However it has changed quite a bit and is now filled with clutter and extra massage chairs. The receptionist and I had a misunderstanding regarding the appointment time, not sure if I couldn't hear her or she made a mistake, however she adjusted and I really appreciated that they were flexible. I had a male masseuse and he had strong and firm hands. His rhythm was very jerky, and a lot of squishing and squeezing. Positive is that I expressed my concern spots and he spent the most time there and did get into a good rhythm. Sadly though, he didn't manage time well and toward end he felt rushed. Had a horrible horrible abusive situation happen here and have not heard back from management on this after several days of reporting the issue. Have been coming here for 5+ years and have always had a great experience. I was there on Sunday and usually see Lele but this time had a much younger man maybe in his twenties with blonder dyed hair. He probably was not licensed and he groped me and tried to make it seem like it was a legit massage. he was touching my chest and literally massaging the area around my chest to move my breast together, it was extremely inappropriate. I have contacted the authorities and reported it to New York State misconduct enforcement please please women do not go here I haven't been able to get this out of my head and felt frozen at the time. Purchased a Groupon for Massage and Reflexology combo. I'd highly recommend! The first time I went, there was a mishap with the schedule so I had to come back 4 days later. I came on a Monday afternoon at 5:30pm for my first appointment. This place is no frills - the only thing it lacks is privacy. Luckily I was in a "room" by myself - but a man had a session right after me and sat in the room the last 4 minutes of my massage - no biggie. You can hear others getting a massage or talking but everyone was pretty quiet. Before you begin, my masseuse David (A+!) showed me the timer for 1 hour. While your feet soak in a tea-infused bath, you sit on the ottoman and get a really nice shoulder and neck massage which lasts about 10 mins. After the soak, I reclined in a super comfy chair with my upper body totally relaxed. I was given a cold compress for my eyes and a blanket over my body. I then got a wonderful foot, ankle and leg massage. He was very thorough, applied the exact pressure I like and focused on every part of my lower legs. This is the go-to massage place for two of my roommates, so I figured this would absolutely be the best place for me to get my first massage in New York. I think massages can be great self care/preventive care, so I came without having any major pain I needed to work out. I've come here numerous times for hour long massages. The masseuses clearly know what they are doing because they get out knots I didn't even know I had everytime. After the first time I went, I was amazed at how noticeably it improved my flexibility afterward. The massages are both effective and enjoyable. They always check what pressure you want, and will check in shortly after starting to make sure the pressure is still what you want. Yes, it is true they massage the upper part of the glutes as well, but as a person who exercises a lot, it is much appreciated and I have never felt like I was being groped. The prices are fair given how effective they are. The only downside is that the rooms have no actual doors, but rather curtains, so it is not sound proof, but most people are respectful. read more

A couple of days after it opened I walked right in, made an appointment for the following Sunday. Easy-peasy. This place is pretty much a really really nice "chinatown-esq" massage spot. I am no stranger to massages, though acupressure is new to me. Generally I have to actively turn my brain off and make relaxation a priority, but during my hour long full body treatment, waves of relaxation came over me. Lilly was my girl, and she didn't miss a spot! She started with the head, amazing work on the feet, arms, legs, back. This was worth so much more than the introductory rate of $45 dollars. I've been to Nirvana several times over the past 6 months, it started with a groupon for their signature massage which included a foot soak and 60 minute massage. Personally I don't really care for the foot soaking as much as my friend did, I enjoyed the massage and it kept me coming back. The staff is friendly and speaks limited English but they are very good, I like deep tissue massages which can sometimes be painful however if you tell them they will adjust the pressure to your liking. The rooms are small and enclosed with privacy clothes instead of doors, you can hear the other rooms so it's not exactly quiet but a good massage for a good price. I recently returned, the place is under new management and the prices have changes a 60 minute session is $50 and a 90 minute session is $75. Will definitely return! read more

