So I did a pop up brunch hosted by the Uncaged Chefs so my review is totally based on the experience of the event. I had no doubt that the food would be amazing and It exceeded my expectations. From the crab cake and grits, salmon cake and grits, sweet potato waffle, the chicken, ALLLLLL of It was bomb! Now, the waiting time was horrible. Not on the chefs part but the waiter we had was terrible. If we're paying for unlimited mimosas, It shouldn't take 30min just to bring us another round! We had to constantly request a carafe just so we wouldn't have to bother him. I'm not sure if he put in orders late or what, but It seemed that everyone was just sitting around waiting which isn't good when you're trying to get your business poppin. Once we were acknowledged after 5 minutes or so, I had to repeat what a Cabernet was & the color of the wine. I was finally told that only Merlot is offered...I should have led with red wine. I went to 12-DC on a whim for the Uncaged Chef Pop up brunch/dinner. I had an awful dining experience! I ordered the shrimp and grits. The food was good however, the sausage that came in the dish was cold... as if it was fresh out the refrigerator! The dish comes with 8 shrimp, I only received 6. But the real icing on the cake were the hairs I found at the bottom of my serving dish .... GROSS! I'm not sure if this experience is indicative of 12-DC or the Uncaged chefs but I'm not happy! To add insult to injury, the yelp check in discount was not honored because it was a pop up. Cards and cash are accepted. Hookah is available. Food- The food was seasoned very well and the portion was a pretty large. Drinks- The happy hour is until 9 pm. The prices for the drinks were BOMB, especially considering the normal prices in DC. $4 House Drinks, $3 Beers, $5 Long Island. Venue- This place has 2 floors. The first floor has bar/restaurant setting. 2nd floor is more of a lounge/club setting. It's very cute in here. There was a time this was a nice bar. BUT NOW... I'm not even sure where to start it's so bad. Twice I've gone & was basically ignored. No menu, no greeting, no nothing. Ask for a menu & basically just stood there getting no service. It's the second (& last) time I've had to walk out. We basically were told we couldn't come back because of a simple miscommunication. So, we went up an employee staircase, ok yeah that's wrong..oops, and the right staircase to go up was super dark, so it really looked like no one was supposed to go up there. It was our FIRST time there, if we see a dark staircase vs one that has light and see people going up, which one are you going to go up???? SOOOO, we went up the stairs and the owner or whoever comes up to us and is very disrespectful, talking to us like we're little kids or something...like GIRL. They were upset at us for something that could've been simply avoided if there were signs around saying employee this or employee that. I gave it three stars because of the bartenders other than that it was 1 star experience for me this Sunday we went in for brunch on Sunday, the food was ok, it took a while to come out but it was ok, definitely didn't exceed my expectations(that could've been because of the wait) . Our server wasn't very nice and we didn't get our drinks ( they were on someone else's table ) until i went to the bar. The bartenders were extremely nice and Asia was very helpful. BEWARE!!! BEWARE!! The owner is very shady. Yesterday, while patronizing 12 Lounge on H St. NE, my purse was stolen from the ladies restroom. I immediately notified the owner, and she was very dismissive and rude. She refused to call the police or run the cameras. After the police arrived, my purse was mysteriously found in the employee's storage room, next to the restroom. The only thing was missing was the cash. This place is very unprofessional. The owner of this place is ALWAYS drunk everyday and trying to fight guest and staff. The menu is over priced. They never have the liquor you want. By no means is this a fancy venue which is located on H street however, what it lacks in visual appeal it makes up for in a great environment, really good prices, and quality service. I stopped here on a Tuesday (which apparently is their Taco Tuesday night) for a quick nightcap which turned out to be a great experience. The deals on this night included $2 tacos and $2 tequila including shots which is a hard bargain to beat. In addition to the deal they provide happy hour from 4pm-9pm which is awesome. The happy hour menu is fairly good with options ranging from wings to shrimp sliders. They have a decent sized dining area but at this time most of the guests were at the bar which is a good size not too large where you need multiple bartenders, but enough room to accommodate a decent sized crowd. The bartender was excellent, attentive and knowledgeable about the various drinks even with it being her