    Marriott hotel in the distance
    Rachel T.

Since we stayed at the Marriott we saw a lighthouse in the distance and thought it would be cool to drive over and take a look. It was super close to the hotel, but to drive to the lighthouse you need to off-road. After passing the first set of gates, it's an off-road for about half a mile or a little more than that to the lighthouse. But not too far from the first gate you'll meet a second gate. Both of the gates are open during the day, but the second gate was closed at night time. It's pretty bumpy so I recommend having a durable car and going during the daytime would be best since there's a bunch of dips that you might not see at night. During the day you might be able to walk but it is a little far and there's no shade cover. At night it's really dark and was a bit eerie, so we ended up turning around. Unfortunately, you can't go inside the lighthouse, but you can walk around it. There's a few rocks where you can get a better view, but be careful and wander at your own risk. It's a really beautiful view of the ocean and the waves. Also it's free!

Picked up some sushi and went straight here after leaving the airport. Sat on the rocks, ate dinner, and got to watch some people catch fish and the airplanes fly in. Very cool, mellow spot

Very nice view from this light house. It is somewhat part to access. Nonetheless you will have the ocean as a backdrop.

I want to eat my lunch with a great chill view and this landmark came in to my Google map search. This is only a 10mins. drive from Lihue airport and could be a great mini stop for taking photos. We came here in a great sunny day and the sky is so clear. Perfect! This quaint small lighthouse offers a beautiful views of the ocean. Although you cannot go inside the lighthouse just be on the bottom outside on it and eat your lunch while you have this 180 degrees view is enough for me to have appreciation on this landmark. You got to see the Nawiliwili Bay from afar and the horizon is just perfectly aligned. Not a lot of people come here or maybe we just got lucky coz we are the only people in the area which I enjoyed so much - no photo bombers at all! Mahalo for reading and happy juandering fellow Yeeps.

Rugged oven views with beautiful crashing waves.

Great views! Be careful, the road can be a bit challenging on a mid size car. Secluded place to take in nature. Unfortunately some spots on the island are "overrun" with homeless and run down. This one is still very clean and great to visit.

Unfortunately you can't go in it to see what it's like inside. Earlier today we went to the Kilauea Lighthouse, and it does give tours on designated days. This lighthouse is also more difficult to find - it's located next to a fenced, restricted area of the Lihue Airport, back behind the golf course at a Marriott Resort. We walked 1.3 miles round trip to see the lighthouse. The road was uneven, rocky, and bordered with lush greenery and lots of small white butterflies. We could have driven down to it, but the road looked more like a golf cart path than a road for cars. The lighthouse is very pretty as you approach it. The scenery around and below is also magnificent. Then I walked behind the lighthouse, and saw the graffiti. Why do some people think it's okay to deface buildings?? It was a beautiful day to take a walk and see the Ninini Lighthouse. 3/7/23

Landmark in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii... When my penpal asked me where I wanted to go during my brief layover, I answered, "Ninini Lighthouse - because it's ten minutes from the airport!" I think this was an unusual request because it's not a popular place. It seems like some vagrants used to hang out here... And the road to the lighthouse is unpaved and has some potholes. Some people wrote that they jogged here. I can't imagine doing that! Other reviews state that it was muddy - they must have come during Hawaiian winter when it rains more. However, in my case, it was a sunny September day. My penpal tried to distract me by taking me to Kilauea Lighthouse which is 40 minutes from the airport. We had lunch and the question came up again: where do you want to go? Same answer from me: Ninini Lighthouse. I couldn't think of anything else. We didn't have time to do things we did in the past such as kayaking nor cruising on the Wailua River to Fern Grotto... So, Ninini Lighthouse it was! Haha! Good thing we were in a truck (not a luxury vehicle)! It turned out to be great! The view of the coastline, the fresh, cool breeze, the graffiti on the side of the lighthouse, the makeshift memorial in the bushes for someone who passed away, the airplane flying overhead... LOL! Such a unique memory! By the way... The lighthouse (built in 1932) is still functioning to this day!

Remote and hard to get to, but close to LIH airport so worth the stop. GPS navigation worked great to get us there. Road a little rough so good that we had a small SUV rental. Lots of history from time when mariners were dependent on light houses. There was a little over grown memorial under a tree off the rough parking area.

Nice lighthouse! Very pretty panoramic views of the ocean and mountains. Also very cool seeing incoming planes come in and how low they get. However, this place has a ton of homeless around. Trash everywhere, dogs on the loose, drugs, etc. Accessible by foot or by car. Beware though, it's really better for SUV/trucks/jeeps. Our little sedan rental has a hard time on the unpaved dirt road which included a few potholes that scrapped the bottom of the car. A few locals we asked about this place say it's really gone downhill in the last few years and they all stay away themselves.

OFF ROAD!!! The road to the lighthouse is a one way off road pass the golf course. If you're a tourist in a compact car rental, park by the golf course and hike .5 miles to the lighthouse. The view is beautiful and worth the trip. An important thing is This is a spot where the locals go to go fishing, so tourist be courteous.

    Watch out for potholes.

I love seeing old lighthouses. Being a lighthouse keeper would have been an awesome job if you like being close to nature. We got real close to nature on the way to Ninini Point Lighthouse. After the road ended our poor suv felt like the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland. The mud and huge potholes made for an authentic experience as this was likely how it was back in 1906 when they built the lighthouse out of wood and concrete. Nawiliwili Bay is to the north and the sea is to the west. Wind was wild and whipped sea spray on us as we neared where the sea met the land. Scent of salt was on the air. Back in California there tended to be an orange gray haze in the distance. Here I was amazed by how clean and crisp everything looked. We were the only ones there enjoying the awesome view and the moments of solitude. There were tide pools in the rocks for the kids to explore. Sadly the lighthouse isn't open to visitors and someone had sprayed painted parts of it. Still there was a stark beauty to the weathered monolith. Steel and salt water merged into rust. Long abandoned windows still let light into abandoned structure. This is the place to be alone with nature.

Be prepared for a bumpy dirt road for the last 1/2 mile. Cruise ships visible. Airlines overhead. Good view from the point. A nice stop. Secluded.

What a hidden little surprise this was! I was looking on my handy dandy Yelp app trying to figure out what to do before returning to the airport. Ninini Lighthouse is located right by the airport. I just followed my google maps directions from my phone. I was hesitant driving here though, at some points I wasn't sure if I was allowed to keep driving as far in as I went. But just trust your maps and keep going till you reach the end.

It took me a while to find it which is great because that means not too many other tourist know about this. So the day we fly to Kauai was a holiday. As soon as we got the car, we headed straight to Waialua Falls. Once done there, we made our way to this swinging bridge, less than 10-mins away. It's in a small neighborhood. And parking was nonexistent. So I pulled into a business' parking lot and told my family to go look around and I'd stay in the car and wait for someone to tell me to move. But I got out of the car for a bit just to look around real quick when I noticed the sign on the business said they were closed for the holiday. Then I realized, that day WAS a holiday. And so I was able to enjoy the grounds with my family. And, no other tourist were around. Just a homeowner working on his surfboard. The surroundings are beautiful. Super quiet. Bridge was a bit shaky. And then I walked up the stairs at the end of the bridge where it took us to the church where there's plenty of parking. So if you plan on visiting, park at the Immaculate Conception Church. Yes, highly recommend.

Love the swaying motion of the bridge.
