I never thought I'd find myself writing an ode to a supermarket...
For weeks, I've been returning to my desk at about noon with a little green bag. It's laden with foodstuffs - absolutely full to the brim.
My colleague asks me cheerfully, "what's for lunch?" I'm sure she's waiting for me to reply with something more exciting than "supermarket."
Little does she know though, the delights the Valley IGA holds inside. The salads are tasty, the signs are riddled with greengrocer's apostrophes, they have a wide selection of energy drinks - it's everything I've ever wanted in a food retailer.
I'm always most impressed by the friendliness of the staff though. As a former employee of a supermarket conglomerate, I know for a fact that the shop-folk do not have to be friendly. The staff remember my name and I'm not particularly memorable... or maybe I'm the weird kid that buys a sandwich and a Red Bull every flipping day...
All in all, the IGA puts in a solid performance and saves my wallet from the curses of the Emporium. read more
