EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED in this establishment and how it is operated. I really wanted to believe last night was just a one off for this spot, but after reading the reviews, specifically based on things said about the bouncer, the manager and the waitress, it seems to be a part of the normal experience here....
....lastnight me and a 2 friends to stop in to grab a couple drinks and potentially some hookah for them (bc I do not smoke). When we first arrived, there was maybe 3 or 4 other people seated drinking and smoking. The waitress comes over to take our order but we stated we wanted to wait until our friend came out the bathroom before ordering and instead of walking away to come back, she proceeds to take a seat at our table and waits until he comes back from the bathroom to pressure us to order drinks.
Drinks come back and she asks us to order hookah. My 2 friends stated they weren't going to order hookah at that moment and she then proceeds to say that if we arent ordering hookah, we have to get out. We asked where was that policy written, she just kept saying "that's the rules." We asked to speak to a manager, she walks away and then comes back and said the manager said we can stay but if it gets crowded, we would have to leave.
IT ALL GOES DOWN HILL FROM THERE....
The place starts to fill up and we had a couple of nice ladies sit at the table next to us, and then at the table next to them, so now we are engaged in conversation. We had to speak pretty loudly because it of the music, but no biggie, its a lounge on a Sat night....I couldn't have been more wrong....so one of my friends had the game "For the Culture" on his phone and we decided to play it because the convo we were all having was around 90s R&B music and who samg what songs. The bouncer comes over to us (mind you our seats are right by the door) SUPER AGGRESSIVE and was like "YALL BEING TOO LOUD! YALL NEED TO BE QUIET!" so we were all stunned, i have never been told to basically "shut up" in a spot blasting music on a Friday night...and so were other patrons around. So the couple that was seated on the other side of us (they weren't originally a part of the convo) leans over to ask if we were really asked to be quiet and we say yes and we all start laughing. The bouncer then comes back in, throws his coat on the floor and says "I SAID WHAT I SAID! I'M NOT SAYING THAT SHIT AGAIN" now we are reaaaally taken back because at that time NO ONE was even talking. So then the waitress comes over and says that we were being too loud and we were disturbing people....we asked around, no one was disturbed.
So now the waitress has a MAJOR attitude. What I didnt note, that in the midst of us meeting the people seated by us, my friends order hookah. So on the menu, it states you get 3 coals with your order. Towards the end of their second coal, the waitress says we need to close out because we have reached out 1.5hr table limit (another policy not written anywhere nor explained to us upon arrival) so my friend asks for the 3rd coal. She walks off. About 15/20 mins she comes back and tells us to close out. My friend stated they didnt get their 3rd coal and she mentions the 1.5hr limit again. My friend notes the menu says 3 coals, not a time limit and asks to speak to the manager. She storms off and I can hear her say to the manager "they want the 3rd coal eventhough I told them they are at their time limit." Manager comes over and tries to tell them that they already had 3 coals.....which makes 0 sense based on the argument the waitress was trying to make. The manager gives them the THIRD coal but states with an attitude that it was actually their 4th (LOL it really wasnt)
So at this point, everyone around us is super turned off. The young ladies beside us decide to just check out because they are no longer having fun and the mood was killed. So now we are all sharing war stories on this place. The other girls that were a part of the original convo proceed to tell us how this used to be their go to spot, but they stopped going a year ago after a really bad experience but then the owner reached out to make it right so they figured they would give it another shot. The couple next to us told us that they were told that they had to sit across from each other, they couldnt sit next to each other at their table....we all were like WTF! Who cares how people sit at their table.
The manager pops up at our table and aggressively says "DO YOU NEED TO SPEAK TO ME!?" So my friend goes off to speak to her. She comes back to basically say that all 4 tables were being confrontational and thats why the bouncer threw his jacket off. Mind you, we are all sitting down with 0 desire to fight anyone in a hookah spot lol.
Overall this has been one of the worse experiences in DC nightlife i have had. It definitely caused us to not to even want to order extra drinks or more hookah because everyone working there that we interacted with. read more
