Thought I would make another visit to see if the store's layout and cleanliness had improved hoping…read moremy last visit was an aberration. Nope, unfortunately, the state of the store is as it was. Simply put, this particular store once took pride in organizing and displaying merchandise, meaning those who ran this store cared as much about second-hand items and those that donated and bought as much as if the items were new. Everything had its place, set upon shelves and racks with care. That is no longer true. Merchandise looks as if it were just tossed on a shelf, to land as it might. Racks of clothes are not even attempted to be adequately sorted by sizes or straightened. Honestly, it appears that all this store's workers despise those who both donate and shop thrift stores. I will no longer be either donating or shopping here and, believe me, from past posts you can see, I have shopped here plenty and found great finds in years past Shame on St Vincent De Paul for allowing this store to be in the shape it is.

This store is supposed to help people struggling! All I see is a very greedy board of directors. I used to shop here once a week and got all my clothes here because they were so nice. Now it is so overwhelming shopping here. I am so sad I lost such a nice store to the greedy!!

The store salesperson helped us make just the right choice for our special occasion and it arrived promptly before our big day. There were many options to choose from. Thank you again for the great service and taking good care of us. You can put your trust in this great store. Great selection, great service and hours to fit your needs. The also offer a personal touch to designing or servicing your heirlooms and buy estate jewelry and collections. I will be back again!

We were told the repair would be around $630, as it needed a half shank. We tried to ask about other options, even a new setting. Just to see what was available. They would not even show us any settings, saying it would be around $2k. They suggested coming back in 3 weeks because of the pinched skin. They said my ring size would be different than it has been for 38 years, even though my ring still fit perfectly. Apparently they assumed we were bums and had no money. We were literally given the brush off! My husband recently purchased a pair of earrings for me there and has made several purchases over the years. We went to another local jeweler, we were greeted with a smile, they gave us all our options, showed us new settings. Examined the broken ring closely and said it not only needed a shank but the prongs were worn. We got a quote of almost half of your quote, to do a more extensive repair. We will no longer ever purchase from James Douglas Jewelers again.

Plato's Closet - Brand new shoes. Never worn

Going forward, I'll give my brand new (tagged) or gently worn to a homeless shelter, which is what I should've done in the first place. The website is vague on the process of selling items so naturally when I walked into the store, I had a few questions. The associate who assisted me wasn't helpful or friendly. I dropped off a brand new pair of running Nikes along with the receipt in the box as well as a pair of never worn new Cole Haan leather loafers, and a pair of new shorts that I purchased from Old Navy... all three items had tags on them. I was handed a receipt and told to come back when I received a text message from the store with NO EXPLANATION of how items were determined in selling price. At this point in the transaction, I became frustrated and turned around and left the store. About 45 minutes later I received a text message to return to the store. I was told that my three items were worth $12 and that the Cole Haan shoes will not be accepted because they are not a current trend. WHAT?! Leather loafers aren't on trend? Anyone looking to sell their new or gently used items would fair better selling them on Poshmark. You live and you learn.
