    The Harvest bowl
    John H.

Known as a donut shop, but a lot more on offer than their donuts. Was drawn to the shop by the appearance whilst staying at the emporium. So decided to check out the breakfast and who would have thought that a ship known for donuts would offer a serious fabulous, tasty yet very healthy breakfast. Decided on the Harvest bowl, seriously tasty. Highly recommend

On a breezy Saturday afternoon I decided to check out what all the fuss was about. Nodo have been popping up on my Instagram feed for months now, watching them go from a supplier for local Cafes to opening up their own. There's only one thing that leads to this course of action and that's the popularity of the product. Consider me sold! It was a pretty quiet afternoon for Nodo with only a handful of people sitting in the cafe but that gave me an opportunity to really soak in the decor. Concrete, white walls, light wood, gold accents and huge windows on to the street. What a beautiful space they've created to sit and have a coffee out of their adorable cups and enjoy one of their guilt free treats. Wait, guilt free? Are these not donuts? Yep, I hear you. But I promise you that these dairy free, gluten free little wheels of happiness are just as gentle on your tum as they are on your diet. You'll also be happy to know that the price isn't automatically doubled due to their lack of the possibly nasty stuff. They average about the same price as our other sugary, gluten laden friends around Brisbane. So impressed was I that I ordered one of every flavour for the day and so you have the seal of approval not just from me but all of my siblings as well. Congrats on your new adventure Nodo, you've got a lifetime customer in me.

Cute little shop with a little selection of the now famous nodo donuts. We've had them from various cafes/markets around Brisbane so decided we had better check out the store front. I was a little disappointed that there was only 4 flavours to choose from, but I still came away happy with my choice. We got a snickers inspired one (tasty), a strawberry chocolate one( my favourite by far) and a banana/ breakfast one ( think yummy banana bread with white chocolate glaze). If you can get a nodo fix at your favourite coffee spot then stick to it but it was worth a visit.

I was excited to try these, after seeing them on Instagram for such a long time. At last, the opportunity came & I popped in to try them out. I was a bit surprised at the actual 'doughnut' itself. I knew they were baked, GF, and supposed to be 'less bad' for you than regular deep fried doughnuts, but I wasn't expecting them to be, well, basically ring-shaped muffins dipped in chocolate with some dehydrated fruit for topping. But that is essentially what they are. Very nice muffins, nonetheless.

Nice place, delicious food.... but hard to find a car park, absolutely not convenient for family with pram or people with a wheelchair.

They were showing off a few items on their menu and gorgeous cocktail creations. My favorite was the rum punch. It is refreshing and before you know it, you need a refill. The food was incredible. Wagyu beef sliders with guacamole. Yes! I also loved the croquettes they were serving. For desert, the brought out brownies bites and strawberry tarts. I could have had a whole tray of strawberry tarts. The staff were SO nice!!! Even with so much going on and trying to keep up with the demands, the made sure you had a drink in your hand and you were having a great time. This made a great impression on me. I haven't been to the area so that made it even more appealing to come back. If this is just the preview of what kind of food and drink Chester B&B will serve, I will definitely be making the trek back real soon and bringing my friends!

