Got an Apple Crumb pie as a gift and wow...just wow I stored the pie immediately upon receipt in the freezer to save. The flavor upon thawing was amazing as if it was freshly baked. I'm not a huge pie person, but I was intrigued by all the rave reviews for Nomadic Pies. Reviewers were not wrong! First, huge props for being open in the pandemic. As of fall 2020, the store is open on Wednesdays for curbside pickup and Saturdays for walk-in purchases. I took the advice on their website and called ahead to reserve my pies for pickup on Saturday. When I arrived, my purchase was seamless. My pies were ready for me and I even picked up something extra that they had in stock. The store is conveniently located on the main drag of Kennett Square. These pies are stuffed. My favorite was the chicken pot pie--I got two of the small ones, and it was a nice lunch for three people. The pumpkin pie was also great. A pear pie wasn't my favorite, but I enjoyed it with a heaping topping of whipped cream. I think it would also be awesome warmed with vanilla ice cream. Staff were friendly and helpful in making pie recommendations. I can't wait to go back. And I can't wait for the pandemic to be over so they'll be hopefully back at farmers markets. read more

Stopped in for the first time - how have I had no idea this place existed? I must have driven by it 100s of time and not even noticed. I spent $90 on several things for us and my mother-in-law. The owner worked with me and she couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful. They have a great variety. So far we tried their hand helds with beef (a bit dry - and way too salty for my liking). My mother-in-law loved her chicken pot pie (she's a salt fiend, so I'm assuming salty). The apple crumb was tasty, but a bit dry as well. We have a 9" meat pie to thaw and reheat and I'm hoping it isn't as salty as the hand held. I'm not sure what to say about things being kind of dry. But I would say to the cooks - scale back on the salt. We can always add it, but we can't take it out. read more

Happened on Nomadic Pies after brunch couldn't resist since the sweet pies are displayed in the front window. These pies looked so nice . We opted to buy two small pies pecan and apple. These pies were very good . Great amount of crust to fruit. The apples were cooked well ! All in all great stop. Didn't try the savory but reading reviews those are a good choice too ! This has been a huge treat while taking a break from nyc. We've gotten so many pies (always a dinner and a dessert) and will probably try more. Also should be said that they have a great system set up for COVID times and make everything in house. So far we've sampled the yellow chicken curry, the chicken pot pie, the buttermilk strawberry pie and the blueberry crusted pie. All have been really great and while it may sound the most pedestrian of the lot, the chicken pot pie has been the best of the bunch. While it didn't pack quite as much flavor at the Thai curry pie it's crust held up much better and was more flavorful. They have a variety of options that change every week. Awful! At least I bought the mini and not their regular $30 pie. Their version of "apple crumble" is so fantastically terrible that I had to throw it out. All of it--filling, crust, topping--is extremely dry, tough, and actually unpleasant feeling to swallow. Instead of buttery and flaky, the crust is dense, totally flavorless, and tough to chew. As for the crumble, it looks and tastes like they basically threw dry instant oats on top and called it a day. As someone who bakes, that kind of "crumble" just seems lazy. The whole thing tasted and looked lazy. And it's literally tasteless. I don't know what to say bout the filling, other than, well, tasteless and painfully dry (literally, this pie scratched my throat lol). And as for the flavor, nothing remarkable, and it's missing tartness. Apple crumble is such a tried and true baked good, that I don't know how they messed it up so royally. It's the worst pie experience I've ever had from a place that literally justifies itself in making and selling pies. Next time I'm passing through and want a pie, I'll just go to the grocery store. read more

Kombucha is on-tap in keg-orator in the corner, served in glass mason jars. The menu is scribbled onto on a wall-mounted paper pulldown, with the most popular items crossed out even early in the day. The glass counter up front prominently displays a choice selection of pies. Pies themselves come in two sizes: 5" (perfect for splitting between 2-3 people) and 9" (definitely a party pie). They can be ordered in-person, or phoned in ahead of time to ensure that your preference is in stock. My partner and I wanted to see the options in person, though, before committing. And, with our mouths already watering just perusing the counter, we hand-picked our favorite -- the seasonal Strawberry Rhubarb with Dutch crumble. A baker took it to the back to heat it up, and within a few minutes, she returned with our pie and a dollop of homemade whipped cream. The pie was not overwhelmingly sweet but instead leaned into the natural flavors of fruit as the focal point. The crust was somewhat chewy, but the crumble was a perfect crispness to complement the filling. For only $7, we enjoyed one of the most satisfying pies that I've had in my life. While it's a shame that there isn't as tasty (or inexpensive) a pie shop in Philly, Nomadic Pies nonetheless would warrant the occasional drive to Kennett Square. read more