first day as the happy hour drinks range from $5-$8 with several options from tequila sunrises to blue motorcycles. It had a sitting area that reminiscent of a diner and a elevate bar area and I guess an upstairs entrance to the "club" of the place. My girlfriend, son and I stood at the front door to be seated until a random lady looked over the rail where the bar was and said "are y'all looking to eating in? Just seat where you like" shortly after picking out seats, a waitress or barmaid or whatever she was came to drop water. I know each bar, lounge, or club have a certain staff dress code however you can tell this was night club/lounge attire. Majority of the staff were wearing all black, leggings and Either a sheer top or halter. It wasnt as bad as hooters. It was 5-6 people sitting in the bar area I assumed was staff of the place. After a few minutes the waitress came to take orders. While I was looking over the menu, I noticed that some of the reviews I read on yelp were suggesting things that wasn't even on the menu. As a Chicagoan, I wanted to try wings with Mumbo. My girlfriend order Salmon and my son ordered a buttermilk chicken sandwich. The wings came first. I had seen it on my way home on the streetcar and, being that I am new to the neighborhood, thought I'd come back and give it a try. Y'know, I wandered in for no apparent reason other than the fact that I saw ample seats at the bar, certainly room for me. I did not expect them to serve food but am very glad they did. I learned that from lovely server Lindsay who, after one visit, I profess to call a friend. I ordered the Thai chili salmon and shrimp. It was.....delicious. It saddens me that I have to write this review because I love to support black owned / small businesses, especially when they are in my community. However, after visiting this establishment on four (4) separate occasions, my rating has steadily decreased. PROS: 1. The food is great! I found out about this place through Uber Eats. I was hungry and ordered some delicious lamb chops, spinach, and mashed potatoes from them and was more than satisfied that I ordered another time after that before deciding to support physically for their brunch. The food is the one thing I cannot complain about. I'm not sure who the chef is, but I'd let him cook for me everyday. 2. They are the only place in DC that has brunch until 6pm. The best idea EVER! CONS: 1. Decor: For many this may not be a deal breaker and usually it's not if everything else about the business is great. Where do I start...the theme/decor of the establishment is totally off. I don't know if I'm at a bar, club, restaurant, hookah lounge, or bakery. For many, that may not seem like a deal breaker However, the aesthetic of the establishment is a direct reflection of the professionalism and customer service provided...it's all over the place. There needs to be a clear distinction between the restaurant and everything else. While there is a wall separating the restaurant from the bar/bakery/hookah lounge, there is no soundproofing and you can still see into the other side. So any noise from bar area seeps into the restaurant. Not cool when you're just trying to enjoy your meal. 2. Staff: Lazy and unprofessional. From their attitude to their attire, everything is off. I will not say that I have encountered any staff that were rude, but they do not move with urgency which means they have no desire to assist their customers in a timely manner. The outfits that they wear are not suited for day-time customers. It is more late night attire. Stretch pants, cut off/tight shirts, sheer, spandex bras, etc. Something that is not tasteful for brunch and dinner...maybe the bar late night and the club that they have upstairs. The only positive about the attire is that everyone wears black. I am not sure if those working at the establishment are friends and family of the owners but professionalism is not their thing. They act as if you are bothering them when they are there to do a job and receive a tip for quality service. The overall quality of service is poor. I overheard the bar manager refer to two (2) customers as the "dike girls" as she was trying to explain to another bartender which table to go to. That is absolutely unprofessional especially when your patrons can hear you. Oh, and let me not forget that the bartenders double as the waitresses. They are severely understaffed. Only 1 chef and 3 or 4 bartenders/waitresses. 