However, for my personal experience after visiting here, I will be coming back again. It is a great shop that has a lot of exotic and tropical fruits you don't usually find in typical grocery stores. I came here and got mangosteen, golden dates and prepared jackfruit. The mangosteen ($10/lb) was delicious, probably the best mangosteen I have ever had in the bay area so far. We also got some golden dates for $18. There was a lot of it, but the dates were delicious, they weren't fully ripe yet so you can eat it as is and it is crunchy or wait till it ripens fully and is softer. The jackfruit prepared was also good, it was sweet and fresh. I also saw some other fruits there such as mangoes, durian, and even saw jabuticaba for the first time. There is a fruit stand on steroids carrying local fresh produce, jelly jams, snacks, dried fruit, etc. There's a wine & deli shop; wine tasting is offered while the deli makes custom fresh made sandwiches. The sweet shop is dangerous... shop filled with chocolates, candy, popcorn, and ice cream. Yum! The sweet shop is where you buy the tickets to ride the little choo choo train and merry go round. Even adults can ride without the kids. Also if all of that wasn't enough, they have a RV park and hotel. Watch out for the free range peacocks. They walk about thinking they own the place, stopping traffic in the parking lot. Momma peacock had a heck of a time leading her distracted youngins. Ironic, because you'll probably experience the same thing with your youngins at this place. Lots to distract them. Anyways, I stopped to use the restroom but then stayed longer to explore. The restrooms were quite modern giving off a modern industrial vibe. The room and stalls are built in a circular pattern with the sinks in the middle. Some of the toilet stalls had their own sink as well. Those were located near the front. I used one of those and then it appeared to others using the main communal sink that I walked out without washing. Let me tell you, I got some looks.

The lower sugar content in the dark chocolate almonds was definitely noticeable, but they were still good. And the mint candies were unique and enjoyable. The different buildings offer some of the same items. For instance, chocolates can be found in the main store, in the wine and deli shop, and in Casa de Sweets which serves ice cream and coffee delights too. And both the main store and restaurant have pies for sale. I appreciate the variety of offerings on site, as well as the scenic atmosphere for doing some shopping, eating, and spending quality time with loved ones.

Hashi still feels similar to the old Marina Market that occupied this location. For a store presenting itself as Japanese, there are so many basic Japanese grocery items I expect to find but often don't. The selection doesn't come close to a market like Mitsuwa. Even things like natto, certain Japanese sweets and snacks, and Japanese-style seafood items such as salmon roe are either missing or much more limited than I would expect. I expected the selection to become more distinctly Japanese after the change from Marina to Hashi, but the transition is taking an awfully long time! At this point, it often feels less like a Japanese supermarket and more like the previous Asian/Filipino market with some Japanese products added. Some of the prices are much higher too. At this point, I am losing hope. There are positives. I really like the produce section, especially the selection of leafy green vegetables and many of the fruits. The store has also been cleaned up considerably and is much better organized than it used to be, which I appreciate. But if Hashi wants to position itself as a Japanese market, I wish it would commit much more fully to actually stocking the range of Japanese groceries people go to a Japanese supermarket to find. Right now, if I specifically need Japanese ingredients or specialty foods, I'm still much more likely to make the trip to Mitsuwa or other Japanese markets.
