crazy craving for their cowboy steaks and went in to purchase a couple. I hadn't been there in months so to my surprise, I pointed to the two I wanted to the attendee and the total came to $105.77. The cost shouldn't be a surprise because beef is SO expensive these days. The Yt guy says, "Whoa, I hope that doesn't take your whole paycheck." Rude! but this guy has served me before and has always been pleasant. I gave his comment the benefit of the doubt and I mentioned I'm retired and I'd budgeted for this expense so. I get to the line to pay for the steaks and this older lady is standing in front of the cashier station and this super tall Yt guy who's apparently the bagger even though he didn't bag my steaks. Apparently, he's the inquisitor. He loudly asks, "Who is the Cowboy eating steak?" I responded "I am the cowboy." The older lady says, "That'll be 105.77" I swiped my debit card and she immediately shouted, "It didn't go through sir"! It was weird how loud she was. I'd been having issues at other vendors using the swipe function on my card. I decided to tap instead and my purchase went right through. It was like she wanted the customer audience to know I was having issues with the purchase. However, when I tapped instead and the purchase cleared, she had no comment. Again, Rude! The tall guy is still asking me dumb questions and I was only half paying attention but he got around to asking me a question about my car so I told him I owned a 2013 Lexus and he responded, "What do you do restore those and sell 'em?" WTF?! I'm thinking what's with all the questions? Is he thinking a black guy shouldn't own a Lexus or afford a couple of expensive steaks in this market? It was time for me to leave and take my steaks home. After I left, I was SO angry about what happened. I vowed never to come back and decided to share this situation on Yelp instead.

The building the shop is in, experienced a major renovation. The building sat empty for many years and was completely renovated. The interior is beautifully decorated and inviting. There are tables and chairs, and counters to sit and eat at and sofas for lounging. Customers can sit and browse the internet on their laptops and cellphones while enjoying a sandwich and coffee . The dining area and bathrooms are spotless. I tried a bagel and found it dense, not airy of light. The coffee is good. Most of their baked products are made in house. They offer bagels, pastries, cakes, breakfast and lunch sandwiches and more. Prices are slightly higher than other similar shops. However, the stores ambiance makes it worth the extra expense. The staff members are pleasant and friendly and service is quick. There is paid metered street parking available. A quarter will buy you an hour of time. This shop is very popular with the locals and especially with the high school students from the prestigious Mercersburg Academy. If your looking for a relaxing place to enjoy a cup of coffee, food and a place to meet with friends and family, this is the place. I recommend visiting this shop for a slightly elevated experience.
