Amazing food and great atmosphere Huge shoutout to Roy and Punya for the amazing service. Super friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better. Definitely one of my favorite spots in Hillcrest!

Ring of Chashu but made it spicy and added an egg

I usually order my ramen spicy with extra meat, no questions asked. But the ring of chashu got me this time So I did that, made it spicy, and added an egg. My boyfriend got the regular tonkotsu (#2 I think?) and added an egg too. The broth and overall flavor were on point...rich, comforting, and legit. The chashu was tender and that full ring presentation was worth it. It wasn't as spicy as I personally like, but I added the $2 house sauce and fixed that real quick. Super solid spot. Definitely coming back whenever we're in SD.

Customer service was really good. It was pretty empty as I went on a Monday around 5pm. It was pretty quiet but they played some music in the background. I ordered the Akuma ramen, kimichi, and the chicken karaage. The ramen was phenomenal and well kimchi is kimchi lol. The chicken was pretty decent. Everything was fresh and made to order.

The GGG ramen was genuinely to die for. Rich flavorful broth perfectly cooked noodles and toppings that actually felt intentional and well balanced. You can tell care goes into the food and it absolutely shows in the taste. That said it is a bit overpriced. Two bowls of ramen and a Diet Coke came out to around $60 with an automatic 15 percent gratuity which felt steep for a casual ramen spot. Overall the food itself is excellent and definitely worth trying if you are craving high quality ramen just be prepared for higher prices than expected

Where do I begin? Amazing food, exquisite service! Took my 16-month old daughter here on a lunch date, and our server Susy made us feel right at home. She recommended the smoke bomb, which was excruciatingly delicious and rich with flavor. My taste buds were throbbing for more after every bite! Thank you Susy! You have earned two customers for life.

We went here to eat ramen with colleagues, very tasty and delicious, like the ramen in this branch. Server is nice no complaints.

We used to love coming to Nishiki, but over time we drifted away. Today we decided to give it another try since ramen sounded perfect for the cold weather, but unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. As soon as we walked in, there was a strong smell of urine, which was really unpleasant. The staff saw us but didn't greet or acknowledge us for about five minutes. Even though it seemed a bit busy, there was no sense of urgency or attentiveness. We ordered our usual Nishiki ramen, which used to come out piping hot, but this time it was just warm. By the time we got halfway through the bowl, it was already room temperature. The homemade hot sauce also seemed off. It used to turn the broth a nice reddish color and give it a good kick, but this time it barely changed the color and had almost no spice at all. We also ordered kimchi, but it never came out. After reminding the server, he apologized and removed it from the bill, which I appreciated. When it came time to pay, I asked about using my $5 birthday reward. The server explained that it would prompt for my phone number at checkout, so I followed his instructions. After paying, I asked if it was applied, but he said it would only work for my next visit. I clarified that I was already a rewards member, and he stated there would be a QR code to scan to apply the discount, but by then it was too late since we had already paid. Overall, the service and food quality just weren't what they used to be. It's disappointing because Nishiki used to be one of our favorite ramen spots.

What we ordered | takiyaki | ring of Chau Taste | ramen and takoyaki were solid. Taste was similar to their other chains in San Diego. As a bit disappointed that the takoyaki was just barely warm. Broth could have been a bit warmer too. Service | servers were nice and quick Parking | plaza Notes | no outdoor seating

It was a sprinkly night and we were in downtown. Our daughter was craving ramen. Her favorite spot for ramen in SD is Nishiki Ramen. We usually dine at the Kearny Mesa location. We were greeted right when we walked in and seated within a minute. We ordered our usual for apps: salted edemame, and chicken karaage. Then #2, 6 and 8 with added soft eggs. It hit the spot. However, for me the broth from the Kearny location was much better. But good nonetheless.

I happened to be in the Hillcrest area and had a craving for ramen so I decided on Nishiki Ramen. I got fried gyoza as an appetizer and it did not disappoint. It was fried very nicely and had a nice flavor. As far as my ramen I decided on the Akuma. It was delicious. I wish there was a little more of the pork in the bowl but the flavors came together. I'll definitely be back to try some of their other ramen bowls.

Went to Nishiki Ramen in Hillcrest and had a really good experience. The food was solid and our waitress Isis was super nice and attentive. Would definitely come back.

