I was reluctant to get solar as I've heard so much negativity from others. But I did my own homework and had them come out. Spoke to Navin multiple times and stayed in constant contact via email. You have choices in financing; low interest over 25 years, but you'll pay points to get it. If you can pay it off sooner, get the higher interest; if you can afford to buy it outright, even better. I can not say enough good things about this company. I had a bad install from one of the biggest companies out there with the best equipment installed. There was problems from the beging. After 7 months of going back and forth, Nippon Energy came out as a 3rd party to review everything and found not only terrible workmanship on the install I have, but also made a call to the inverter manufacture to make sure the product was installed correctly or not. I am very pleased with Nippon Energy for my solar needs. Although the process had a few issues with the permit process, the utility company, and the inspector, none of the issues were due to the solar company. Navin is great! He responds promptly, even during the evening hours. Our rooftop solar was installed in May of 2016, but being skeptical, after reading some of the horror stories about what is called "true-up" time with the Electric Company, I wanted to wait a full year to see what the full year's bill would be (called the true-up bill). I was quite pleased to pay $73.65 for a full year with SDG&E, which is basically the minimum charge less the California climate credit. I produced 96.5% of my electricity usage for the year, which is more than acceptable given all the rain and cloudy days that we experienced during the 2016-2017 rain season. I actually increased my electricity consumption by about 10% from the previous year, and still paid the SDG&E minimum. I have a 4.76 KW system (4.00 KW AC) of American made panels, using American made micro-inverters with approximately half the panels facing E/SE, and the other half W/NW. Production can be monitored via a mobile app, and is normally within 30 minutes of real-time. As mentioned above, Navin is great to work with, and he is very knowledgeable about the product, and the variety of panels that are available for use. He works hard to avoid possible surprise charges that may come from some of the larger solar companies. Also, Nippon Energy's pricing is very competitive, and they move quickly through the engineering and permit process. The installation process was prompt and clean. It's been over a year, and Navin still responds to general questions, usually same day, even during the evening. Solar is a large investment, and so it is important to ask questions. Ask about the type of solar panels that will be installed. Ask about the power inverters, necessary to convert the solar DC power to usable AC electricity. Ask about battery back-up. Ask about leasing versus owning solar panels. Ask about financing. Ask about how the tax credit will help you. Ask how long the process takes. Ask about how solar works with your local utility company. The electricity rate structure tariffs are undergoing quite a change, and so it's important to ask for recommendations to ensure that you are maximizing your investment. In short, going solar is a decision not to be taken lightly, but so far I am happy with my decision. Yet, do your homework, and obtain at least 3-4 estimates. We had solar panels installed by the staff of Nippon Energy in March, and it has been smooth so far. We do however have to wait for the reflected (post-installation) changes in our bill to come, as with all installations. So we will see how well it works for us when that comes. Before we hired Nippon Energy, we researched solar panel providers in the valley over a span of a couple of years. After talking with neighbors (who have solar panels) reading about services provided by solar panel providers, and then meeting with sales representatives, we were still not sure. The information they provided appeared inconsistent with the product description. Then we learned about Nippon Energy through a relative in SoCal, and we proceeded to talk with their director. Here is a little bit about our experience: *The director was very prompt to answer any questions we had pre- installation, during-installation and post-installation. We just got the go ahead from SoCal Edison last week on our 52 panel ground mount installation. Nippon was one of the few companies that would do a ground mount that was complicated with steep canyon terrain and retaining walls. The installation went smoothly, and there were no issues different than what we expected. It is great to see the meter going backwards. Let me paint you a picture: family of (5) with the rain that we've had in February and my roof is leaking into my house - significantly. I called many vendors, and on Saturday night at 8 PM, Shawn responded to my call. In the beginning of 2015, we decided to go solar. I went on to the CA Solar Initiative website and accidentally EMAILED 130+ vendors (from all over CA). From all the replies, we picked out about 20 companies to research on. We ended up choosing Nippon Energy. We chose Nippon Energy base on a few factors: 1.) Their design for our home was most fitting base on our usage/home orientation/ area. 2) The brand/products that proposed to use was more reliable than others. 3) The price was very reasonable and competitive.
