I can't believe I'm doing a review for deserts, but I can't stress enough how amazing and sweet of an individual Michelle Martinez and her Cake Pops are.
Snacks were the last thing on my mind for my Niece's little league game, let alone the wrath from my sister when she reminded me the day before that I promised I'd provide after game treats. Seriously, I know nothing about little girls, let alone something that would make her look uncool in front of the other tough little ladies. So my coworker suggested No Ordinary Bakery. Apparently, she made this awesome display of Cake Wands for his Daughter's Quinceanera which were both feminin for the Princesses and masculine for the Wizards, and he highly recommended I give her a call.
Mind you, my Sis kept texting me how she was going to disown me as a brother and an Uncle the entire time, so I wasn't the nicest person to Mrs. Martinez initially, (again I'm so sorry) 'especially' considering that she politely informed me how late of notice it was to place a unique order. All of this was during my lunch break, & in that time she was able to calm me down, come to a reasonable price alongside my rush order quote, and assure me that she could get the order completed by the next day. So, come the next day right as I got in to work, I panicked realizing I didn't ask what kind of cake pops she was making! I immediately called, sincerely believing that I was just out of luck & had to get Chili Fries somewhere, (it's my Niece's favorite, at least???) only to learn that the order was almost complete, they were little baseballs, & she made an additional six that were sugar free if I wanted to include them, "just in case". However, her location was too far for me to pick up and then take to the game, but she assured me that she would be able to get to the game to deliver them herself.
So I text my sister, "this Cake Lady may be coming", bolt from work early, hoping that today I would have caught a break with traffic, only to find myself stuck on the five & cursing my brains out at the fender bender that decided the middle of the freeway was the best place to conduct their throughout investigation: a little over an hour sitting in traffic only to see both drivers sharing a laugh would piss anyone off. I get there, late, expecting to see smoke coming from my sister's ears, a confused lady with Cake Pops wandering around different Baseball Diamonds or worse giving them to the wrong team, & my hungry little wide eyed niece, only to come to the most scenic view of happy little children, my sister SMILING (I'm gonna cherish that Jules) and my little Niece shouting at the top of her lungs, "Look Cake Lady, it's my Uncle!"
I can't even... emotions... like, damn.
Here's my little niece running into my arms, saying all this awesome stuff about Mrs. Martinez / Willy Wonka, how she was this super tough derby doll, how she wants to grow up to be as awesome as her, and, like, a ton of thank you's in between. (I don't know, I don't speak squeal). I go over to thank Mrs. Martinez and am really glad to see that all of her supply had been taken by the kids & most of the parents. Now, this is really silly to admit, but right when I was about to thank her for everything, she reveals a Baseball Cake Pop, saying, freaking quote, "Saved you the Home Run Ball".
And you know what? It was actually really delicious.
Maybe it was the buildup to everything. Maybe because everyone's been as stressed out as they have, I know I haven't really had time to spend with my Sister or her Daughter, or maybe it was the day & those freaking people laughing in the middle of the freeway, but for that one moment, I felt special. I felt like everything went great, & on TOP of all of that, I got to eat this saved-just-for-me very last amazing tasting Ball of Cake on a Stick. Cake on a Stick! It was soo good.
I don't care! I'm a grown-ass Man who loves Cake on a Stick!
Five Stars. Like, Five Magical Stars.
Michelle Martinez's, "No Ordinary Bakery" lived up to it's name, exponentially. I don't know how to thank her enough. I even kinda wish in retrospect that I saved her like an Ace Card for Christmas morning or something, just cause I know a surprise like that doesn't really come by often. But I'm thankful that it did.
I sincerely hope that people have just as wonderful of treats & experience with "No Ordinary Bakery" as we did on a random Thursday early evening. I apologize for the amount of cursing if any kids happen to come across this comment, but I really don't know how to convey any better how grateful we all were. My Niece loved her, the Team loved her, (I even think they lost), my sister likes me again, for now, & I found an awesome Baker.
Just, Thank you. read more
