I recently was in the Fargo / Moorhead area with a friend to pickup a car at Corwin Motors, after the transaction we asked about a good place to eat. We were told that No Bull was the place to go by our salesperson Blake, who did a fantastic job. When we arrived at the restaurant, it was very clean, well decorated and had a wide variety of seating choices. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the food and the prices on the menu were reasonable. We placed our order and it came out in a very reasonable amount of time. Our order consisted of Ribs, Chicken, Brisket, Mac and Cheese, Cole Slaw and Banana Pudding. Now my buddy and I are not small guys, we both are over 6'2" tall and dare I say would make any offensive lineman coach beg us to play in our younger days. Anyway I digress, in short we both know BBQ. And hands down NO BULL is the best of the best. I have traveled far and wide and before eating at NO BULL, I have found that Kansas City was the best BBQ in the world. Joe's Original Garage, Arthur Bryant's, Jack Stack, Gate's all are top notch restaurants and feature their own unique specialty of BBQ. I highly recommend NO BULL. I started with a rosemary blueberry lemonade, beautiful and refreshing, the bouquet of rosemary with each sip made it so special and enjoyable! 1/4 lb brisket with sweet corn casserole and Cole slaw. The brisket without sauce was seasoned and smoked to perfection, tender and delicious. I did try all 4 of their BBQ sauce offerings with the Dakota and spice being my favorite two. I was greeted warmly and given time to review the menu and ask questions, he provided suggestions when I asked. He also engaged in friendly conversation as I was dining alone. I have found the BBQ captital of the world, and it's not located in Tennessee, Kansas, or Texas. It's in Downtown Fargo, ND. No Bull Smokehouse blew my taste buds away. I ordered the platter. It included sausage, chicken tenders, pulled pork, slaw, baked beans, and a homemade dessert. I subbed my pork for brisket. That was the best decision I've made all year! It was tender, flavorful, with the right amount of fat (yum). To spice up the baked beans ask for hot honey, thank me later. The owner Warren went well out of his way to make sure that I enjoyed my meal. My server was Avery, exceptional customer service! I love the decor and the music just made me wanna dance while I chompped down on my delicious meal. I also loved the pickled onions. Hello, Dowtown Fargo has a really cool vibe to it. There are a bunch of shops and restaurants. I do want to go back if you can imagine that! I think in the summer. Fargo gets a little cold. Anyhow NoBull was very good. Not a KC BBQ place but very good. My ribs had a nice rub and fall off the bone meat on the ribs. Their scalloped corn bake was great. Try all their BBQ sauces also. I ordered the 1 meat 2 sides meal. I picked brisket, beans, and sweet corn casserole. They also gave me a piece of corn bread with honey butter (I think) while waiting. The brisket was SUPER moist! Very good flavor. I used the original bbq sauce. Liked it a lot. The beans were really good, better than I've had in a while. The sweet corn casserole was like crack!!! Stupendous. I don't really know if it's dessert or savory! :) The corn bread piece was good too. Honey butter nice touch. The bartender, Jarod was excellent! The food comes to the bar by way of a dumb waiter... We're in town from AZ for Concordia's Homecoming weekend, as our son is on the football team. We were all hungry for som BBQ, so I started searching online and this place had great reviews. We were seated immediately and Max was our server. He was awesome and answered all of our questions about the menu. The food was so DELICIOUS. This place should not have 4 starts. I order the two meat two sides plate. Bean were cold and hard like they weren't cooked. The potato salad has a spoiled taste. Ambiance was great, place was really cool. Potato salad and coleslaw were on point, really good. Service was also good for my takeout order. Problem came with the ribs. Not a professional barbecue dude, but I have had ribs all over the country for 30 years. These were bad unfortunately because I really wanted them to be good. Dry rub ones were so heavily coated in dry rub that I could have been eating possum and I wouldn't have known the difference. All I could taste was black pepper and smoke. After I scraped all the dry rub off they were ok. Wet ribs were like making out with a dying campfire. The main flavor was smoke. Thing with ribs is balance between spices, smoke, and taste of the meat. A few years later and I've tried food here a few times now. The dinner crowd is normally really small, but the food is underwhelming. We tried the sampler platter and chose a few different types of meat to try as well as the pulled pork totcho's. The meat was all quite dry and lacking flavor that you'd expect from a smokehouse. We stopped in on a Saturday night looking for some good food and instead walked into a night club. It may have been past the traditional dinner time, but we were a little surprised to see that this whole restaurant had turned into a college bar. It was shoulder to should after we're able to get in (showing ID at the door, of course) and we luckily had a booth open that we were able to take. Once we sat down the server was very quickly at our table looking for an order. I was impressed with the speed; however, only drinks were available. We figured as long as we were there we would try one of the shots and then move on down the road to find some food. We went in around 5pm and we were seated right away by the window. This place has a sports bar atmosphere but it wasn't loud inside. The waiter was very nice. We ordered "create your own plate" a la carte. Sticky rib was rich in flavorful bbq sauce and it was finger licking good! There are 6 different BBQ sauces on the table so you can enjoy your combination on the table! My friend ordered beef brisket and gave me a piece, it was very tender! I wish I ordered it too! Great BBQ place. I tried the sampler platter. The meat on the pork ribs literally fell of the bone and the meat melted in my mouth. The brisket has a great bark on the outside, and the meat were also oh so tender. The chicken tenders were so moist while being enveloped by a light batter. The sausages has great casing and were meaty. Make sure you order the corn muffins with creamy honey butter because they are better than any desserts. I especially love the different style BBQ sauces so every bite of meat is like a totally new dish when dipped in different BBQ sauces. Per the name, this place is all barbeque all the time. In my experience, the food can be hit or miss. Once I had the best onion rings maybe of my entire lifetime; next time I ordered them, they were limp and the breading kept falling off. For vegetarian / vegan options, it's only sides. The staff's always been friendly, though, and the outdoor seating is a plus in the summer. (Though in the winter, it's open too, with enough heat lamps to make it bearable.) The real reason to go to NoBull, in my opinion, is for drinks. The selection is good, it's never crowded after work, and during late-night they have a two-for-one happy hour. Living in Europe, good BBQ is often more dream than reality. The dream comes alive at NoBull. Even though the name was a bit apt as they were out of brisket, the epic smoked chicken more than made up for it. Dense and buttery in places, it was memorably tasty and smoky. What takes the prize is the Dakota BBQ sauce. It was as if South Carolina mustard BBQ sauce and Western Carolina tomato-vinegar sauce eloped and escaped to North Dakota through the Witness Protection Program. Wow this stuff is good.
