I wish they would be honest in increasing their prices and retain a sensible meat ratio rather than this policy of effectively bulking up their roast meals with potatoes. When in Mount Wellington, only one place will do: Kings Roast. Don't expect a particularly classy establishment; this place is one of those that feels immediately a bit cheap upon arrival. Think specials written in pen on the menu and not the slightest hint of ambience about the place. However, don't let any of the above put you off. Kings Roast does great roasts. I went in recently and had a roll stuffed with lamb (they definitely don't scrimp on the amount of meat they give you!) and a gorgeous mint sauce. I saw the guy caving the lamb and it was obviously really well cooked and still lovely and pink in the middle. The potatoes that came with it were also fantastic, really crispy and fresh tasty--no mean feat when they're clearly not freshly prepared. In fact, the only thing that let the meal down was the lone kumara I had. This was cold, soggy and just downright disappointing. However, take this out of the equation and you've got yourself a damn good roast.

I usually go for a falafel and hummus and it's so tasty and tastes really fresh. The pitas themselves are really good too, my main beef with Pita Pit is that the bread always seems to fall apart midway through eating but Moi's never do. The service is always great in here and it never seems to be too busy in here, which is always a bonus if you're in a rush on your lunch hour! It's great because you can regularly get deals off websites like dailydo.co.nz that mean you can get a large pita for $4.90--half the price it usually is and making it a contender for cheapest, tastiest lunch in town.

When they first opened, no doubt shock waves reverberated through the community. No club sandwiches? No milky tea? is that an arcade machine? Thankfully, the food at Bay's Kebab has stood the test of time. I like to get the mexican chicken burger, chuck on some extra hot sauce and make sure I pick up an extra roll of toilet paper on the way home. I have to admit they're not as good as my mum's but it definitely did the trick. There's something amazing about a hot roast when you're home sick. My favourite is the Pork Roast purely because of a certain crunchy, fatty, salty goodness - the crackling. It's so, so good, but so, so bad. Oops. Ah well, you only live once right! They're actually not too badly priced too, about $15 for a large meal, which would honestly feed a small family. Or one really hungry Uni student. If you're in need of some extreme comfort food, this is the place to go. Then you should go home, eat it and call your mum.

The best chocolate mousse you can get from a shitty food store. The nicest potatoes. I got a chicken one and there was heaps of food, enough that you could probably only eat half and then save the rest for your lunch the next day, or for a midnight, post-drinking snack. It's reasonable priced, about the same as any roast shop, but I really liked it. I went back there a few times while I was living in dirty old Grey Lynn, and while it's no Westmere Roast, it's certainly delicious.