It seems almost wrong 'updating my previous review' for Chester Street because the difference…read morebetween the same venue post-renovation and reformulation is vast. Seemingly as soon as they store opened under the hands of Damien Griffith, it shut for a little face-lift. While locals have been enjoying the fruits of a pop-up bakery while the renos were underway, the curtains were finally lifted this week in a series of test kitchen dinners and finally the grand re-opening on Friday. I was fortunate enough to attend one of the test kitchens (as a guest of the venue), and being on a table with other food bloggers meant we were able to sample almost 80% of the menu. From bar bites including a wagyu burger (my favourite), braised leek & bacon croquettes, fresh gravlax, creamy hummus with spiced lamb (which could have come with more than one slice of bread given the ample serving of hummus - it easily fed 6 of us), and a duck and mushroom pie (for the price, myself and others on the night agreed it could come with more of a ploughman's plate arrangement. The duck was moist and the side of pear chutney complimented it well). There's mains like the grilled barramundi (not amazing and a little dry in parts) or the lamb (this was the hero dish from everyone at the table). And, if there was still any room left there's a range of desserts by Jocelyn Hancock including my personal favourite the chocolate and almond cake with espresso creme fraiche. There's also a passionfruit tart, deconstructed eton mess and citrus cake. The space is beautifully simple with white subway tiles leaving way for the main attraction; the wood fired oven. Bakery by day, bar by night, this concept as are many born from Damien Griffith, is an ambitious one. But, if there's anyone in Brisbane to make it work it's this guy. It's novel to think that the same spot that can provide you a fresh loaf of ciabatta or sourdough at 7am can be feeding you delicious meals (either constructing a meal from the bar bites and sharing amongst a group or taking advantage of a main to yourself) and cocktails (try the Aperol Peach Spritz for a Summer refresher) at 7pm in the same day. I think this venue's versatility, location just a hop, skip and jump from James Street and combination of accessible fuss-free food with a focus on premium ingredients gives it an edge as the new "hot spot" in the area.

When I first moved to Brisbane, my partner told me this was the BEST bakery he had ever been to…read more And the best in Brisbane. I was skeptical - mainly because it was right in our backyard, and I figured his big-noting was due to not bothering to try the competition. Turns out I was wrong to second-guess his statement. This is actually the best bakery I have ever been to. In my life. Having lived in Melbourne and Brisbane and travelled reasonably extensively. The thing that makes this place so special to me, is its unassuming nature. It's not fancy. The owners haven't spent thousands of dollars making the place look modern and slick and trendy - instead they continue to display their delectable fare in regulation glass shelving with windows. The name cards are handwritten, and the sandwiches are made in the back in clear view of the shop front. This is where I should start my review. The sandwiches. OH THE SANDWICHES! Thick cut bread - white or wholemeal, or grain. Stuffed with all manner of toppings - my favourite being the Ploughmans. This comes teaming with moist roast beef, piled high with delicious fresh salads and lashings of spicy, sweet relish. It's a joy to behold, and I can only ever eat half of one despite my best efforts. The pies and pastries are all here in all manner of flavours, but at this window my favourite is the bacon and cheese. Unlike many pies of the same name, this comes with chunky slightly chewy bacon pieces that are cut into different imprecise sized squares. The cheese is a welcome surprise when it hits, as it too is random in its size and placement throughout the mix. It's always chewy and smooth and mixes with the bacon and delicious beef and gravy mix perfectly. The pastry is golden and fluffy and makes the fresh flaky sound when you crunch into it that I love. The cupcakes are second-to-none. I have yet to get past their simple small buttery vanilla cupcakes with white icing and pastel coloured hearts. I will order four in a white cardboard box as a 'congratulations', 'I'm sorry' or 'just because' gift as I know the recipient will give me one. ;) They are so moist, so fluffy and so soft in the mouth it's like they were made by a cupcake fairy. The icing is perfection - too often you have to fight your way through thick layers of tasteless sugary plates atop your cake, but this is different. The perfect thickness, this icing has a slight crunch to it and it perfectly blends with the creamy buttery cake underneath. The staff are always cheerful if not run-off-their-feet, although I often wonder how they do it with no air conditioning - especially in the humidity and heat of a Brisbane Summer. The prices are a little more than you would pay elsewhere, but 100% deserved. You can purchase a variety of cold drinks including a variety of juice and trendy sodas (my favourite extra treat is the cherry cola). This place doesn't need to advertise at all besides its time-honoured chalk board on the footpath. It has relied on word of mouth, which has clearly spread like wildfire all over the city as this place is almost always PACKED. And for very good reason. My top tip is to grab your savory and dessert items, pick out a beverage (I hear they do great coffee too) and cart your feast to the nearby park. The kids will LOVE it and you will be enveloped by the bliss that only quality, fresh baked goods can bring.