Located on 1040 University Ave SD CA. It's in the Hillcrest Pub Market; same shopping center as Trader Joe's, Handels, Miniso etc. Limited parking and street parking is available but limited as well. Fast, good service from the staff. I had the Akuma and my cousin had the Smoke Bomb Black with death sauce on the side. Both ramen dishes were tasty. It doesn't have much meat in it so if you're more protein focus, add extra protein to the ramen (it'll cost $3-5 more). It makes the ramen so much better; the broths were flavorful. It came with a lot of noodles. They served beer, soft drinks and sake. Restroom for customer use only. 18% tip automatically applied to the bill.

Are ramen really $24 now? That's doubled from 2 years ago. 😮

I'm not really sure the prices you see on their Yelp are accurate. I just checked their actual website and the prices are around 15-17 for most of their ramen. Hope this helps (:

$$$ is $20 a high price point for base ramen?

No, the base ramen price starts at $13.95.

Are there any alternative noodle options? I couldn't quite find anything online or through pictures

they have varieties of noodles; thin, thick, soft, hard, gluten, vegan and regular noodles.

About a year ago, some friends want to try the food out here and I was pleasantly surprised to see how much it had improved! So imagine my surprise where I came in this evening and was completely floored with how abysmal it has somehow become again with only the last few months. The service has been insultingly, rude; we had a talk with our server and even pass along a compliment, it was shocked with how unkindly they responded. Every single item of the menu has been absolutely terrible; the sushi was a quarter of the size it usually is and tastes terrible, the edamame is cold and feels like it was scraped off the floor, and the karaage chicken is now covered in a glaze that is making our stomachs absolutely sick. And the food is even more expensive than it was before! I absolutely do not want to pay for any of this and it makes me sick to my stomach to have wasted our time here this evening.

That said, the waitress we had was very kind and attentive, and the food was decent, so we decided to give the place another try. After a long day at Legoland, we returned around 6pm and I had called ahead to make a reservation for four. The person on the phone took my name and number, so I assumed we were all set. When we arrived, the restaurant wasn't even full, but no one greeted us for several minutes. Eventually, a waiter came over, and when I mentioned our reservation, he seemed confused and said they don't take reservations for parties under six. I tried to explain that someone had taken my information over the phone, but he interrupted me multiple times and didn't let me finish. He then walked over to another group behind us and asked if they were there first, even though we had arrived before them, which was frustrating. We were eventually told there was space available at the bar seating (bar stools) instead of a table. At that point, we were tired and hungry, so we accepted. Unfortunately, the service didn't improve. The waiter seemed rushed and disorganized--he couldn't remember our order and had to ask us which dish belonged to who when the food came out. As for the food, it was okay but not memorable. My ramen was just average--the pork was dry and the egg was overcooked. Overall, the food is decent, but the service really needs improvement. This particular waiter clearly needs more training, or possibly a different role, as the level of service did not meet basic expectations for a restaurant. Our second visit left a bad impression, especially since it was our last night in San Diego. Sadly, we won't be coming back.

When we visited San Diego back in 2016, we ate at Underbelly twice because it was just that good. Returning this trip felt a little like revisiting an old friend. And I'm happy to report... it was every bit as awesome as we remembered! The best part? The staff affectionately called us "O.G.'s" when they heard we had been longtime fans, which immediately made us feel welcome & set the tone for a fun dining experience. We started with the kimchi because some traditions simply should not be broken. Tangy, punchy, spicy & full of flavor, it was the perfect opening act before the ramen arrived. I opted for the Tonkotsu Ramen: rich tonkotsu broth, soft boiled egg & chashu pork. The broth was deeply savory & comforting, the pork tender & flavorful, that perfectly soft egg tied everything together beautifully. It was exactly what ramen dreams are made of. Hubby went with the Underbelly Ramen, extra spicy: tonkotsu broth, soft boiled egg, chashu belly & adobo pulled pork. The extra spice brought serious heat & he was thrilled with every fiery bite! There is something incredibly satisfying about returning to a restaurant years later & finding that the magic is still there. Underbelly delivered the same bold flavors, cozy ramen comfort & cool Little Italy energy that made us fall in love with it the first time around.