3. Customer Service: The only way I can put it is that there is none. Yesterday I went to brunch and waited in the restaurant portion for a minute (as their is a separate entrance for the restaurant). No one came to greet and assist myself or the couple that was there before me. Finally I walked over to the bar side assuming service would be faster. Absolutely not! I walk in and sit down and was NEVER greeted. I sat for 30 minutes before being helped and the only reason I was finally assisted was because I asked the bar back who was taking orders and he said the bartender who at that point had still not greeted me. If it were not for the bar back I wouldn't have had a drink. Finally about another 20-30 minutes later after my friend arrived, she asked another bartender if we could order. The bartender gives us the menu and then walks away. Another 10 minutes goes by and my friend had to get the bartender/waitresses attention so we could order. We waited about another 20 minutes for our food and only when my friend said aloud "I'm hungry" did the bartender/waitress proceed to tell us that the chef was swamped because he had two (2) large tables. Well why is there only ONE chef and why are you just explaining this to us? I know you're wondering why we stayed after all of this. Well because we were starving and no other location in the vicinity would be selling food for a while because they switch from brunch to lunch/dinner. Also, the mimosas are watered down and hot. I am sure that I am missing something so there will probably be updates as I remember. Overall, I would not visit this establishment again. Not only do I want great food, I want to also pay for quality service. When every patron in your establishment is complaining, it is a problem. When people from the restaurant have to come to the bar to order a drink because their waitress has not been back to their table in a long time, that's an issue. They, the staff and owners, need training. It has potential but first you need to have professional and mature people working for you. This is probably one of the worst experiences I have ever had in DC. We walked in no where to sit. It was super small the layout was uninspired and not well thought out. It felt like several health code violations were occurring simultaneously. We were finally seated and I felt like I was outside in the blustery cold. The couch was placed 5 seconds from the door. Every time someone came in a gust of wind made the couch feel like I was sitting at bus stop. We sat behind a chalkboard menu with basically everything "sold out." We ordered the chicken sliders and Lobster Mac n Cheese. When our order arrived we were so hungry we just bite in. Unfortunately, the saying that "you cant trust everyones food" goes double for this place! The meat was fried on the inside and frozen and pink on the inside. That's right we were served basically raw fried chicken on a platter. Our confidence in the lobster mac and cheese waned because of the chicken sliders. The mac n cheese was ok but wouldn't you expect lobster mac n cheese to have lobster in it?! Not the case at this place the fried lobster is served on too of a skillet of Make and cheese. After, experiencing the sliders we proceeded with caution when cutting into the fried lobster before eating it. We cut it open and that as well was severely undercooked. At this point I am mortified at even suggesting this restaurant as a option for our dinner. Our table was filled with undercooked food which could potentially make us more sick! My friends and I ordered a couple of items from the happy hour menu and it took 45 - 50 minutes for the food to get to our table. When we finally got the food, the wings were delicious! She made reservations for 15 people, weeks prior to her event. When she stopped by the day before her event, they had no record of her reservation. She re reserved her event for 11 am the following morning. Her guests arrived at 11 am and the employees tell them to wait outside (it's DECEMBER) because they are not open for business, nor are they ready for our group. They finally let them in, late and the table is clearly not set for 15 people, no silverware, napkins, glasses for water. The waitress "B" (that's what she said her name was) was extremely slow with taking our order, bringing us things we requested, her attitude was poor. We were literally the ONLY people in the establishment, it was a Sunday afternoon. I asked for a cup of coffee, it took over 30 minutes to get my coffee, another guest and I asked to SPLIT an order of hash browns (which B described as being stringy but they were actually big chunks of potatoes) she CHARGES US BOTH for 1 order of hash browns, she charged me for avocado that came with my breakfast sandwich to begin with. Our mimosas were watered down and they had to remake a batch. There were so many complaints around the whole table, EVERYONE was unhappy with the whole experience from start to finish. She knew that because we were a large group, she would automatically get gratuity. I would NEVER visit this place again or recommend Kyss Kyss to ANYONE! If the service was better I'd give this a 5 stars. Unfortunately we were ignored, overcharged and under served. Best thing was the food and drinks the #44 was bomb and the chicken & waffles were good. Even the hookah hit well so I was pleased with the things I ordered. I also want to commend the bar manager for taking care of our check after she learned of our experience. Also deontae was a great help as he wasnt even a server but took very good care of us. They need more staff and to be more attentive to guests needs. The fact that we saw the 2 servers slowly walking and taking their time doing nothing really irritated me the most. I hope mgmt really reads these reviews b/c sunday morning was terrible. But I'd like to give it another shot. read more

