Really amazing pour-over coffee and wonderful conversation with the owner. Highly recommend this place to anyone in Clayton.

What could be better after a hike on beautiful Yonah Mountain than a visit to nearby Yonah Mountain…read moreVineyards? A lot of things as it turned out. Although the setting is admittedly spectacular, acres of hilly vineyards with views of the mountain behind, and the patio was certainly fancy, the tables each with fire pits in the center providing cheery warmth, the tasting experience itself was sub-par and overpriced. It lacked the authentic feel I've seen in other wineries and seems more of a tourist destination. First thing I noticed is the shockingly high tasting fee of $35 for a flight of 4 2-ounce pours of their choice. No substitutions allowed! Either these are some spectacularly great wines or this is a major rip-off. I passed. But since I was here I decided to have a glass. I got one of their estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon. It was around $16 but since I was here. It was good, but certainly not worth the $48 they charge for a bottle. For the $35 do you get individual attention, descriptions from the bartender about the wines and about their winery? No. You get 4 labeled glasses to take back to your table. Not worth it. Find another place less touristy, more authentic. That shouldn't be hard. There are like 65 wineries in the area!

They had live music and almost every table was taken. We walked up to a young lady who was serving wine in a cart. We told her it was our first time. And she explained that if we wanted by the glass, we can buy from her or go inside and get a tasting or a bottle. We decided to get a tasting first to see what we would like. We were greeted by a woman who gave us some good recommendations. However once she poured the wine on the carafe, we were not given wine glasses to pour them in. As a first timer, we just thought we were supposed to drink from those. It was only until a very nice lady who works there walked by and asked us where our glasses were. We said we were not given any. She went inside and got us two wine glasses with a little bag of oyster crackers each. It was a lovely day! Can't wait to come with my friends and family.

They don't have their food license yet, so just a heads-up--no kitchen service for now. But they do offer prepackaged meats and cheeses you can buy, which is a nice touch if you want something to nibble on while you sip. We opted not to do order snacks. I ordered a wine flight served in cute little glass containers and genuinely enjoyed all of them. I also tried the fall sangria--festive and not overly sweet, with real apple slices and a cinnamon stick. Perfect for the season. I sat outside in the early afternoon and loved the peaceful vibe. Plenty of outdoor seating, and from the quick peek I got inside, the interior looks beautifully done. I'll definitely explore more next time. Overall, it's a charming stop if you're already in the area.

Even though they were closed the day I drove by, I couldn't resist heading up just to take a peek. The 1.5 miles from the paved road is a slow, winding dirt and gravel road with heavy gravel, bumpy pockets, and some steep sections. I drive a VW Jetta (a regular four-door sedan), and it was no easy feat--definitely took a beating. It took me about 20-25 minutes to reach the top at a careful pace. I've seen reviews saying it's manageable in a car, but I'd strongly caution anyone with a low-clearance or smaller vehicle: this road is rougher than it sounds. Once I made it to the gate, I parked and walked around. Wow--what a breathtaking, almost magical spot! The panoramic mountain views are incredible, and the whole setting feels like a hidden gem high up on the ridge. I'd love to come back when they're open for a proper tasting and to enjoy the views with a glass of wine. Next time, though, I'll be sure to bring a vehicle with better ground clearance--something like a small SUV, truck, or 4WD. Totally worth the adventure, but be prepared for the terrain!

Our two queen bedroom had a mini fridge but no microwave. Phone didn't work. Direct TV worked ok but it's not a big screen. Shower is in a somewhat narrow bath with modest pressure but it works and it gets warm. Beds are comfortable enough and the room in general, which could use a face lift, works just fine. Our room at least wasn't all that spacious but deck out back with view is a nice feature. Allowing dogs is also a rare feature which we appreciated (relatively low charge of $25 total). The spa is fine but it's unfortunate that they don't have a hot tub at the pool. The pool doesn't get deeper than 4.5 feet but it's big enough to do laps if it's not crowded. They have small jacuzzi tubs in the single sex locker rooms and steam and sauna rooms. They offer massage and facials at the spa too. Prices looked pretty standard for these services. Restaurant on site was ok but not our favorite (see my Kingwood restaurant review). We actually like the continental breakfast well enough with the not-synthetically seeming normal hotel eggs and the Belgian waffles. I played 15 holes on the golf course and found it to be a pretty decent and interesting enough course at an affordable price. If golf isn't your think they have some on-sight hiking trails that are pretty scenic. The outdoor pool looks like it would be nice too in the summer. Very little at this resort will probably "wow" you but it's a decent value proposition. Mostly you come to Kingwood for the views and the beautiful mountain town. While it didn't bother my wife much, this resort will never get above four stars for me while constantly hearing the traffic on the road just below.