The first thing that caught my eyes when I first stepped into this Spa was the purple scheme. NW gave me a very peaceful feeling when I stepped in. I was greeted by the receptionist and she asked me to fill out a form to help her know what kind of massage will fit me. I'm a very ticklish person so I informed the receptionist not to assign me to a person who's hard-handed. I was assigned to Lisa and my g-d, she was amazing! She definitely knows how to hit the spot. My co-worker recommended me to this place. The location I went to was the on the 2nd Ave. The place was very clean and the front desk lady was very nice and helpful. Amy was my massage therapist. She really know her stuff. Different muscle groups and pressure points. I get massages on a weekly basis and I have to say she is way more skillful than the fancy Spa's where you pay top dollars and all they do is relax you on the surface. I went in with a tight shoulder and she really made it better and the next 2 days the tightness on my shoulder went away. She doesn't speak much English but she does know the important terms to give a good massage. She asked me if I had any pain or muscle group that I want to focus on, which I think that's really all there is to speak of, let her massage do all the talking. I was very pleased with Amy and the costumer service experience I had there. Minus one star for not timing massage correctly. Buzzer went off and he had only done half my body. He offered wha I thought was 15 for minutes for $5, which I accepted. I feel sad writing this, because I've been to Nirvana before and had good experiences, but my last time was not good. I've had lots of massages in the past and know that practices can vary. Unfortunately, this last time, it varied in a bad way. I felt violated. The man who gave me my massage exposed my body in ways that was out of bounds. He spent time massaging parts of my body that are not usually touched (he didn't touch any super sensitive parts, but touched parts that still felt inappropriate). He also used an excessive amount of pressure, at times, that resulted in bruising on my legs. I didn't get the sense that he was a licensed massage therapist and because he didn't speak any English, I wasn't able to communicate with him. Instead of feeling relaxed, I felt anxious and uncomfortable the whole time. I should have ended the service early, but quite honestly I felt confused and paralyzed. I know that there are many other therapists at Nirvana who give very good treatments. All I can say is that I would suggest requesting someone who has received positive reviews. For the price I got and even at regular price, it was an amazing experience all around. In an hour, I got foot reflexology, a face massage, a scalp massage, back realignment, a full body massage that concentrated on my problem areas (neck and shoulders and back) and even a thorough hands, arms and legs massage. It actually felt like the massage lasted longer than it was, which was great because I felt like I enjoyed it longer. I read the reviews here before buying a Living Social deal for a Signature massage here. I think that helped prepare me, because when I filled out the paperwork before the massage, I marked 'soft' pressure instead of medium or hard since people here had commented that they are heavy handed. I thought the massage overall was great, they definitely covered all the areas that you would expect for a fully body massage. My therapist was very sweet, but it is true that she didn't speak much English. Luckily I didn't have any specific requests, but if you did I can see how that might be an issue. She did ask me a couple of times if the pressure level was okay though, which I appreciated. The ambience in the rooms is good in terms of lighting, but I can confirm about the sheer curtain and about the noise. You can hear everything that is going on in the hallway and in the adjacent treatment rooms. Once I even heard a car honk all the way from the street. The noise didn't really bother me though, and they do play calming music which helps cover it up. Overall, while my experience was not equivalent to going a fancy spa, this place was a very good value. I think if you know what to expect before going in then it helps a lot. read more

First off, I don't like to put down small businesses. I actually went here to support small businesses, when there was a Massage Envy right down the street from here. However, what I experienced is a safety/health issue which is why I'm Yelping. When you walk in, the atmosphere is clean and sleek, which is slightly misleading to what you now expect when you go back for your massage. I asked the woman at the front desk a few simple questions that she could barely answer, which I thought wasn't that concerning since she could have been just a secretary helping do paper work. However, before heading back to the massage room I noticed her picture on the business license which means, to me, she should have been more helpful. I was expecting to fill out some paper work but was swept into a back area where I couldn't see more than a foot in front of me and taken into a small space divided by sheets. So heres the issue: A woman that barely spoke english began working on me despite knowing NOTHING about me. She didn't know whether I walked in because I had issues. Whether I had pain somewhere she should avoid. Nothing. When I told her sensitive areas, she gave a "yeah", meaning she either didn't understand me or didn't care. When I told her it hurt--which 98% of it did-- she again replied, 'Yeah'. To wrap it up: it was the most painful, unenjoyable hour I have ever had and a pure waste of time and money. read more

I purchased a Groupon for Reflexology and Massage combo. While I sat in waiting area for about 5 mins I was offered water. Then I was taken in to start my treatment. The treatment area was a spacious room with walls that didn't go all the way up but there was a curtain that gave you privacy and the space had two big comfy chairs that had ottomans. The masseuse had me sit on the ottoman while I soaked my feet in warm water. Then he started to massage my back while sitting up right which felt strange. I would have preferred to sit on the massage chair with the place you rest your face on. This is the only reason I didn't give this place five stars. After the back massage he dried my feet off and I laid in the comfy chair and he started the reflexology massage for 50 mins. It was so good I caught my falling to sleep. My feet was so relaxed afterwards felt like I was walking on clouds. I will be back. I recommended anyone with foot issues to go try out the reflexology massage. read more

This is a great no-frills massage place. There's never a wait, the therapists are all good and it's reasonably priced. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is because of the noise. The "rooms" are wall partitions, which is fine but that means sound travels easily. You can hear someone talking to their therapist in the next "room" as well as people chatting in the reception area. I've even heard the gentle snoring of people sleeping. It would be great to use ear plugs to block out any additional noise. read more

I visited with a groupon for an hour massage. When I got there receptionist said my name wasn't down for an appointment (although I called week before). It was no problem though and I was seen quickly. I was asked how I liked the pressure before I went into the room. Only reason I'm giving four stars is for the lack of direction I got when ushered into the room. Apparently you lay face up with your feet in a bucket of water on the floor and a blanket over you. I've never experienced this as the start of a massage so I was surprised when my masseuse came in saying "no no." Overall great massage although she spent more time on my feet than my back. After telling me to get undressed, she came in and was shocked I had my underwear on. She literally took them off of me and said "don't worry" lol. Now the massage was great.