Had a terrible experience here with a large group hoping to have a quick dinner and drink before going out for the night. Fell unbelievably short on that and consumed almost our entire night. Pros: Most of the food was edible, signature cocktails were good. Cons: Extremely long wait times (All in all, it took almost three hours to get dinner and one round of drinks) and undertrained, too few employees. For the record, our server was very sweet and tried her best to accommodate our party. In my opinion, she was just never trained well and had no help from the rest of the staff. I want to give a higher star rating for her, but no. We found the place just walking around and went inside, but there was no one at the hostess stand. After waiting a few minutes, we decided to go somewhere else, and congregated outside the door to try to find somewhere. After about 10 minutes, a server came out and asked if we'd like to sit down. It was empty inside and they seemed willing to accommodate a large party, so we agreed and went back in. Biiiiiiig mistake. It took 15-20 minutes to get waters and menus, after which we ordered our drinks and dinner. After waiting 25-30 minutes, we got our drinks, and a majority of them had a severe issue (besides the ridiculous wait time.) One in our party ordered Miller Lite with lime, the rest at her table just a regular Miller lite. Her entire table got Miller Lites with LIME JUICE POURED IN IT. So bizarre. My sisters wine was full of fruit flies (we were compensated with a free bottle of wine.) Another one of us asked if they had IPA's, was told no, and to go look at the bar next door (owned/affiliated with the restaurant). They had an IPA displayed, and she asked for it, and the barback told her they didn't have IPA's. She pointed at the bottle she wanted, and he gave it to her. It said IPA very noticeably on the bottle. Again, bizarre. Signature cocktails from Kyss Kyss were liked, but not worth a 30 minute wait. After getting our drinks, the waitress tried to tend to us the best she could, but they seemed very understaffed as she'd disappear for periods of time and come back. Around 40 (minimum) minutes after getting our drinks, we got our food. Most of it was average, but some of us were very disappointed. Crab puffs were described as "very fishy," and may have made the person who ordered it sick, and she only had one bite. Food also came out very staggered, with me getting my Firecracker Salmon (which was okay, but the salmon in the egg roll was dry and almost seemed canned.) about 15 minutes before the others at my table got their dishes (two Cajun pasta dishes which were liked well enough.) After our dinners all came out, our waitress went completely MIA, my guess is that she was needed at the bar or club associated with the restaurant. After upwards for 45 minutes, she came back with our checks. My table paid with cash and had no issues, but the others paid with cards and ended up having to wait ANOTHER 30-40 minutes, and in the end, one of us had her card charged three times. The waitress had no idea how to remedy the situation, so straightening the issue out took an additional 20 minutes. All in all, it took almost three hours to get dinner and one round of drinks. Not at all worth it. On top of everything, the ladies' bathroom was flooded and had no toilet paper. We told the waitress but nothing was done while we were there. (Which was a long time, not to sound like a broken record.) Atmospherically, the restaurant was clean, chicly laid out and nicely decorated. The music, however, was a normal volume when we entered, but disturbingly blaring by the time we left. Love yourself and skip dinner here. read more

Terrible don't come here... the wings are dry and the waffle fries are HARD. They make sure to add gratuity to your bill. The music is awesome but don't waste your money on the food. Brandon was friendly until he received our business. read more

Came here for the first time tonight and I have to say that the food was awesome! I had the rasta pasta, my honey had the slammin salmon and we shared the salmon eggrolls. Everything was delicious. My only thing that stops it from getting five stars is the fact that their service is slow. For it not to be so busy everything took way to long. I would definitely come back read more
