They really like to dump sugar into dishes that should not be sweet. Nothing like sitting in a buffet tray for 5 hours to transform mediocre food into indigestible goo. Egg rolls might have been okay 5 hours earlier when they were made, but after sitting all day they had dried out to a consistency of a doggie rawhide chew toy. The ice cream was okay. For $20 I wish I had spent part of that money driving to Middleton or Waunakee for a better experience. read more

Very disappointed with this restaurant. We were visiting from out of town and thought we would give it a try. The restaurant was about a quarter percent occupied during our visit. First of all they need to remodel a bit, all of the table tops are cracked and missing pieces of the melamine coating, with the raw wood and sand finish exposed. You could not place your silverware directly on the table, most of the tables were like this. I set my phone down and there was sand and dirt on my phone when I picked it up due to the large cracked areas. We arrived when they opened at 11am but there were already people seated, and I would think the food would be Hot since they just opened, but everything was lukewarm, nothing was hot at all, the selection was okay, but i had hoped that they would have some salmon or whitefish, but they had neither. I would never go back, and if we would have known the area better, I would have left and gone elsewhere once I saw the condition of all of the tables. Wish I took a photo of the tables. My advice- go somewhere else, because seeing all of the great reviews leads me to believe that most people in the area do not have high standards for restaurants they eat at. read more

We live in Sauk City and frequent No 1 Kitchen because the cuisine is beyond delicious and the staff is friendly and courteous. Everyone we meet there is happy. Once I was home alone and ill with my asthma. I explained this during a phone call to y'all and within 20 minutes, the owner made a special delivery to our condo. Went with a large group at noon. Place was busy and food on the buffet was plentiful. Choices were reasonable. Good selection of chicken dishes and vegetables. Especially liked the wontons and baked pastries. Extensive dessert selection, something for everyone. Place is clean but there is very limited contact with staff. Friendly service for poorly prepared Chinese food. Lived in China 12 years, and while I don't expect authentic Chinese food in the U.S., what is served here is not even good Chinese American food. My Gongbao Jiding dish was half celery with baby corn and carrots--none of which the dish calls for. The wonton soup was flavorless and the dumplings chewy. Strip mall location featuring large buffet. We ordered from the menu and i had kung pao chicken and my wife had shrimp with cashews. We have Chinese often and this place served a very respectable lunch including egg roll and fried rice. Sauces were delicious with good quality meats and especially generous vegetables which I especially enjoy. Not the best but very good at reasonable prices. We're not buffet fans and did not try it but ordering from the menu was very good. Worth a visit if you're in the area as we were on our way to Minnesota. Nice small town restaurant. read more

I was pleasantly surprised how good our dinner was tonight! The crab Rangoon and pork egg rolls were crispy and not too oily. The vegetable lo mein was loaded with veggies and flavorful. Both main entrees had super fresh veggies and the meat in them was very high quality. The egg drop soup was the perfect consistency. Overall, I was impressed by the seasoning of the food, nothing was too salty. We're relieved there's a place close to home to get solid take out. read more

We had a wonderful dinner while visiting this place for the 1st time. Heard some good things from family and friends about this place and decided to give it a try. I usually would not rate a buffet, but this one was really good! The food was all fresh, tasted great, looked tasty, constantly being brought out of the kitchen by the staff. Some of our favorites were the coconut shrimp, crab ragoon, peanut butter chicken, and so much more. The place was very clean which is another reason why I chose to leave this review. One of the ladies working here was constantly wiping down the tables, the counters, and really paid attention to detail. It was really nice to see that they seemed to care. Not sure how long this place has been here, but we will be back when we have a taste for some well cooked Chinese Food! Try it out for yourself and you will not be disappointed that you went. Prices were $11.50 per adult for the dinner buffet and $6.50 for a child. Not bad at all we thought. read more

We really really wanted this place to be good. The owners are nice people. It started out good, but something happened that left us disappointed. The food started getting sugary. They adjusted all the recipes to maybe what they thought Americans wanted, sugar in everything. Our garlic chicken was sweet, so we stopped ordering that. Eventually the only thing we could find that wasn't sweet was the Mongolian beef. Then they started adding sugar to that. So we went away for a year or so. We gave it another try and tested their lunch buffet. Well, you know how those go, stuff sitting on the steam table, not quite as fresh as ordering from the regular lunch menu. We waited a long time and tried again, and it was better, so we went back a week later and it was sugary again, and horrible. We asked the owner what happened. Different cook on the weekends. We suggested that they supervise the sugar dumped into the food. It is really sad because sometimes it is pretty good, then you go there when the sugar daddy is cooking and it is like some sweet and sour sauce bottle exploded on everything. I took a chinese friend there once who wanted to go to an chinese restaurant and show us what to order. She ordered something she assured us would be special. She was disgusted with what she got, it was like ketchup with sugar on the food. I like the people who run the place. I know they are capable of good cooking and we have had some great meals there, and a lot of sweet sticky things that we could hardly choke down. No consistency, russian roulette. I think if enough people pointed out the problem with over-americanizing (if that is the intent) with all the sugar dumping, they might realize that they could get more business if they stuck with normal chinese cooking instead of assuming from our lard asses that we all must have our sugar fixes. read more

Like some of the other reviews I've read, I think it's really a roll of the dice as to what kind of food you get. One time it's great, and the next time it's terrible. The hot and sour soup is usually pretty good, but at times it's so spicy you can't eat it. Also, sometimes it's full of tofu. One time the chicken chop suey is great, the next time there's no color to it. It looks like a bowl of steamed vegetables with no flavor. Sometimes the beef dishes are good and sometimes they taste like shoe leather. read more
