When the insurance adjuster came to review the claim, Collingwood was there to make sure the claim covered the repairs. When they opened the roof, rafter damage was found. Again Collingwood worked with the insurance company for us. There was also some siding that needed replacing. Larry gave us some suggestions to use existing siding to replace the damaged area and add an accent along the bottom with Versetta Stone. The additional cost was well worth the investment to the curb appeal of our home. Many of our neighbors commented on how nice our house looked.

I met with Collingwood Construction, explained my problem, and asked if they would be willing to come to my home to give me an estimate. I was unsure of the scope of work and was quite upfront about that. I didn't know if I needed a complete lower roof or just a repair. They enthusiastically assured me that no job was too small and would be happy to give me an estimate. After the home show someone called me to set up the appointment. Good start in my book. They then followed up with a letter confirming my appointment, provided information regarding the services they offered, and even provided references. Great. This is where things got a little funky... A few days prior to the appointment I received a call from a woman confirming the appointment and then asked if my husband would be present. Um, what? Yes, she asked if my husband would be present. Had the shoe been on the other foot and a man set up the appointment would they ask if his wife would be present? I doubt it. I informed the woman that my husband would be out of town, I owned the home, and the title and mortgage was only in my name. Why would I need my husband present? She backpedaled a little and said it was helpful to have everyone on the same page. I assured her he trusted me completely to make the decisions and as a real estate broker I know more about homes, structures, and repairs than he did. She said that was fine and that we were all set for our upcoming appointment. The day of the appointment, about an hour and a half prior, I received a call asking if I was going to be home for the estimate. I said "yes". I actually had to rearrange my schedule and turn away an appointment to make sure I had enough time dedicated for the estimate. Then the man on the phone asked me to describe the roof problem again. I, again, relayed the issues we had been having. He mentioned he remembered me from the home show and even remembered I was a real estate broker. He then said it did not sound like a very big job, they were really busy, East Aurora was far away from Getzville (where they are located) and that he was not going to show up for the estimate. He then said goodbye and hung up. I was shocked. I can't imagine treating any potential client like this. What's more is if you didn't want the work you could have cancelled any time within the two weeks prior when we scheduled. I have to wonder if the fact my husband was not present weighed into his decision to not show up. Being in real estate I refer a lot of work to contractors, roofers, etc. I've not had the best feedback from my clients with regards to roofers recently which is why I was at the home show hoping to connect with a couple new ones I could refer. I would NEVER recommend this company for any work, EVER. They were dismissive to me as a woman and completely disrespectful of my time. Avoid this company.

Skylights had inch gaps between flashing and roof. Requests for removing a skylight was agreed upon but never completed. There was an exposed area of the house that was left to the elements that wasn't even addressed. It looks like they did job in 2 hours with no care except how fast they could complete the project. The difficult part is that they won't return any calls. This roof was installed a month ago and I spoke to somebody once briefly and all other requests asking to be called back have been blatantly ignored. There's other places out that there that want business and that do a better job. I'll let the pictures do the talking. If this is the type of roofing job you want, the.n these are the guys to hire. If you have an issue, remove they won't call you back. Stay away folks.

Well they came today and did another job, the flashing around the chimney. great job, I recommend AJT for any roofing jobs especially preventative maintenance, they will be back in the September to replace the cap on top of the chimney. They also introduced me to solar powered attic ventilation which I'm considering.

When 6 weeks rolled around we hadn't heard from them and I had to contact them. Their schedule had been pushed out due to weather and gave us a new date. This had gone on for almost 4 months, which we were more than understanding about due to the rain that had been occurring. However, it was always us contacting them multiple times before we would even get an update. Finally at the end of October, our roof was replaced. Within 6 months we had multiple leaks that have continued on to this day. It took us multiple phone calls to the business, text messages to the guys' cell phone numbers that we had, and even going to their office to get them to come back. Each time, they said they had fixed it and with the next rain came more leaks. Our old roof did not even leak in these areas and never gave us problems like this brand new one. The upstairs of our home that was fully remodeled 4 years ago is now damaged from this faulty roof. The drywall is cracking throughout the entire ceiling and walls. We have not even been able to fully assess the damage and do not know what is between the roof and inside ceilings/walls (i.e. mold). Within the past couple of weeks when we call the office the phone now does not ring and instead is an automated message from Spectrum/Time Warner stating the phone number does not have a voicemail box set up. This experience has been an utter disappointment and an absolute mess that I have no idea how long will take to be resolved.

In the end I chose A Best for the job. What made the difference was that I really liked Tom when he showed up to do the estimate. He was very personable and explained everything to my satisfaction. He definitely instilled confidence in the products they use and the work they do. I also enjoyed hearing about the history of the company and how his family started it. The price was more than fair. We made an appointment for him to come back so we could draw up the contract. The contract was pretty straightforward and the entire process was painless. He told me the work would begin in 3 to 5 weeks and it would take 2 days to complete. A few days before the work began I received a call from the foreman confirming the materials were allowed to be dropped off on the grass, and asking me to make sure the driveway was clear for a dumpster they'd be having dropped off. Sure enough the next day the materials showed up, the next day the dumpster got dropped off early in the morning and a crew showed up and got to work. But lemme tellya, not only did they get to work that day but they also finished it. 12 men and one woman who was the foreman who'd called me a few days prior, showed up and they worked from sun up to sun down and they were impressive. They knew their stuff and every time I looked every single one of them was actively working unless they were on a break. I'd heard a one day roof job might not be the most desirable but this one was only one day and it was great. I'm happy with it and so is my husband. I for sure recommend them.

My 84 year old mother hired ABest to replace her roof several months ago. My mother lives alone in…read morea small house in Kenmore. I live in a different state, so I was helping her arrange everything remotely. We decided to choose ABest over the other companies that provided estimates because of the sales person who came over to give her the estimate. He seemed like a good guy. He gave me a nice pitch over the phone about how we needed to take care of the older generation. All sounded great! I thought she would be in good hands. All the estimates we received were around the same price. My mother's house has a small entrance way in the back that has a slightly pitched roof. On the contract that she signed, it specified that no flat roof sections would be part of the work. I spoke to the sales guy on the phone asking him to include the entrance way roof. He agreed but never included it on the work order. So, that section was never roofed. Also, my mother HAD a small aluminum folding bench that she used to support herself while gardening in her yard. After the workers finished the job, packed and cleaned up, my mother gave them a check, she noticed that her bench was no longer in the yard. She mentioned this to the foreman. He said that her neighbor came over and took it. The workers left after that. My mother and I both spoke to the neighbor, who has been a close family friend for years, said he did not borrow it. My mother called ABest, upset that someone doing work on her house would steal from her. I also spoke to them and I was told that they would replace the bench. This never happened. I spoke to them 4 times over the past 3 months about this issue. I was promised each time that a bench would be dropped off but it still hasn't happened. I called for the final time today and told them what awful people they are to take advantage of an 84 year old women. It's totally possible that one of the workers thought the bench was theirs and just threw it in their truck during clean up. If so, why say her neighbor came over and took it? One more thing, it took them 2 months to pick up the pallet of extra shingles that sat in my mother's driveway. Each time I called about the bench I asked them to get the shingles. Their work maybe fine, we'll soon find out, but I do not recommend hiring them because they cannot be trusted.
