When I walked in, the staff were super friendly and all smiles. The cashier/barista was such a sweetheart! They have a cheese market, deli, bakery bar, and coffee shop all in one! They sell all kinds of charcuterie items, from salami, cheese, jam, jellies, to coffee, candy, wine, and chocolates. They also sell cutting boards and other little trinkets. I absolutely loved that they sell "charcuterie for one" that has cheese, meats, and olives for a single serving on the go too! We saw that they had a lunch box special for sandwiches that includes a sandwich, cookie, pickle spear, and bag of chips for $12. What a steal!!! We decided to get the Jammin' Pig sandwich which is a panini pressed sandwich with ham, brie cheese, and cherry jalapeño jam. The lunch box was a great size and included Lay's regular potato chips and a chocolate chip cookie! They also sell other cookies and baked goodies (brownies, cakes, etc.) at the bakery bar area. The sandwich was probably the best sandwich I ever had in my life. Holy cow! The sandwich was pressed and grilled perfectly with nice grill marks and the meat and cheese was fresh! The brie and the cherry jalapeño jam melted together so nicely and added a creamy and flavorful element to the sandwich. The ham provided the saltiness that helped cut a little bit of the sweetness from the jam. The jam wasn't spicy at all. It was a beautifully balanced sandwich. My husband thought I was exaggerating (because I'm not picky with anything haha), but as soon as he took a bite, his expression was speechless. He loved the sandwich so much, that we decided to come back the very next day and ordered the same sandwich and tried another one. If you want to take another step, take a bite of the sandwich and then a bite of the pickle for that hint of acidity. It causes a umami effect with all the flavors dancing on your palette! For the lunch box special, you either get a chocolate chip cookie or the white chocolate cranberry one (I believe they alternate cookie flavors based on their inventory), but both cookies were delicious. The texture is not like other cookies as it's more like an oatmeal texture kind of deal. A little bit crumbly, but nonetheless, both flavors were very good and tasty. My husband ordered the Kickin' Horse sandwich the day after and he actually liked it better than the Jammin' Pig. His sandwich consisted of ciabatta bread, roast beef, muenster cheese, horseradish sauce, and onion, panini pressed style. I had a bite of his sandwich and all the flavors worked so well. The horseradish sauce brings out the roast beef flavor and enhances the muenster cheese. We tried some iced latte specials as well. We had the "Hippie Chick" that is a lavender honey flavored latte and the "Sweater Weather" which is a cinnamon and caramel? flavored latte. We absolutely loved the Hippie Chick latte and ordered another one when we came back, but the "Sweater Weather" wasn't our favorite. Respectfully, it tasted like a fall candle. It was good, but not the best we've had. Overall, we will definitely come back when we're in the area. The price was worth it for the amount of food that you get! Trust me when I say to get the sandwiches! You will not be disappointed!!! Now I'm craving their Jammin' Pig sandwich....

Craft beer is $8.99, domestics are $3.89, and they have PBR on draft for $3.50, nice! They also carry a great selection of 500 ml bottle German beer. I had to get an Ayinger Dunkel and followed that up with a PBR, which gave me a nice happy buzz while we shopped around. Their weekly bar menu has a special for each day and the items range between $10-$12, which isn't bad at all. We didn't order any food but the food that was coming out looked great. Staff were friendly and efficient; I would definitely return again if I was ever back in Helen. One thing to note is this bar is not very big so it can fill up quick during festivals and on the weekend, they do have some tables out on the patio and I'm sure the party can expand out to the lot; regardless, Betty's Porch is a great little hangout spot in Helen and I recommend them.

1 STAR THE MOST APPALLING RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD!…read moreAs a local property owner in the Helen area, I am absolutely disgusted by how my friends, my 8-month-old baby, and I were treated at Bodensee Restaurant. After a full day of shopping, my two friends visiting from out of town wanted authentic German food. I suggested Bodensee. We hadn't eaten all day and were looking forward to a wonderful meal. Instead, we experienced the WORST customer service I have ever witnessed! Our server, Victoria, was rude and impatient from the beginning. She rushed us to order before we had even opened our menus, rolled her eyes at our questions, and seemed irritated by our presence. Our food took OVER AN HOUR to arrive. Despite the wait, we remained polite, repeatedly saying, "No problem." We understood it was Oktoberfest and the restaurant was busy. When our meals finally arrived, the food was COLD! My German potatoes were ice-cold, and although my friends' plates were hot, their food was cold. The cheese on one potato hadn't even melted! My friend politely approached management. That's when things became unbelievable. The owner, whom I believe is named Doina, approached our table with an incredibly hostile attitude. When we explained the issue, she snapped, "Do you know how busy we are? It's Oktoberfest!" Every time I attempted to speak, she interrupted me or shook her head. Her aggressive tone frightened my baby so much that I asked her to PLEASE calm down. THEN THE UNTHINKABLE HAPPENED! The owner actually ATE FOOD DIRECTLY OFF MY FRIEND'S PLATE to prove it wasn't cold! My friend had already taken two bites! We were absolutely SHOCKED! Who does that?! Instead of apologizing or offering fresh food, she continued arguing until she began yelling, "GET OUT!" My friend even offered to pay for our unfinished drinks, but we were repeatedly ordered to leave. THEN THINGS ESCALATED EVEN FURTHER! One server took a partially opened miniature bottle of Prosecco and THREW IT INTO MY BABY'S STROLLER, soaking the seat! Another employee shouted profanity at us, including "F*** you, bitch!" and called us vulgar, degrading names. BUT THE MOST DISTURBING PART INVOLVED MY 8-MONTH-OLD SON! While I was gathering my belongings to leave, a woman whom I believe was security GRABBED MY ARM AND PHYSICALLY PULLED ME TOWARD THE EXIT WHILE I WAS HOLDING MY BABY! She pulled me so forcefully that I NEARLY LOST MY BALANCE! I was terrified I might DROP MY SON! My baby was already frightened and screaming. I was simply trying to gather our belongings and leave safely. NO MOTHER HOLDING AN INFANT SHOULD EVER BE PHYSICALLY HANDLED THIS WAY! As if that weren't enough, Victoria and two other employees FOLLOWED US approximately TWO BLOCKS and across a parking lot, continuing to shout insults and derogatory remarks directed at us as Spanish-speaking women. Eventually, TWO POLICE CARS arrived! Restaurant employees apparently claimed we were intoxicated. After speaking with us, the officers did not appear to believe that claim. They spoke with the employees and allowed us to go on our way. Let me be clear: We came to enjoy authentic German food, NOT to be humiliated, verbally abused, physically pulled, or harassed down the street! A simple apology and replacement of the cold food would have resolved everything. Instead, the owner escalated a minor complaint into an outrageous confrontation. I own two other properties in this area and regularly recommend restaurants to my guests. After this experience, BODENSEE IS ONE RESTAURANT I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND! Helen is a beautiful town built on tourism and Southern hospitality. Visitors and locals deserve respect, regardless of how busy an establishment may be. NO CUSTOMER SHOULD EXPERIENCE THIS TREATMENT, AND NO PARENT SHOULD EVER HAVE TO FEAR FOR THEIR BABY'S SAFETY WHILE DINING OUT! My wife tried his and said it was better than the fish platter so had a couple. We went with two friends who shared chicken tenders. They weren't impressed, to me they looked like chicken schnitzel it was so thin. I'm not going to judge quality on chicken though so it may be good? Location and service was the main thing going for it. Our waitress was very nice and attentive, we sat outside and we could watch people float by tubing so people watching was good.
