Fried calamari & crispy rice spicy tuna
Andrea D.

Came here for happy hour/date night because the menu looked pretty good, and we decided to switch it up from our usual sushi spot (Miko). We kicked things off with drinks--I got a margarita, but it was so bitter I couldn't even power through it. My boyfriend got the Tropical Cyclone, which was eh but still better than my drink. We then ordered the pan-fried shrimp gyozas. Except they weren't really pan-fried--just kind of soggy and room temp. We couldn't even pick them up with our chopsticks without them falling apart. The crispy rice tuna.. Just okay. You only get three pieces, and for the price, it's not worth it. The spicy tuna wontons were another miss--bland and didn't care for them. The fried calamari. Mostly breading. Hard pass. The shrimp tempura roll saved the night--it was actually good! The sweet potato roll. Just Eh, not a fan. The service wasn't terrible but not the best. I really wanted to like this place, but between the drinks and the so-so food, I just don't have anything exciting to say.

Kani Salad - did not hold up over night :(

Ordered the Bento Box Online ordering indicates Bento Box A includes fried shumai (doesn't specify what meat), seaweed salad, one choice of three rolls (california, spicy tuna, spicy salmon), tempura or teriyaki staples, and miso soup or salad. Not much detail is given about this. Wife wanted noodles (no option to switch or upgrade :( ) and ginger dressing for the salad. I assumed the ginger came with the salad and I was right. The salad came in a little plastic container similar to what traditionally comes in wonton soup. The seaweed salad was a decent portion. Shumai tasted like shrimp, but I am still unsure. A pile of white rice and chicken teriyaki with two pieces of broccoli and some baby carrots. Not sure if baby carrots are traditional in this type of order, but they were literally like the grocery store baby carrots. The sauce was a little watery and had some type of cabbage under the chicken. It tasted pretty good mixed with the white rice. Portion was good too. All in all, I would order again because $25 is not bad for this quantity of food. The chicken was standard chicken breast, didn't seem to be seasoned or anything, but the sauce makes up for that. The sauce with the shumai is excellent, will be ordering that on the side in the future. * * * UPDATE * * *: Ordered a kani salad that was too much food with the bento box, so I put it in the fridge around 10pm and ate it the next day at 12pm. It was inedible. Perhaps it doesn't refrigerate well. Also had some of the bento box sushi. The sushi rice became hard, which was expected. Everything else about it was fine. 2/5 on the leftovers

As much as I wanted to gate keep this place, I can't anymore lol. It's just way too good. The food was absolutely amazing. Top notch sushi and apps. The service was great, they were very attentive. The ambiance is also great as they have some live music, we went on a weekend so I'm not sure if they have it all the time. They have a great happy hour menu as well. We ordered a bunch of different things. From duck bao buns, Kobe sliders, spicy kani said, rock shrimp, shumai to sushi. Everything was absolutely incredible. This might be my new fav sushi spot on Long Island. The food was super fresh and everything was spot on. I will definitely return to this spot.

Everything tasted so good. Birthday celebration was celebrated with a sparkling candle on a cake I ordered. We all loved our order and agreed that we need to come back.

I frequented this restaurant several years ago when they had sushi and drink specials for Happy Hour. I stopped by here recently and was told that Happy Hour is no more. Patrons dine only at the tables. The sushi and drinks fell off, meaning that they are not as tasty as they were when I dined here every Friday evening ten years ago. My go-to order is the Beauty Alaska Roll, which is made with salmon, crunch, spicy aioli and salmon on top. They made it with just a touch of aioli, which is what I like because too much aioli will give me an upset stomach. The Spicy Kani salad had too much aioli. The lychee martini was made using orange vodka and lychees. I prefer lychee vodka, like the one they used a decade ago. The menu is still creative. The customer service is still the exemplary. I just won't come back here until Happy Hour returns and I can try other drinks and sushi on the menu.

This place is so cute inside! The booths look comfy but we sat in the middle of the dining area facing the sushi bar. The sushi here is fresh and became new favorite place for sushi! We had steak teriyaki and had a bunch of sushi and sashimi rolls. Had lobster, caviar, Dix Hills, pepper tuna, salmon, Boston and sea bass rolls with shrimp tempura app share and my favorite rolls are Dix hills, Pepper tuna rolls and salmon sashimi! Our waitress, Selena was patient and really friendly. We got a blue fin tuna roll on the house which was plated really nice and tasted even better! Will be back!

Chirashi

Visited Nisen recently for a sushi dinner and was very satisfied. Food - 4.5 / 5 I had the chirashi, which is my go-to order for sushi. I was impressed - a good mix of fish, that was fresh and tasty. One of the fish was a bit tough, but the remainder had good texture and plenty of them. Service - 4 / 5 felt that service could have been a bit quicker given the restaurant was not too busy when we visited. Took some time to take our order Ambience - 5 / 5, Nisen has a very nice decor, quite sleek and lots of booth options which are ideal for larger parties. Value - 3.5 / 5 Nisen is expensive compared to other sushi places in the area. While some of that goes to the nice decor, I still think there's too much of a "premium" built in for a $35 chirashi. Overall 4 / 5 good quality sushi if you don't mind paying for it.

What a wonderful experience. The sushi was so fresh and delightful. Came here a bit late at night, but still felt welcomed and at home. Fun and bright energy on a Friday night. Ordered tuna carpaccio, beef negimaki and revived a complimentary bowl of edamame for checking in on Yelp! Woohoo! Entree was a variety of rolls and all super fresh and tasteful. Can't wait to come back.

We arrived during…read moretheir lunch hours, but we were really looking forward to trying some dinner items, so we mentioned this to our server, and she quickly accommodated us. Amber was patient, pleasant, and helpful in providing much-needed details about the menu. I ordered the Open Combo Skewer and he ordered the Combo Hibachi with Chicken & Shrimp, as well as two sides of Hibachi Fried Rice. The food was delicious and hot. The meat and vegetables were well- seasoned not salty. Portion size was very satisfying, definitely enough to enjoy at a later time. We usually don't leave room for dessert but today we made an exception and went all in. The Oolong Tea Cheesecake was delicate, with light flavors and a smooth texture. The Momo Musu and the Mango Mousse Bear were exceptional. We immediately enjoyed the Peach and Mango flavors, the overall presentation, and the fresh fruit and whipped cream that accompanied it. (These two are a must when you visit) I've been eyeing Mihana for a while now, and am so happy we decided to give it a try. It was well worth it. Clean and Serene environment, that would be comfortable for a lunch date or a group gathering. This was really one of the best Japanese food experiences that I've had in some time. I highly recommend this establishment, and we can't wait to return!
