I have eaten at this restaurant many times over the years. The food has usually been pretty good. Servers are usually attentive. The restaurant is usually fairly clean. After my previous visit, I wrote a two-star review (mostly) because I felt the servers whistling throughout the dining room were inconsiderate of the guests, like myself, who were trying to enjoy a meal and conversation with the company at their table. If the patrons at a nearby table were whistling like that, it would be viewed as rude and inconsiderate. If my children were whistling in a restaurant like that I would make them stop so as not to disturb the people around us. I am happy the servers enjoy their job as evidenced by their whistling while they work, however, it is generally socially unacceptable to cause intentional noise disruptions in a public space like that and it clearly annoyed me. Having said all that, there have been new developments since my previous review. The owners of the restaurant posted my review on their Facebook page inviting local commentary. (I really hope they create a menu item called "the whistle-rito" as proposed by one commenter.) They have also created a t-shirt that proudly advertises themselves as the whistling Mexican restaurant (See photo). If I had known that the workers would be whistling throughout the dining room prior to my visit, I would have expected it and not been put off by it. (By the way, I have eaten here before and never noticed this.) I'm changing my review to 4 stars because the food is good and being open and up front about the servers whistling while they work thus making it their unique signature behavior is absolute genius. Only been here a few times over the past 4 years, but our last experience was probably THE last.. after I got my food I saw a couple cockroaches crawling, and one dead under the table beside me so I was not very hungry after that.. The food is always good. Everyone has a favorite Mexican restaurant and this is ours. Their chicken is the best and rice is my favorite.

Absolutely the worst owner of a business I have ever encountered. To be in customer service, he has the worst case of little man's syndrome I've ever had the privilege of speaking with. Well... he spoke, wouldn't let me speak, and then began to insult me because I was frustrated at the way he spoke to my husband on the phone. He needs to learn that when working in customer service, you treat your customers with respect and you take their order. His big issues: 1. My husband tried to order a corn tortilla with hamburger meat, tomatoes & sour cream. He told my husband to "Go up the road for street tacos." 2. My husband tried to order a simple ACP. They have it listed on the menu under a different name with vegetables. My husband tries to tell him to order that and take the vegetables off. He replies, "We don't do ACP." Absolutely disgusting. My husband and I have been patrons at this restaurant for many years. All the times we have been there, we have always had great experiences with the servers, but I've never seen him, the "owner". We spend approximately $60 in there every single time we order or eat there. Even though it's a shit hole of a restaurant, we've always overlooked that. I'm always about supporting small businesses, but no one should give that man another dime. If he treats his customers that way, I can only imagine how he treats his employees. read more

I have now been to NWJ twice. The first time was a bit better than the second, but good none the less. They start you off with chips salsa and bean dip (yum). The cheese dip is like any ole place, good! I got the chicken flautas the first time and the second time I ordered that and was given half beef half chicken. Though it is not what I ordered, it was good nonetheless. They have an awesome margarita special on Saturdays too! The service my family received our first visit was top tier. Everyone was so kind. The second time, I definitely felt like an inconvenience to the lady helping us. It is a small place, and a little loud because of this. Finally! We finally stopped in to try this place. I drive by it all the time and it is always crowded no matter when you go by. We were greeted and seated by a nice lady who may be the owner or co owner, she also rang us up when we left. I was so excited that they bring you a cheese dip to the table as complimentary. I always order that at Mexican places but you dont have to here, it comes with the salsa and chips. It was so good I just didnt care much for the thick chips they had. I like a thinner and lighter chip. They have a huge menu and being use to always getting the same thing at the place I normally go to, I settled upon something totally different, the shrimp burrito. My dish didnt come with any sides so we ordered some beans and rice to try because I really love refried beans and rice at Mexican place. Both of theirs were delicious and did not disappoint! Our food came out in a decent amount of time and I have to say with no hesitation...IT WAS DELICIOUS! One of my fears is ordering something with shrimp at a restaurant and it has those teeny tiny canned shrimp in it but this was big beautiful grilled shrimpies! It was delicious! It is now my new favorite mexican dish and I will be back soon to get it again! read more

Currently sitting here in the restaurant enjoying carnitas. Good flavor and a good portion. My issue is everyone's rice and beans were cold. By the time our waitress returned to the table it was too late for a correction. You are a restaurant, your food should NEVER BE COLD when served.The waitress rarely checked in leaving us wishing that we had the other waitress that was full of energy and attentive. Upon arrival we completely missed the sign that says "wait to be seated" because we were talking. The server at a time an older man shouted to us to wait in a rude manner. We said we apologized for it but he kept going on how the sign was too big to be missed and this and that. The restaurant was empty! For him to make a big deal of it. Boss/Manager "Jose" was super unprofessional by not greeting customers. As soon as I walked in the restaurant he turned away and started working on my pick up order. He didn't even bother to ask what the order was, he just automatically assumed because a server asked if I had a call in order. He said my total my $15.89 not explaining why when he told me on the phone that the total was $11 and some change. I paid and he continued working without saying anything to me. This was an incredible experience! We walked in, we were greeted immediately and told where we could sit. Before we could even fully sit down, our server (I forgot his name, sorry!) brought us 2 orders of chips, salsa and cheesy bean dip (if you don't think you'll like it.. You will lol). Their menu had plenty of options and something for everybody. My wife got the Mexicano fajitas - came out sizzling and enormous portions. Older son (8) got the kids smothered burrito with rice and beans - it was delicious and not a scrap was left. Younger son (5) got the kids quesadilla with rice and fries - full Tortilla folded, taste was great and left him full. I got the tacos jalisco - 3 tacos with steak and chorizo, served with limes and a special salsa. Honestly, some of the best tacos from a restaurant I've ever had! Overall, incredible experience! Guessing it was people coming after the race. $3.25 margaritas Sunday Tacos were great, steak and chorizo combo.