There's something special about this place. My family and I visited Nomadic Pies the other day for the first time and were super impressed with the quality and friendliness of the owner and staff. We ordered the chorizo, sweet corn and cheddar quiche, as well as the bison chili pot pie while we were there and, man, they were delicious. We liked it so much that we ordered a 9 inch chorizo quiche and a 5 inch raspberry and tangerine pie to go. Yum! This place is so small town, they literally cool the pies in the windowsill. Today was our first visit, we got a 5" apple pie to take home as an afternoon treat. It's truly one of the best pies we've ever had. Super crispy and generous crust, with a sprinkling of crunchy sugar (and maybe a little salt?) on top, and the filling was perfect- not too sweet, great texture on the apples, terrific flavor. It's rare that a place lives up to its reputation, but I finally had the pleasure of eating at Nomadic Pies in Kennett Square and I was blown away. I was greeted in such a warm and welcoming manner which made a miserably rainy day immediately better. We chatted about the menu and I went with a chicken pot pie (a favorite comfort food of mine) and they nailed it. Everything in the pie was fresh with a generous amount chicken. The crust was perfect as were the vegetables. Just phenomenal. Flash forward to today. I came into work and realized that I wouldn't be in town later in the week when they would be open. I emailed the shop, hoping to find out if the Nomadic Pies truck was on the road. I really needed two more chicken pot pies to go. Molly, the owner, didn't email me back. She CALLED and asked if I was in the area because she would meet me so I could get the pies. That is unheard of customer service in this day and age. I'm not only a new fan of Nomadic Pies, but I'm now a fan of Molly's. Just awesome! The food lives up to the hype and I see a lot of their food finding its way into my home for holidays and beyond. These people love what they do and it's pretty intoxicating. And then there are the pies. Holy maroni. The chicken pot pie is far and away the best I've ever had. Checked out this food truck at the Phoenixville Farmer's Market last Saturday. I ordered the spinach/goat cheese quiche. Divine. The guy working the truck was super friendly. Strolling through the Kennett Square Farmer's Market today (open every Fridays 2-6pm, May through September), I spotted a new site. The Nomadic Pie truck. I wondered up and noticed something immediately, almost all of the savory pies for the day had been sold out. Hmmm... now even more curious, and I stepped up and spotted a Cheddar and Bacon Pie remaining on the board. I ordered one up from Molly, but to my dismay, she handed me a purple marker and asked me to cross them off the board for the day. Someone had just beaten me to it. So...the choice became easy, a savory tomato, herb and fresh cheese pie. After getting it home, I cut myself a small slice and tasted it. Two more small slices later, I've got a new favorite spot. Molly also mentioned to me her Chicken and Cilantro pie is a crowd favorite. She uses fresh and local ingredients, and that really came through in the delicacy I sampled. It's always so great to find a gem like this in your neighborhood, a specialty shop. This one specializes in pies. They are true to their name... I first tried one of their savory pies during the mushroom festival, it was a beef, mushroom and gruyere Pie. Delicious! Tender beef, in a full bodied and well seasoned gravy with the slight saltiness of the gruyere cheese all wrapped up in the perfectly flaky crust which was just right in thickness. We checked out the Pie shop today, showing up as they just opened. Their menu also showed a good variety of quiche selection. They offered some frozen packed savory flavored pies I could bring home since the ones they had in shop was still in the oven. Yes, pls! I'll take one of each flavor and pls pack some of those fruit pies as well. Besides the savory pies, I also brought home an apple, pumpkin (which they roasted themselves) & a pear raspberry Pie. These are all the 5" pies. I love the flexibility of being able to eat the pies there and order some frozen savory ones to eat for later since you can only eat so much at the shop. Fruit pies are served fresh from the oven. It's 5 stars for variety, 5 stars for mastering one item, it's 5 stars because they are unique and 5 stars because their pies are just Delicious! (I had a bite of each of those sweet pies and they are great, I can't wait to have those savory ones for dinner) Update: the savory pies did not disappoint. The chocolate lavender pie looks fantastic, a picture-perfect specimen, but the filling is weird---dense and hard, and eating it is like eating a thick chocolate bar with a fork. However, the savory pies are wonderful. Comforting stuff inside a very well made, flaky crust. The fruit pies are very good, too, as is that lemon-sour cream pie, which has a texture like something my mother made from a box c. 1975---jiggly, smooth, and creamy. That's a good thing.
