Great food and great staff. The lunch specials are a great deal, as you get a food amount of food for only $7.95. The rest, however, has gone up in price. I stuck pay the price once in a while because it's worth it. No indoor seating though, only takeout. So I've been very hesitant to try this place out because of the reviews but I'm glad I finally did. When they reopened during this quarantine their parking was full and that alone enticed me to order. I decided to try their dinner platter of shrimp with lobster sauce with vegetable fried rice and shrimp egg roll(.50 extra) as it's one of my fav dishes and is a quick tell for me if a place can cook well. I'd give them an 8.5. Which is really good I'd say. The lobster sauce was good was just missing a lil something but overall I would get it again. The rice was delicious too. I'm very picky about my rice I don't like putting all those sauces on it to make it taste good. I'm so happy I gave them a chance. Don't waste your time or money. Moved back to the area to find many changes has made No 1 into a No 0. Now using long grain rice instead of medium grain rice. It was also undercooked. I gave it to the dog. The fried dumpling had freezer burn and were the size of a quarter. Same with spring roll. They shrunk to half the size. A great disappointment and will never go back. I see a clown but the name ends with S and begins with an 'Eli'. I got their fortune cookie yesterday, and it said "Nothing ventured, nothing gained", which is a very adroit statement with regards to entrepreneurship. I got the shrimp and broccoli, which was quite fresh, an anomaly in a lot of restaurants that serve shrimp. The aesthetics weren't anything to rave about but it being a take out restaurant and being quite critical when it comes to Chinese food, i left quite satisfied. I have been a good customer of this No1 Chinese restaurant for at least 20 years. In the last 6 months I have witnessed a consistent decline in the quality of their food ( especially the Sesame Chicken) . On the multiple occasions where I have recently ordered the lunch special, the Sesame Chicken came with very sparse actual chicken meat which was overcoated in batter and vastly overcooked. I don't know what has happened to this place over the years. It used to be very good. About 2 years ago it had gotten so bad, I vowed not to go back. Today I tried it again. It hasn't gotten any better. The only reason I gave it a second star is that the prices are low. To compensate for keeping the prices low, the portions have gotten smaller. Most of the people that have been giving it good ratings must be using takeout. The restaurant needs to be thoroughly cleaned. The tables and floor are sticky. The people behind the counter are answering the phones, clearing tables and using the cash register while also putting food on the plates without gloves. Nobody in the kitchen or prep area is wearing hair covering to keep hair out of your food. The dish I had was Kung Pao Chicken. It is supposed to be spicy. I asked for extra spicy. It barely had any spice at all. The pork fried rice seemed to be Uncle Ben's with a packet of fried rice seasoning dumped in with a few veggies. I didn't see any pork. There was a sticky bottle of sriracha on the table. The bottle said Huy Fong, the contents were some cheap knock off. So spicing it up myself was out of the question. I understand that this is Plattsburgh, but that is no excuse for a bad restaurant to be over rated. I frequently get takeout from #1 and find the food to be acceptable and well priced. This time, however, I dined in and had a very poor experience. Both the sweet and sour chicken and pork fried rice I was served had an extremely strange and off-putting flavor. I politely told the server that the food was not to my liking and was met with a scowl. When the bill came and the item was not removed, I again politely asked for the dish to be comped and received a very hostile response. Again - I have gotten takeout here plenty of times and the food is usually decent, so I wasn't too bent out of shape about one bad meal, but my interaction with the server was very aggravating. We love this place. The food is good, it's always hot, and the service is friendly. Admittedly, the inside of the place (you can eat-in, which is nice) is a little old looking. Don't let it fool you, though! It's a great spot. If you eatin, you get fried chip things (no clue what they're called) and delicious sweet dipping sauce. Delivery is always pretty quick, nice and hot. Prices are reasonable and lunch prices are EXCELLENT! I l-o-v-e their pork-fried rice, boneless ribs, and sesame chicken. If you have a SUNY Plattsburgh ID, you can get a small discount. They take cash and card, and have something like a $5 minimum, but only charge .25$ if it's under (or something like that). I have been ordering from here for years and today as I go to pay for my food I ordered online I get a different total than what is on my phone. There has been a 75 cent service fee added and my total has now been crossed out and the new one written in pen. I called when I got home and the girl that answered spoke English very proficiently until I asked about the fee then she suddenly didn't understand English and sent me to a manager that spoke worse English than she was pretending and only wanted to take my order. I ordered the lunch special sweet and sour chicken with pork fried rice. The rice tasted as if it had been a few days old. Definitely does not have a fresh rice taste. Over cooked and old . Usually when you order pork fried rice there are a few onions and other vegetables but there was no vegetables and the rice had a few pieces of pork. The chicken was alright but they gave the sweet-and-sour sauce separately which is confusing because The chicken should have been tossed in the sauce. Because I ordered sweet-and-sour chicken not just plain chicken. I will never get the lunch special pork fried rice again. The service is quick and polite, albeit not overly friendly but I rarely care about that. Compared to the rest of the American-Chinese food I have had in Plattsburgh, No. 1 is the only one that is still flavorful and not overly greasy or swimming in oil.
